I think I'll just stay clear of the multiplayer, and only buy the game for the singleplayer.
It beats System Shock 2 by far in the most important respect to me: Availability. It's bloody impossible to acquire SS2. Oh, and the demo constantly crashes for me. More than constantly.

For multiplayer games with respawn I like not being able to heal at all (like Red Orchestra). Otherwise, I vastly prefer health packs. In Xen in Half-Life on hard I spend too much time sitting in a healing pool.
I have used GFWL, and it didn't bother me much. And with a short game like Bioshock 2 presumably is, losing saves isn't going to be a massive problem. Still, it will be an annoyance. I'm still undecided on whether or not to get it.
