I am looking forward to games with the focus, quality, and excitement of Halflife2; yet with branching path story lines like KOTOR. Most importantly, the ability for people (friends) to cooperatively play seperate roles in this story, criss-cross paths and effect each others individual...
"be good if the revised the grenade also. It's useless as it is"
The grenade is very powerful if you learn to pick it up and throw with Gravity Gun. It's the first thing I go for, when i spawn....far from useless.
Ok, DO NOT release a map, that hasn't gone through the full VIS process!
VIS calculates 'visibility' in the level; deciding at each point, what polygons the engine has to draw, and which it can exclude. Fast or no VIS means that the engine will be drawing MUCH more than it has to...
Each medium shines in it's own light, yes. You can't however, rule out the marriage of different mediums, and the potential success of such evolution. There are exceptions to every scenario you have mentioned, and I think that the more we try to stretch/blur the boundaries of literature, film...
I thought the ending was brilliant. If you really pay attention in the game, you can peice together what is going on. Much more fun than having everything spoon-fed to you. It's always more intriguing to let the imagination fill in the gaps... at least for me.
The truth is, with any massive project like this, you shoot for the moon, and end up somewhere in the upper atmosphere. This is the nature, and process, of game development. What Valve gave us wasn't rushed. Everything that ended up on the cutting room floor probably deserved to be there, and...
Don't worry. Out of those 2000 future mods listed for hl2, we'll be lucky to see 10 really solid, professional mods that are actually interesting. This stuff takes much, much dedication and hard work; most of those mods listed won't even make it to alpha.
because dodge and burn doesn't give you the correct tonal variation of your colors....it kills the vibrance of your colors. Dodge and burn are spotted a mile away, and should only be used very sparingly, or after you first understand how to use different color values.
I agree with you; good topic. The potential for games, or a 3D interface that promotes interaction, is still in its infancy. It is good to see bold companies pushing themselves to make games with more meat, than your average shooter.
Yes, nowdays it is, but not when it was the first time you ever experienced a 3D game, Period! Thank god, however for evolution and innovation - we've come a long way.
Playing:
metroid prime, paper mario, max payne2, crimson skies, Riddick, prince of persia, gta vice city, doom 3, cs:source, fable.
I'm sure I left some out. I just pick a game a night, and stick with it. But I too fear that HL2 will suck me away for some time.
I would pay more attention to making a FUN mod first. But, on the other hand, I'm sure trying to outdo Unreal3 will be a pretty good learning experience for ya... so knock yourself out, Freeman.
ebay it... you can get a wacom intuos2 for under $200. You don't need a large tablet, especially if this is your first....the small ones work just as well, are actually easier to place in your lap and maneuver, and take less space.
