Ok, lets get this cleared up. Did you: A: Install the game from the discs? B: Install steam and register the games? C: Do something else? If so, what?

Warrentee should mean that you get that model or one as good or better. If they send you a lower spec model, kick up a fuss/sniper outside thier head office.

This thread a month old, that steam prob was yesterday, so its unlikly its that. I assume that this is resolved as you've not posted in a month, but just incase, 2 things. Do any other apps have probs with net connections, or is it just steam. Also, you forgot to kick the computer after steps 2...

Reinstall internet explorer or use firefox. Either way, should only take 10 mins, so whichever you prefer :) If you do decide to reinstall internet exploder (sic) you do it through the "Windows components" list of "Add/Remove programs". You may need your windows disk, can't remember off the top...

Did you go into steam and do the "Register CD key" bit? I'm not sure, but I think with retail you have to install from the discs (Someone feel free to correct me, I havn't bought retail since half life 1)

Sounds ****ed up (Technical expression;)) If its under warantee, send it back. If its not, crack her open and have a dust clear out. Then reinstall windows. Drastic, but it sounds like the laptops got serious issues.

Yes, should have said. Planning single card only, and possibly overclock the CPU, but not looking for extreme levels. Looks like the P45 is the one to go for then? I assume the X58 is going to be much more expensive for not much more gain, and I don't plan on waiting a couple of months anyway :)...
