OK, I agree that the AI probably was toned down to keep things predictable for the demo, but as far as I know there is no official word on this whatsoever and everyone is acting like it's common knowledge. If anyone can provide a link showing official word on this, I'd like to see it.
I think...
Gabe hinted at it? When?
It would be cool for Shephard to come back, but he wasn't exactly a developed character. He never talks, and you never see his face. That's about as anonymous as you can make a character. If he did make an appearance in HL2, he would invariably have to say something...
I agree with switch, I want to feel like if I'm not careful, I'll be killed. Not like a tactical shooter like Ghost Recon, but where the environment still feels dangerous and you're watching every corner. Maybe System Shock 2-ish.
I've never actually heard a grenade go off but maybe it could make a ringing noise like your ears are ringing when one goes off nearby. They had an ear ringing part in Opposing Force where at first I wasn't sure if it was me or the game. On the other hand, this feature could be really annoying...
They could make your vision get all blurry, and "eyelids" would close in from the top and bottom of the screen as the life drained out of you. Then, you see a light...
Well, something they had in Half-Life and also in Jedi Knight was enemies that gloated over you after they killed you, so that was kind of fun. They could do something like Goldeneye, where blood runs down the screen.
I've read as many previews as I've been able to find, but I don't recall reading about any other major locations than City 17, although I did read one that said that vehicles would be used for long distance travel. Is your point that it's known that there are or aren't other locations?
Well, these are just a few dumb things that don't amount to much, but it's always fun to speculate. :D
- In the video, the presentor says City 17 is "one of the main locations in Half-Life 2" Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but could that mean there are several "main locations"?
- Also...
One thing I noticed in the video is that the combine soldiers seem to have very bad aim. This isn't necessarily bad as long as the game is fun, but I wonder if something was changed for the demo. You can see a few instances during the e3 video, like around the time the radiator is picked up...
