It is actually the reverse. Most console games are designed for the PS2 as the lowest common denominator, and then they port to the Xbox/GC, and the majority of the the GC/Xbox versions look best with more features. That is one of the reasons why that many Xbox games do not blow PS2 games out of...
Gabe Newell noted in GS final hours deal that they were working on the Xbox (not Xbox2... we can always hope version).
Whhy would they make an Xbox version? It is a familiar Intel/x86 CPU and a Nvidia (DX 8ish) GPU. So the code should run almost natively with very little rewriting. BUT...
Calm down. Same goes for CombineSoldier. He is new (4 posts) and is asking a valid question--at least try to be helpful. We, as the HL2 community, should be nice to our nice new friends :) The more the better. He probably got the game last week and is wanting to know more.
Welcome to the...
Hmmm The thread is "How many GotY awards" not whether YOU think it deserved it :| As for CoD, it was like an 8-10 game. HL2 took me 2x longer to beat and had a lot better plot/gameplay/graphics imo. HL2DM/CS:S are better than CoD MP imo... if I want WWII MP I would play BF1942 which is way...
I have a 6800GT with the 67.02 drivers. I do not have this problem, and I did not have this problem with the drivers I had downloaded in Augest.
There are new drivers, so you should download those. Also, since you have as 6800LE, that card only has 8 PS units and low quality RAM. Since AA/AF...

So many contradictions in what he says... not point responding... but your post is spot on!
Ps- I love steam. I love knowing the developer is getting more of the pie. I love knowing it discourages piracy...
That makes no sense. Valve cannot customize to every possible CPU/GPU/RAM/Resolution/Etc setup possible. MOST DX7 boards are weaker than most DX8 boards, which are weaker than most DX9 boards. It was a fairly safe option to do what they did for the sake of the gameplay experience. All I can say...
Or playing Halo 2 on a Widescreen HD TV and HL2 on a 14inch monitor at 800x600 with DX7 effects (MX440). I wont even comment on graphics... if they are not going to break it down and look at the art direction, variety, map design, technical merits of the engine, and all the other aspects of a...
My eyes!!! Oh my aching eyes!
Never trust a site that cannot even figure out that blue on blue and red on blue is MORONIC! 1st graders should not be allowed to have sites...
Btw, the conclusion was obvious. Note the path: www.gamedaily.com/xbox/halo2/
6600GT > 9800 series. Links upon request. Personally, I would not spend $130 on a 9600XT. Nice cards and all, but really not worth it imo. It would be a bit faster, and look a little nicer, but they are not power cards. If you were running a GF MX/2 I would say go for it, but a Ti4200 is not...
TheQuartz,
Great job!
I have a few small suggestions on control... I meant to write these out when I asked for the gunship a while back hehehe. Have the Helicopter fly like BF: Vietnam or, better yet, the Battlefield 1942 mod "Desert Combat". This is how they work:
Joystick:
1) •...
Raawr, Interesting suggestion. PERSIONALLY, I like how it is like a tank. Your feet move one way but you can control where you look/shoot.
If you think about how a Strider walks I think it does not make sense having to move the feet to aim left and right. It has three legs. All those small...
I think this forum has long established each company has their own standard. e.g. GameSpot thinks a game with a 9.2 is better than games with 9.3 and 9.4. Go figure
10/10 for a rating does not mean "perfect w/o flaw and can never be beaten" in most mags. It just means, "At this...
Oh turn off ;)
They never said this was the ATI levels... Gabe said the ATI levels were some graphically impressive levels they were working on that required high end video cards... so there is no connection there. You are making this up so you can complain.
As for ruining the experience...
PCI Express (not to be confused with PCI-X, which is a workstation 64bit solution I believe) is not useless for gamers.
Future cards are almost all going to be PCI Express. One of the big reasons why is PCI allows much better caching and access to system memory. It is bi-directional and can...
While I know that is what sites say (not just GameSpot), the fact is these reviewers are backed up by GameSpot (or IGN, GameSpry, PC Gamer, etc...). If the other editors disagreed then it no longer reflects the company, which begs the question why GameSpot would have a review that does not...
Interesting... GameSpot FPS ratings for 2004:
Halo 2: 9.4
Unreal Tournament 2004: 9.4
CoR: 9.3
FarCry: 9.2
HL2: 9.2
MP2: 9.1
And HL2 won Best FPS of the Year award. Obviously the ratings between platforms is arbitrary (what is great on the GCN for a specific genre may not be great on...
