I think you guys are overestimating your own brain's ability to take in information. It can't do a hundred things at once and noticing proper shadowing (if it's not your/the game designers' primary focus) is not a big deal because you brain actually 'fills in the gaps' on missing information...
did it start on a train, go to city 17 and end with a helicopter shooting at you and then Gman smiling? If so it is the one from E3 and we have seen it before.
If you ask me, the number or percentage is mostly a measure of how polished the game is; are there outstanding bugs? are sound/graphics good? etc. The stuff that really make me decide if a game is good or not is the game design; looking at how the game was built and the unique or fun ideas in it.
I am all for picking things up with hands. Just imagine being chased by the combine while firing at them and picking up everything you can to drop it in their way and watching them stumble over stuff. It's great gameplay (hopefully not like DX2 where picking things up while fighting was clumsy...
To be honest I never expected strong language, mature sexual themes or 'intense' violence in HL2. I guess the question is what is the difference between 'violent content' and 'intense violence'.
TF2 will be a stand alone game because it is a game that stands alone from HL2; it always was. They have nothing to do with each other beside the Source engine...
(I guess it could come with a Collector's Edition of HL2). This has nothing to do with how greedy Valve is. Chances are nobody here...
DX2: my biggest complaint has to be the lack of atmosphere. It is so dull being in those 'cities'. There is hardly anybody on the 'streets', it is continually night time, the same textures/models are used everywhere, few interesting events actually happen in the 'cities' aside from Your missions...
I've seen that screenshot before and to me it looks like the ruins on Mars that the UAC are excavating. The lighting looks great in that shot as well as the little bit of fog at the back.
In defence of Raziaar (since he seems to be getting beaten to a pulp here), I think he is getting at how...
2 things I wonder about:
What is performance like on those minimun requirements? Is it their targeted 60fps (which I think is really high) or is it <30 which would be barely playable.
Another thing is: could it be that they've added more physical objects to play with and that has upped the...
To the people who confidently voted Doom3 (not me, though I did vote D3) explain why it is more advanced and what 'advanced' even means in this situation?
It's really not about which game has more. I see two games that are going to be very different experiences from each other and I can guarantee you won't get a 'Doom3 experience' out of HL2 and you won't get a 'HL2 experience' out of Doom3.
Alright, I've offended people. I'd better pull out of this one.
It's just that I've been here on this board so long and have heard everything that Devilphish is saying from... other forum members of the past... over and over again so I didn't really feel like arguing the same points as I have...
What is over my head exactly?
First you said that Source would not be useful in the future the reason being it does not use real-time shadows. Then, when it was pointed out to you that real-time shadows could very possibly be added into Source in the future (like what other engines have been...
Oh, so we are talking about NOW as in the present where the majority of people (including me) still have mid-range computers and where pretty graphics comes with a price in performance and in amount of other features (AI, physics, etc) the dev wants to add in. I thought we were talking about the...
My point, Devilphish (if that is your real name), is that your whole argument that Source is an inferior engine is based on:
1. Real-time shadows is some sort of holy grail of graphics that few devs can dream of implementing
2. That Source cannot be updated to implement real-time shadows in...
Devilphish, I'm not sure but I'm PRETTY sure that we both know that this topic has been brought up over and over and over again. If you want to tell me that Deus Ex 2 graphics are revolutionary and that real-time shadows is an ability that only a select few developers possess that is your...
