If it was a teleport machine there would probably be some sort of lightwork or art for it. I know we couldnt really see but it just looked like he popped up by the engine.

(On a different note) Did you see on traptown when the first combine soldier appears. He just appears from nowhere like he was teleported in.

Like the way teh man hack leaves marks on the bookshelf, they look a bit biffy. The puddles are nice at the very beginning aswell.

Valved Ray looking at that picture you cant be sure if there are displacement waves. The water doesnt reach the boat only a small bank of sand. We dont know what shape the bank is. The water could still be flat, the perspective could just be confusing.

Adding cloth like deformations for water like in UT2k3 would probably kill off the refraction effects or add a lot more work to make it look so good.
It was probably a choice to leave water flat but not look flat. It might not even be flat in some parts of the game. We dont know yet.
Splinter cell has both static and dynamic shadows aswell.
Static as described above and dynamic as in the way the player casts a shadow, lighs can be smashed, fans cast moving shadows etc.
Fully dynamic is pretty hard to achieve and pretty hard on your pc. I dont think its worth it with...

They probably left the source demos out so they could get some dialog for it. Maybe recording some new audio or putting some subtitles in. The source parts dont make as much sense without Gabe chattin in the background.
