I'm on my first playthrough of HL2, and I've just finished Black Mesa East. I've heard so much about Ravenholm, and I am freaked out by survival horror, and I'm a little afraid of doing the mission. Is it really that bad?

I found out if you use the console and put in "thirdperson" after putting in "sv_cheats 1" you can sort of see gordon. Unfortunately, you just see his hands. he has no body!!

Right on. You could probably compare System Shock 2 to Half Life 2 much more easily. Actually HL1 and SS2 probably compare even better because, IMO, HL1 was a little more horror focused than HL2.
