TED presents talks on interesting/serious topics which are usually understandable by a layman. Academics like to pepper their lectures and seminars with jokes, because they are human and suspect that their listeners are human too.
 
If they assumed we would find this information interesting/useful/funny, they were wrong on all counts.

What's so wrong with learning about how parts of our bodies work? It's not exactly common knowledge how this sort of thing comes around. It's like this is just coupled with dirty nasty evil people and should only be talked about in closed doors.
