2008 South Ossetia War

The worst part in all the pictures of war is the blankness of the eyes. It always gets me, the terror and the destruction of hope in people's eyes.

and yet you somehow support and cherish the military? probably to that extent that if south korea had a chance to take over the world trough force you would blindly support it?

If we had a chance, I would join the military.

Even if we didn't, I'm still looking for a career as an officer in the Army, if I manage to enter the Army Academy.

Perhaps I'm being hypocritical here, but as much as I acknowledge the horrors of war, I also acknowledge the need for force when required, as to ensure that justice among nations will prevail, and mankind may enjoy freedom and inherit peace, someday.

maybe supporting the military isn't inherently evil, but that somewhat like pointing your gun to anybody who walks close to your property even if you don't plan to shoot

that's precisely why the worlds is ****ed up as it is. your rival country is thinking the same. most nations have a different definition of peace and justice. even hitler would find peace and justice if he succeeded eliminating all the unwanted.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Numbers is brainwashed.

Except that the guy also has a gun.

Yes, but you know, I have a belief in the truth among all truths; my country is always in the right, it stands for justice and freedom, and that it shall be forever so. That belief, I would imagine, will never be changed.

I realize that the other bastard might harbor the same beliefs for his country, but what the hell. :| I know I'm right, because my country's right. You can't explain this feeling.

Justice, peace, freedom.... Maybe what I'm for is not the peace of humanity, but the peace of my country, and its eternal prosperity, and my people's freedom.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Numbers is brainwashed.

Maybe so, my dear, but my love for you shall never falter. :D

Wait, wrong line.....

*awkward silence*

sounds to me you stand for anything your country tells you to stand for. Dangerous.

Aaaaand yet another reminder that Numbers is not only quirky, but actually, on occasion, downright ****ing scary.

Rather, I stand for my country, and it alone. What it stands for, I stand for.

Of course, there may come a time, and I surely hope never, when I am disillusioned, or my country changes so much that I am against its "qualities", and then I'll strive for change.

My head hurts now. :p

Hey, I'll still give you a third of Europe when I take over the world! :E

Patriotism is only good if it's Australian patriotism!

Australia isn't a real country. We'd take back the colonies and whatnot but nobody can be bothered to go all the way over to you to sort you out.

We'll do it if you can give us the North and some decent roads (Ireland's roads are shite).

It's not that he's taking bad shots, it's that he's taking pictures of a guy who just lost his son/brother/nephew/friend, taking pictures of a woman caught in wires and shit - she's looking right at him, and all he does is snap a few pictures.

The pic with the tank on the guys car, that's fine ntohing can be done for him anyways, or the pictures of blown up tanks, the picture of solders walking, those are fine, but shit, show some respect for some of these people y'know?

I don't think you understand how photography works in times of war...

They're freaking photogs, not humanitarian aid workers.

If every photog stopped to help everybody who's mourning, everybody who's bleeding to death, everybody who's got a blood spurting bullet wound, there'd be absolutely no pictures of what's going on, leaving the public poorly misinformed.

What is he supposed to do anyway? Give out free lense caps to dying soldiers?

The only thing I could think of while looking at the pics is that the Photographer is a complete asshole/dick.

Especially that 3rd pic, wtf is wrong with the photographer there? Stupid asshole.

Without those photos you would have no idea the extent that this is affecting civilians, you'd just be seeing military types (all unharmed of course, don't want to disrespect the wounded do we?) and destroyed buildings. Which would probably make a lot of people shrug and pay little attention.

Now photos of people injured, dying and suffering make people care just that little bit more.
