5.1 sound problem

no sound in hl2 when set to 5.1 surround, but do get sound when set to 2 speakers, does anyone have any ideas about this. I have a creative sound blaster live digital and creative 5.1 surround speakers. thanks mullmon

I`ve got somewhat the same problem, except I get sound, but it`s crackling and stuttering. I`ve got the same soundcard as you but it came as a bulk with a dell machine.

I used steam support 2-3 weeks ago and reported the problem and all the support guy said was that they "was working on it".

I get sound from the centre speaker only in 5.1 mode. 2 speaker mode is OK, all the other modes are silent. I have a Realtek AC97 (mobo integrated). I'm pretty sure it's a bug, but I have no clue on how to fix it

I also have soundblaster live sound card and it too only works in 2 speaker mode. Must be a bug. I 'm sure the upcoming patch will fix it.

Ive also got the same problem as you. Im using the Realtek AC97 sound on the mobo. if you find a fix please post it Thanks.
Ive got it set in 2.1 at the mo.

Yep I have EXACTLY the same problem aswell. I got Realtek'97. Ummm there seems like there is no solution but looks as though it is a bug with HL2.

Really is a shame because I brought some Zalman 5.1 headphones to play with Half-life2. No luck. ONLY CENTRE SPEAKER.

I have just emailed gabe he might throw it on the to do list to fix bugs.

A quick update (you might be aware of it already) from Computer and Videogames:

"Nvidia is working on a driver update to get 5.1 sound working properly."

i've seen HL2 supports 7.1
is it really that much of an improvement from 5.1 ?

Not for me it doesn't. It worked in Doom 3, but now it doesn't work in anything. It's ****ing annoying.
