6600GT AGP is out!

Hey everyone-

For those, like me, who have been agonizing over upgrading their vid card for HL2, but were waiting to get the 6600GT's rather than spend the money on a Radeon, looks like the wait is up! Slightly late, but I'm only 6 hours into the game so far ... I guess I could start over!

i went and bought a 9800 pro from bestbuy yesterday. luckily bestbuy have a 30 day return policy with no restocking fee so ill be returning it soon.

the x700xt kills the 6600gt in half life 2.

6600gt does very badly in half life 2. In fact a 9800xt outperforms it and puts its face in the mud.

Hell the 9800xt actually beats out a 6800gt at times (thats sad nvidia)

Anantech unlike driverheaven, used newest beta drivers for both cards, and used their own custom tiomedemoes, not the ati provided ones!

As for the ATI x800pro vs. 6800gt - it's a tie !

Face the fact people, theres no one über card, both brands scored great with current generation gpus .

mabye you should look at the xbit ones, they show it completly diffrent, and unlike all the other benches done by places like anda.

They turn everything to full, like REFECLT ALL.

Yes, changing the water.settings from reflect.world -> reflect.all does provide a significant benefit for ATI (which I have also mentioned in another post) Anadtech CLEARLY states that they used reflect.world.

However, xbits used (at least partially) the ati supplied demoes, so I still place my faith in anandtech.com.

And please note, that my post was a answered to the question on whether "ATI trashed nvidia" in hl2, still dont belive that to be the case.

So with even if we accept the xibits benchmarks, what we see is ap. 20fps more on the x800xt vs. 6800u at ideal settings (for x800xt) now if this was the difference between 30 and 50 frames, yes it would make/break playability, but with it beeing the difference between 98 and 120 fps, it really dosent matter (IMHO)

Fact is that with either a 6800u/688gt or a x800xt/pro you will get a virtually identical experience playing the game. So no one got "thrashed" the performance is comparable from both vendors.

(Until the ati levels are out)

I'v always been a nvidia my self. Only time i use a ati card it was on my dual g5 2.0 ghz mac. i got the 9600 on it. but on all my pc's its been nvidia. i dont know why i like nvidia that much i just due.
