Sure Doom 3 is a very cool game (I'm playing right now.) It does have its weak points. We all know HL2 will do well, but what score do you think it will receive at gamespot?

I'm gunna guess 9.3 Superb Editors choice.

Well, Valve are lying about their game to begin with.
It is all about hipe to them. Sure, lets delay it once again.

Therefore, I would give them a 5 out of 10 meaning that their game is crap/average.
The engine is finished. It has been finished for over a year.
The maps a year ago however were not finished. From the Detail that I heard the maps/levels would be in, I understand that it would take about a week to complete the levels.

Now, everyone also should understand this. Also from what I have heard from TRUSTFUL people is that counter-strike source shouldn't even have a beta. Well, what I mean by that is that they shouldn't call it a beta when it has been a beta for 5 years. It will always be a beta until they decide not to keep the mod active any longer. then the last one will be a final.
Remember guys, use that space between your ears and you will take over the earth with your powers.

didnt play hl2 yet :F

i was expecting i would rate doom3 9 after playing it before it came out.. but now i finished it i wouldnt give it any more than 7.5 (for sound and graphics). there are many scarier games out there, and gameplay is quite slow and nothing special, especially after lvl 6.

thats just my 2c .. i know people that loved doom3 and are playing it over for the 3rd time already.. so different tastes really.

i dont like to base my interest on a game according to a score some magazine gives it, because in the end its personal opinion.. doom3 got 94% at pc gamer..

I cant believe it only got 8.5! Half-life 2 will do better if its as good as the movies suggest but if gamespots rating system would allow a 12 out of 10 for visulas then doom3 would have got it.

Hey Tiny68 it is out of 10. 1 being below average, 5 being average, 10 being above average.

It shows that HL2 may have a chance to be above average. so it would fall in the cat between 6 and 10

Oh and for you. No one knows weather it will be a game of the year until we play it. Quit being an ass and hiping a game up that you haven't seen yet.
I am going to laugh if the game is a bad game. All you hipers are going to be like. Jack, you were right all along.

gameplay and graphics would both get a nine and everything else would get a ten

so that's about a 9.6

you are goign to hell for saying it will get a 9 for game play AND GRAPHICS

Im aware of that I was just stating that given they gave doom3 10/10 for graphics and have given other games very close to 10/10 or indeed 10/10 then to look at doom3 and think "thats better than 1 point better than those games" would not be unfair (I believe). To me doom3 has crossed their 10/10 boundary using other games they have rated as a reference and crossed it easily.

gee Jack, it sounds like Gabe came over to your house and kicked your dog. Did that happen? Cause that wouldn't be cool...

Gamespot are wankers, I swear. They don't have a clue what they're talking about. I remember when they gave Tony Hawk 3 perfect scores! A 10! That was possibly the worst Tony Hawk game for it's time. I reckon they're giving low scores cause they finally found out that they overate games. Either that or the number of hits on their site has gone down, so they try and create controversy by giving high profile games such as Doom3 mediocre scores. I mean it's working right? People are going to the site from this forum to see why they gave it such a score. Hell there's even a thread on this...And no I'm not a danger to myself or anyone else.

9.2 will be the average I'm guessing.

And I bet it will be hip to bash the game for its delays. Prepare to see score deductions because of it, even though that very notion is rediculous.

Lowering the score -because- it was late? Not likely.

Lowering the score because it's not as good now compared to other games right now, whereas if it had come out 09/03 or earlier this year, it may have gotten a better score? I'm sure that'll happen.

It's hard to say if Doom 3 even deserved a rating as high as 8.5... Just as I predicted, it will turn out to be another technological demonstration. The gameplay no more engaging than the original Doom games, except this time, 10 years later, and with incredibly superior graphics. Sure it's the best we've seen, but it's not close to being the best we've played. The original Half-Life's gameplay was much more complex and enjoyable than this!

My 'GameSpot-ish' review, as follows:
Gameplay 7
Graphics 10
Sound 7
Value 6
Tilt 8
Final Score: 7.6

Gameplay, is bland, repetitive, and fairly simple.
Graphics, the best ever.
Sound, nothing too special here.
Value, beat it once, there isn't much point beating it again, it's too predictable. Where did the multiplayer go? (Waiting for mods...)
Tilt, it was enjoyable, perhaps recommendable, but when it's over, it's really over... I probably won't be coming back to this one anytime soon, until some good mods come out.

Also, we won't have to worry too much about this one competing with HL2, at least quality- or experience-wise.

That was basically what I was implying.

Well said. This is exactly what I expect to see when the reviews start coming in.

It proves my point when people at Gamespot say the sound is nothing special, and give it a 7. WANKERS I SAY!

I luurv D00M3 , it can be a very scary game, and fighting when your slightly scared is fun.......I would Rate is 9...i rated it 9.3 before i played it

I would rate Hl2 from what i seen and read about 9.5.....i doubt this will go down when i do get to play it...it may even go up lol

EDIT: And if you wonder how i got the game, im currently in USA. ^_^

I am getting this game no matter what game sites say. I have my own reviews too, they cannot control my way of buying games.

The only thing I find lacking right now in Doom3 so far is the bland firefights, and the fairly simplistic storyline. I'm not done the game yet, so I wont make any final conclusions, but from what I've played all the enemies just run straight at you, and the plot is just your typical alien invades planet type thing. Half-life should be much more immersive not only because of the atmosphere (something Doom3 has NO LACK OF by the way), but because of the realistic way the NPC's act, and the plot / sub-plot lines. Doom3 is just you running around by yourself, occasionally with some help from guys that will probably die by the time the level ends. Half-life 2 has important NPC's that stay with you throughout the story and hopefully you will empathize with them by the end of the game. Doom 3 is an f-ing amazing game, but from what is promised and demonstrated at trade-shows Half-life 2 will be even better.

Jack, I don't get what you mean. The game was pretty much done, how else would you explain the leaked beta? Plus from your post (if I understand what you were implying) you said that CS:S didn't need a beta because Counter-Strike was played to death for 5 years. That doesn't mean that they still don't need to test it out. Remember that they changed the physics from HL2 to suit the gameplay of counter-strike, and that it's based on Condition Zero, a fairly newer update to the CS series.

rofl, indeed.

doom3 is awesome, and it certainly keeps you on edge. Its tons of fun, though I take it in bursts, partially so I can get a more cheery atmosphere now and then, and partially because it can get a bit repetitive. Its a lot like the old doom, except much darker. Its made me jump twice so far (CS made me jump more times today alone ;P) but thats probably because I'm fairly desensitized to it ;)

but overall hl2 seems like it is going to be more fun, and I think doom3 is going to run out of gas soon.

if you have surround sound, Doom III sounds a lot better than with just headphones

You are just jealous

I think it will score 9+ if it follows it's predecessor. For those that gripe about the game being delayed remember Half-Life was delayed many times with the final delay being almost a year while the completley redid the game.

I would give Doom3 a 8.9 and possibly a 9.0, if it wasn't for certain annoyances, such as:
- The lack of level a map, i felt it was too easy to get lost.
- Most of the weapons sux, they sound weak and old.
- ugh.. the stupid flash light that should had been attached to the weapons in the first place.
- The first few levels were borring and plain - although it gets a lot better later on in the game.
- Having mosters spamwing behing you all the time gets old after a while.

Graphics and Sounds are top of the line however.

Ok, stop. What graphics? It's too dark to see anything, they could replace the monster models with sprites for all the difference it would make: you don't see them anyway and the framerate would be higher for it.

As long as it gets 9.4 or better it's either matched or surpassed its predecessor.

Gamespot are console jockies anyway, they always rate console games higher. (for example Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, which was seriously overrated by Gamespot!!!)

In Doom 3 - try standing up close to the wall (or any textured surface for that matter) very low res and very poor quality (I'm playing on High quality settings) !! Mind you it still looks a lot better than a lot of games.

The only thing that saves Doom 3 for me is the shock factor - I've soiled my pants at least 3 times ::w00t::

HL2 is still on for GOTY I reckon! :E :E :E :E

Why do you think all the enviroments are so dark? ;)

Most of DooM 3's spectacular effects are produced from lighting as oppose to textures and the models themselves.

So wait... The firefights are bland... and the story is uninvolving... so what's left?

Doom without firefights is like star trek without nerds.

Not a lot sadly. Graphics i suppose...but they can't carry a game to glory.

It's like, determing what a exotic fruit will taste like before you put it in your mouth. All we have done now for the past year/s is to inhale the scent of HL2.

GAME SPOT BLOWS. do not go by their opinion.

everother site and magazine gave doom3 90-100.

Gamespot gave doom3 same score as painkiller and 10 less points than FARCRY!..its a stupid console-gaming-noob site. dont listen to them.

doom3 deserves a 9.3. they gave deus-ex a 8.5 also. They suck at PC gaming reviews. they rate halo higher than any fps.

i dont understand why halo was so popular, seems pretty mediocre to me.

anyway, as long as half-life scores better than doom3 i will be happy, i dont know why im not really a big doom fan, i love id, but it just feels like their in competition with eachother

going by gamespot's pc game reviews is just lunacy.
