I'm surprised no one else has brought this up, but it is that you didn't receive the crowbar till half way through the game! As useless as it can be, it is a symbol of the game and of Gordon! :flame:
They better not do it again.

If you consider Episode 1 an extension of the Half Life 2 story, it's just like losing the Crowbar in Dark Energy then getting it back in Urban Flight.

i wouldn't really call it bad at all, i fink they did it so that u can become more comfortable & confident with using the GG by throwing things either at the enemy or using it to escape or block the enemy from u.

I think it made a real difference to the game, and a positive one at that. It kept Lowlife tense by keeping the ammunition relatively low, and trained people to use the gravity gun for their "object hitting enemy" needs. We got it eventually, and the scene where we did was quite good anyway :)

In one of the Robin Walker interviews he mentioned about getting the crowbar late in the game..

And I highly doubt a crowbar would be lieing around a city of rubble.

I sure hope that Freeman doesn't get into the habit of replacing his crowbar every game. :D Getting the crowbar late was probably the least VALVe could do for their original goal of having Freeman not get any weapons until later. At least the Zero-Point Energy Field Manipulator serves the crowbar's function of breaking things so it isn't all bad.

I just think the crowbar is too much of a symbol to be left like that.
Perhaps receiving the crowbar that late in the game is a symbol in itself.

There is quite a bit of symbolism/duality between HL2 and Ep1. Something tells me that Ep1 was a "symbolic" break in the nature of the HL2 universe because Ep2 looks nothing like we've seen from the HL universe to date.

I thought it was a very clever move. A more realistic and nice one not to mention. I loved that you didnt get it till very late.

I just love how Barney mentioned that he doesn't have very many left. Rather clever. Like he has a few that he deems Gordon-worthy and he's collected them on the off chance you might need them at some point.

Barney is walking down an abandoned corridor and notices a crowbar being kicked by his left foot. He perks his head up to dwell on a thought for a second and then leans down to pick it up, "Yeah, I'm sure he'll need this eventually."
