Achievements incoming...

'he' is known by one name...

is it me?

Goddamn it. It lives. As a zombie. Again. Just to piss me off.

And did Druckles celebrate his unbanning with a posting spree?

Um... no...

Although there are several threads out there I intended to post in which I just can't remember. Really bugging me, now. Argh. I think I got most of them.

Druckles was banned...

When, and why...
(May as well chat while we're waiting another week or so for TF2 achievements)

I know that...

The word used was 'was'

I like Valve next "Meet the should be scout, but it will be a medic because they want to fit it into achievements :P

I served my sentence. I am a free man once more, and shall attempt to purge the HL2.net world from scum.

Good to hear it...

Well, Badlands is out and going well...

It can't be that much further away....

can it?

CRY SOME MORE!!!!

And you'll get Goldrush and achievements faster, according to Iron Cube :)

I'm talking to Greg Coomber about TF2 and the achievements and all that:

Greg: I think they're referring to the medic-centric achievements that Robin mentioned? That just got talked about too early. We're building some stuff in TF2 which relates to the new achievements, and that's taking a while. No, I don't have a date for you.
iogg: Okay, how about the older source games being transferred to the new source engine?
iogg: How is that going?
Greg is now Offline.

When I asked Mike Durand about the source engine updates, he wrote this:

It isn't clear yet whether or when we will update HL2 with HDR. The problem is that the HDR version of the engine has higher hardware requirements than the original HL2 engine and updating it will cause users with older machines to no longer be able to run
HL2. We have ways to solve this problem but there is no timeframe for this.

When I asked Mike Durand about the source engine updates, he wrote this:

Sounds like they haven't even started and are not planning on doing it any time soon :( At least they could give us that Meet the Scout video what's taking them so long.

When I asked Mike Durand about the source engine updates, he wrote this:

That is so frusturating; I'd really love to have that update, especially considering the resources to do it are small compared to some of the other updates they're doing with TF and such. If the problem is the system resources, then they can have it as an optional update. I really don't see what the problem is when doing it that way, just like the HD pack for HL.

They have both HL2 and Ep1 ready on xbox360, they can easily port them back to pc.

Exactly, I just don't get it. Someone had an email from Gabe N saying something about waiting until they have more bandwidth, and then they go and release a huge TF2 update. There was a slump in steam bandwidth activity for a while there, I don't get what happened.

It's not that simple. It's certainly not that easy. The HD pack with Half-Life wasn't an "optional update" as it wasn't sold on Steam, and there would be all sorts of things to take into account when trying to make it an optional update. What if someone updates it who wants to change their mind? Then you have to make it reversible! The updates they have with TF2 are generally new maps, new gameplay types, and add-ons which don't require additional hardware power, but simply extend on what the game is already doing. A HDR pack for Half-Life 2 would require actually changing an integral part of the game. They've already said that they don't have that kind of time for it. They're too busy working on Episode Three.

Um... No.

Oh so your iogg.

:O Slow much?

Its easy, there is just one simple reason why that probably havnt started it...

Valve can't be arsed with old games.

Done

I really don't understand your point. Yes, the HD pack for Half-Life WAS an optional update, through both steam AND the WON versions. You are correct, there are things to take into account when making it an optional update... but in comparison to creating brand new content, as I said, the man power to "port" the HDR maps over to PC (even though it's not really even a port) is far less. Yes, HDR requires additional hardware power, but the very nature of an optional update addresses this issue. If someone has a choice, then it is their responsibility if they download the update and can't run it efficiently. The only "integral part of the game" the HDR portion of the update would cause is a recompiling of larger map files. A large update as far as space goes? Yes, but the complexity isn't all that bad. Then there's the updating of models, shaders, etc, all of which is just replaceable, downloadable content.

While I've seen a few notes on this issue from valve, I've NEVER seen them say they don't have time for it. Do you have a source for that or are you completely making that up? The only problems they've taken into account and let us know about is 1) Bandwidth 2) How to address the optional aspects, which once resolved, don't sound like they require a large portion of the Episode 3 dev team at all.

No, obviously not. Thanks for pointing that out though, you've made me a better person with your care and forum posting prowess. You can die happy; your life is complete.

There's no reason to be sarcastic.

Stop whining Nicky 0123.

You hardly deserve to play valve's games with such arrogant behavior.

And you hardly have any right to complain at myself for miserable-old-soddingness. He has every right to complain. Complaining is the very nature on which humanity is based upon.
