Act of War demo out...

Oh crap yes. Yes yes yes YES!

:D

Edit: 668Mb? Bugger me.

So this is an RTS? Looks decent enough from the screens, never heard of it before.

This game looks very intresting. They even have a website which runs in Windows Media player which is just bizzare. Anyway here are some screen shots: http://media.pc.ign.com/media/697/697866/imgs_1.html

The demo has 5 missions, which is rather good. Explains where the huge filesize comes from, I guess.

"Three different playable sides, over 100 different units and upgrades, over fifteen different skirmish maps with terrains from all over the world, over 30 single player missions."

So, yes ;)

wicked.... what type of gameplay is it like? I am a little confused about how you play the game. Is the city just for eye candy or is it relivant to what you actually do or have to achieve?

From what I can gather, you can garrison men and stuff within the buildings, but other than that I don't think they're hugely important. The game isn't all set within cities. They do however claim that they are fully destructible.

Hopefully it will be the next starcraft.
(Which starcraft is still like the most online played RTS if not game or close to it).
In other words
Simple
Fun
Free Big Online
& One of the biggest ingredients
Races that are quite diffrent than eachother but still insanley balanced.
(Though in sc they were nothing alike at all)

Ok, this game officially rocsk. This is a very serious recommendation. TRhe gameplay is just totally different for an RTS, it seems to be very realistic and you can control indervidual men, eveything is normal sized and well... I am just WOWED! This is definatly one to type out... The only thing I could complain about would be the game isn't very polished visually. Its a discusting user interface and the graphics when zoomed in suck (they havn't taken into acount LOD systems) This doesn't make it a bad game, but thats my old bad point. I havn't played it much. But I am definatly plan too. I might wait until I can buy it though so I don't spoil some things.

Or in this case different factions/groups instead of races...:p

Hmmm, I can't seem to complete the mission.... I am only given Barret snipers and Commando assault troopers to infiltrate a city full of gurillas in buildings. I die like straight away. I managed to do everything but the last mission and I had spent god knows how much moeny on troops. I ended up with no money :O Isn't there anyway to actually get tanks to complete the mission? What about rocket troopers?

It's looks like Generals 2 to me (which isn't entirely a bad thing).

Can someone clarify the story? What's the situation? The "media player" website seems to disagree with me. What are the single player missions actually like? Linear, scripted, decent voice-acting...? What what what?!

Yes, I'm vaguely excited if you haven't noticed. It's fairly rare for a demo to get fully-positive feedback on this forum.

It's very enjoyable, although it is about as basic as Generals in terms of gameplay (infantry destroying tanks etc.). I get weird blackscreen flickering a lot though, quite odd.

hmm..... my infanty don't kill tanks :( mine suck. It takes like 15 of them to get rid of one tank and about 7 of them end up losing there arms and start dying on the floor until I can fly my medical helecopter over. But even then it gets shot down by gurillas in random buildings.

KUSSSOOOOOO!!!!

Bah, I was kind of hoping to avoid the usual "bullets can damage tanks too!!" arcade attitude. Still seems to be a great game, despite that potential visual bug you mentioned. If only I didn't have such a crap connection... hmm. When's PCG or PCZ out? I might be able to get it on their cover DVD.

I have to admit that, although I love the idea of the destructable environs and cover/hiding system, it sounds as if the enemy capturing resource model could become tiresome very quickly.

What happened to the demo having 5 maps? Mine only had one, although it was pretty damn fun.

Dale Brown is one of my fovorite writers, so I'm looking forward to this... :D

That was awesome. Worth the download time, even for just one map.

I am buying this game.

The way the airstrikes work is the best I've seen for an RTS. It makes it easier.. while at the same time making you use them strategically and not wastefully.

No more "LOL SEND 4 BOMBERS TO GET YUOR LONE INFANTRY MAN LOL"

I really like Dale Brown too. Did he write the plot of the game?

Well, you capture them and they go in a prison you build (upgrade to barracks) and continuously generate funds.

I believe it's 50 credits per capture, at intervals of like 5 seconds or something.

Once I had captured a lot of guys in the mission in the start, I just stopped worrying about funds, ran my snipers to take out those SAMs and the SA-7 guys, then used the FA-35's on the buildings, and the drones on the AA Trucks.

Very nice control config for it too.

F2 F3 etc already configured.

urm...I'm partly through the 1st mission and I can only build infantry :|...surely thats not right. Is there any way to build vehicles or capture that enemy building in the top left ?

sounds cool :D downloading from fileplanet now.

sounds very realistic, which is good (apart from the bullets vs. tanks thing).

It's boring, and the people look really blocky when you zoom in.

Ill save my money for Age of Empires 3

Holy crap, that second screenshot with all the protestors looks amazing!

I looked at this game the other day actually, trying to find a good RTS game. Gonna download this.

It's just like C&C Generals. Frighteningly so, in fact.

Although some mouse button consistency would be nice - if right mouse is "perform action", then it should do that all the time, not swap with the left button.

It was also far, far too easy.

I like generals- it's my favorite RTS to play (although i love warcraft 3 and think that it's a better game). Generals is just so easy to pick up, and everything is so predictable- you can tell who's going to win out of every situation, plus theres so many tactics to employ. The expansion pack is fun against bots, but the multiplayer aspect (the best bit) is crap because there are too many tactics and it's impossible to defend against everything... especially in 2v2s or 3v3s.

If you want strategy go with WC3 but this game is fun for military action. It feels like C&C as there are hardly any abilities, just attack and such.
