Hello,

My name is Matt, I've worked on a mod previously for HL1, and I've learned quite a bit from my experience as part of the team.

I'm a dedicated leader, I am easy to contact, and I've always time for people.

CURRENT STATUS:
I am looking for coders who are dedicated, communicate well, and have time to enjoy our company and work together on the MOD.

I am looking for modelers who are dedicated, communicate well, and has the ability to export his own models, and an understanding, or willingness to learn the particle system for the models. (to simulate cloth and various effects)

I am looking for digi-artists, some one who can produce concept art, MOD 'propaganda', textures, and skins (or a combination of these).

THE STOREY:

The name of the MOD is Afflicted; affliction means to burden with great missery, or pain.

The MOD takes place during current times, In the cities where we live (well, maybe you, I live on a farm ;>).

There are two forces at work in the cities, The Champions of Light and the Forces of Evil.

Within each force there will be Lineages such as the vampires for the forces of evil.

Vampires would originate from their weaker sub-classes of ghouls, fight and kill to gain experience, which would allow them to progress to more advanced stages of vampirism.

Some abilities of the vampire lineage would include diseasing enemies, syphoning their life, the ability to hide within the shadows, and even flight.

ABOUT THE CONCEPT

The basic concept is 2 waring factions that must complete an objective to eliminate the opposing faction.

During this process it is possible for 1 faction member to slay several opponents, which would cause them to recieve a bonus, and play global music from a repository for their faction and lineage only. This is to create a climactic event, and let you know whos doing the ass-kicking.

I have some music that I am working on, and sounds as well.

I will be handling all of the sound-art and directing voice actors and mappers to create a world rich in atmosphere, exciting environments, and ambience to surround the players to envelope them within the game.

There is more to be said, but I will leave it up to people to ask simple or creative questions.

It's not down to the wire yet, but the wire is set.

4 to 8 Weeks (estimation) if a coder is not found one will be hired. I'm serious about this mod, I'm pleased every one I've spoke to about it agrees it will be a worth while investment. To prove my dedication as a leader I am willing to sacrafice my life style to create a great mod. If you wish to learn more about this mod you will need to contact me as I do not take the time to explain everything aspect on the board, only the basics of the mod.

I hope this resolves some insight of what kind of person I am, and how passionate I am in what I do.

You can take the time to speak with me, I'll take the time to speak with you. You can still lock an early position in the mod and build tinear now, instead of waiting days or weeks to decide to join.

I don't want to sound like Im pushing any one, Im simpley saying, early is ALWAYS better than late, I respect people a great deal if they can struggle through the starting days.

You will want the real site up as fast as possible.

When you have nothing much to show it is hard to commit to join. I need to see some maps/features and custom content or design document before considering the mod real enough to devote my time to. No one ever wants their work to go to waste when a mod closes. Even with a devoted leader mods can still go under.

I'm not trying to be negative. I hope you succeed and hey if you can get some good enough shots of content I might just look to join up! Just look professional is my advice.

Lastly the whole good vs evil/ future civilization awakens evil (or just apocalyptic future) is not very original. I am really looking forward to Insect Infestation! because it is so unique.
 
I don't take what you said as negative. What you're saying is very true. The problem is that I am not a graphics artist of web designer. I can't provide content other than what is made, which is sounds and music. People dont SEE music, which is why I have trouble recruiting people.

This mod will not die, I will keep doing my part. If I could get a web designer and an artist I could do more about the situation Im in. The maps will call for custom textures- As any good map would.

To address the originality of this I will say this.

Vampires, Werewolves (and OBVIOUSLY... humans) are well established entities, and have been seen in games previously. This is to attract those who like those sort of characters.

The differance in this mod is that rarely do you see these gothic creatures in a futuristic environment, and with this comes the originality- The reason for this is because of the terrain and opposition changes. Vampires and Werewolves won't have their typical assortment of attacks, they will have more unique attacks and abilities that are adept to fighting in the setting I've chosen.

Take for this scenario for instance.

A human has been lucky enough to survive for a period of time after accumulating enough damage to recieve the skill points and stat points to equipt himself with the powersuit available as a human. This powersuit provides a new interface or vGUI which helps him in the form of a "Computer Assist Targeting System" and has opened up the availability of heavy weapons such as the ION-PSPC (a devistation plasma cannon) and the Zealot Dispatcher (a rapid firing anti-personel shoulder mounted rocket launcher).

This human (player) would be quite powerful- running straight on to confront him would most likely prove lethal. Instead you would need to approach him by air, or from behind. Vampires have the ability to fly, and dodging missiles would be fairly easy enough to do if you were buzzing around. Coming from behind as a Werewolf may prove to be some what of a challenge, but with the ability to leap at your opponent would close the distance more quickly, and would make you much harder to hit- even with this the enemy has to face you before he can attack you.

I'll list a few inovations and abilities available:
Light armored, and medium armored marines will be able to use a jetpack upon purchasing (it will cost X amount of SP/EP, which is short for Skill Points / Equiptment Points- gained through leveling)
The jetpack is not like that of the NS (Natural-Selection) jetpack, as some of you may recall.
This jetpack is initiated with a crouch jump + another jump tap before you hit the ground- once youve turned on the jetpack you will use your space bar to accelerate, and you will use your mouse to fly around. If you decide you want to aim other than the direction you are headed you would hold down your right mouse button and it will give you the normal range of movement under the assumption that where you are headed is your 90º (for-most angle as you look up) axis.

Now that vampires and humans are able to fly, it seems only fitting werewolves would too? No, werewolves dont have jetpacks or super-natural powers, but werewolves do have alot of strength and gripping power- which would make them suitable for scaling buildings. A werewolf could climb up a tower, and jump onto another and continue scaling buildings in this manner (Think of it like spiderman, minus the aweful choice of attire).

You want another unique aspect of this mod? How about the combination melee fighting system. Now this isnt like forward forward back back start select *Congratulations, youve collect 10,000 piece of fruit!*. It is more like doing a running crouch jump + the use of right click for a flying kick (if you were a human) or the use of left click, then right click, then both @ the same time for a left swipe, then a faster right swipe + a bite if you were a werewolf.

Now to limit the spam of combos there is of course the EP. Which is the Energy Pool. The Energy Pool is your universal ammunition. It's used for every attack, sprinting, and special abilities, all cost a variable ammount. Your EP can be increased, and the regeneration rate increased as well. These are passive abilities you can 'purchase'.

In addition to all of this melee fighting, there is something that I call a concussive strike, which nearly all melee attacks have. The concussive strike is a passive effect delivered to the enemy struck with a melee attack. This concussive strike causes a camera pitch, yaw, and roll, as well as a halo flash (try getting a friend to pop you in the jaw, you'll see it, maybe hours later, but you will see it). This concussive strike is enhanced with the Strength stat, which also affects melee damage.

AfflictedMOD is a futuristic Sci-Fi Action FPS/RPG hybrid involving the dynamics of a leveling system and unique abilities.
3 opposing factions fight for dominance of the known world and galaxy.


A little bit about the characters
Humans: Advancment through technology yield the human race a constant increase in power as knowledge is aquired. Use of this knowledge fortifies the human pressence of power. Advancments in energy weapons, defensive body armor, and extensive training are the prominant factors attributed to their strength.
Researchers of the Dark Sect. (a non-disclosed military prowess) have made significant advancments in the energy weaponry fields, and have utilized this advancment in the production of such weapons known as the Archer Ion-PSPC, the Zealot Dispatcher, and an array of light to medium tactile assault weaponry.
Utilizing heavy artillary such as the Ion-PSPC and Zealot Dispatcher has proven to be difficult under the use of standard militia- this problem was addressed and resolved by a revolutionary defensive-unit known as the Titan-H.A.P.A. (Human Assist Power Armor). The Titan-H.A.P.A. allows it's occupier to use heavy weaponry with high-recoil and often hazzardous periphrial effects effectively. The Titan-H.A.P.A. not only provides a shell of armor, it also has the ability to assist its occupier via. a C.A.T.S. (Computer Assist Targeting System) vGUI- which allows the user to itentify targets such as vehicles and Cov.Op targets with unique heat and ambient signatures.
But now the C.A.T.S. has another use upon the battlefield with the new threat, a modified C.A.T.S. will allow easy detection of the new hostiles using these same methods, but under new calibration.

Vampires:
It is known in history that vampires were allegedly sited during the gothic time period.
Many people passed vampires off to be the work of a lucid imagination.
Recently this was proven to be a mistake...
Vampires are best defined as the 'dagger', and humans to be defined as the shield.
A vampire will utilize their unholy powers to manipulate time, decieve the enemy, or to attack when least expected and suck the life out of their victims- syphoning their life energy and adding it to their own. Unique abilities such as flying, fright, time solitification, syphoning, pseudo ranged attacks are awarded to those who choose this class.

Werewolves:
Werewolves are the leadering aggressor in melee combat. Passive regeneration of life allows the werewolf to fall behind their kin to regain health and then come back fighting just as strong as ever- or even more strong with newly aquired abilities from the previous battle. Werewolves are the formost threat on the ground, and rarely will you encounter one alone- even if he appears to be alone. A werewolf is fast, powerful, and quite stealthy. Utilizing the unique ability to jump extreme distances and heights allows for quick retreat, or to close the distance between it and its' opponent to unleash a flurry of slashing and biting. The werewolf is not with out empathy towards his kin, and will help a sibling when it can, truely at pack animal. Werewolves may progress far enough along to provide assistance in a more indirect manor, with the 'Howl' ability. This howl ability increases attack speed, as well as running speed for any werewolf that is within the sphere of coherency.
 
Work towards vGUI, Mapping, Sounds, and Music is progressing, still need voice actors (If you got a set of PIPES you'd fit the bell! I need some one who could pull off a Marine fairly well. Other voice actors could be used for the vampires, the marine in the Titan-H.A.P.A., and if any one feels like they can pull off the voice of the Titan computer that would be good to. You will want to speak mono-tone and 1 word at a time for splicing to great an authentic dubbing of the computer com.)

The coder position is still open, for any one who wishes to join. Just an FYI We do have a coder, and will be hiring a professional coder (yes Im paying him, it's worth the money because of the quality that will be expected from this mod). Modelers are direly needed. Graphics artists, and a webdesigner is needed.
 
The only thing I'm good at is mapping. Urban maps, industrial, or suburban. Any type of map, as long as I have the textures and models needed to put in to it. I'm also learning C and C++ now too.

Please contact me on AIM. My handle is CalimawMAP. I will explain details concerning the map, ask for some screenshots of previous work and give you the low-down.

If you don't use AIM and you plan to join the team you will NEED to get it. This is the medium every one will be using- It's easier to keep every one on the same program so we dont have to download of that jazz like msn and yahoo or xfire.

(mIRC is used as well, and will be discussing the use of it for all members)

Just an FYI, Im a seasoned mapper and will be able to help you understand what you need to do and provide examples. Music and sounds are my primary.

If you're learning c++ you may speak with our coder for help.

ok now look. i got banned for about a month for triple posting. since then ive witnessed lots and lots of people triple and even quadruple post. this guy post six times one after the other. and noone even cares. im sure there is a conspiracey here.

I think this will be a great MOD.. It sound awesome. If I were a decent mapper I'd offer assistance, yet, I am a CS:S fy mapper. Which means I don't have a very long attention span.....and I forgot what I was going to say.

Do you have a custom FDG? Or how far along are you in the coding?

Vampires and Werewolves don't actually exist. They can shoot each other to pieces if a writer decides to add that to his (or her) story. I don't think you should really be picking me up on my reading.

No, no, no... He meant had you all actually read his description that you'd understand that each faction will be doing more then shooting eachother. Why are certain people in these forums so harsh. He's obviously put alot of work into his ideas, leave it be trolls.

I haven't slammed his mod in any way. If I wanted to do that, I'd say "Unfeasible", "Pointless", or something similar. The concept is doable, and quite easy to code.

What don't you understand about taking it to PMs... why don't you give me your IM handle so I can explain to you. I did not want to mod CS:S, and I stated it clearly twice in the thread. You keep shitting on peoples threads along with your buddy crackhead, you did it to mine, so I'll support others you do it, too. I think I've only seen one thread where you two have posted positive feedback.

i think egoncalo should be banned for being so annoying. im not a buddy of angry lawyer i just respect him as he helps alot of people with difficult problems and seems very experienced as a coder. you should have got your facts right before you tried to flame him. and you did infact say you wanted to mod cs:s. also he doesnt shit on peoples threads in the same way simon cowel doesnt shit on peoples music carears on x factor.
