After Vivendi announce HL2 gold, how long do we have to wait until we can buy it or play it trough steam?

It usally takes 1-2 weeks, but Half-Life 2 is a huge game so im just asking if anyone here have any clue.

hopefully 4 - 6 weeks...(world wide release...hopefully)

You could have easily found anwers from search, or just ont he next page of the forum, but;
After gold announcment, around 2 weeks guessing, basically time to make lots of copies of the CD's and get them shipped to stores (worldwide release)

Steam is likely to be released the same time as retail, however not seen any up to date information on this, but its likely.

Probably between two and six weeks. Maybe more. Hopefully "just" two weeks.

Didn't some mod at a Vivendi message board say that it could be in stores within two weeks or something? I can't remember the detail exactly, but there was a thread made on it somewhere.

Unless it was a comment from/made from a high up person at VUG (not the friend who's mum who knows the next door neighbour who cleans the VU janitors car sorta thing) i wouldn't believe it :p. Looks like it's going to be a world wide release (100 RC's sent to VU) soooooo who knows.

Here it is:

Valve has confirmed that they have sent a release candidate of Half-Life 2 to Vivendi Universal Games. If VUG approves this candidate the game will be declared gold and sent off for duplication.

Or to put it another way, barring any glaring showstopper bugs, Half-Life 2 is getting very close to release.

Don't drink and drive.

For 72 hours, VUG QA will test the RC for serious problems. If nothing serious is found within those 72 hours, the game will be sent to replication and could be sent to stores two weeks later. If, however, serious problems become evident, Valve will have to fix them and make sure they cause no new problems, and then send a new RC to VUG QA for AOK. TLA.

Unless, of course, my own experiences with VUG are drastically different from the special coddling treatment Valve are enjoying. Ah-hehm.

I forgot to add that the AVERAGE amount of RCs for a game is four. Some games have fewer, some have more, but to have the very first RC accepted is very, very rare.

hopfully they'll aim for a sept. 30 release so they can only say it was only a 1 year delay.

it depends on the localizations. if everyone wordlwide gots the us-retail, it will take around 1-2 weeks, around a week more with partial localization(aka translating subtitles) and much more with full localization(dialogues, gameplay changes).

oh, and i forget, if they plan a worldwide release, a lot ouf authorities have to play and rate the game before, so add another week for this.

so, best case two weeks, worst case, um, 3 months?

the fact that hl2 is such a big name can be good and bad for distrubution, the fact that it is big means lots of copies (could take lots of time w/ shipping) but also because it is so big it, multiple places could be making/shipping copies
