I am a n00b when it comes to airsoft guns. Having never gotten one before nor researched much anything about it I know very little about them. I am getting interested in buying one soon. I am looking for a pistol and did a google search and looked through a few sites and got lost. Not only were there apparently 3 different types(spring, electric, c02) but there were many other sub categories and all the guns seem to have a bunch of numbers and letters as their name and nothing I have heard of.

So...I am looking for an airsoft gun. I have plenty of money so it doesn't need to be some cheap POS. I need something with a bit of power and I would like it to have the weight of a real gun so it doesn't feel like some cheap plastic gun. I am so far looking into pistols primarily and couldn't really decide on any kind. I figure a glock would be pretty cool but I am no pistol expert and know of very few pistols. So could anyone recomend a good airsoft pistol and where to get it?

If you have a bit of money to spend get a nice gas blow back pistol (GBB)
Most gas guns are fairly powerful in the 0.5-1 joule range, magazine is filled with gas and 6mm bb's, slide actions as per real steel...makes for realistic and fun shooting.
KWC/KWA do quite cheap ones you can get a glock for £60 (whatever that is in dollars) they are quite heavy with magazine inserted (just short of real glock weight) and the glock frame being made of polymer dosn't detract from the realism being a polymer gun, there are aftermarket metal slides available for them if you really want realism (glock has a metal slide)

Marui gbb's are pretty decent, if you have large hands i recomend the desert eagle hard kick.
I havn't actually been on any airsoft websites for over 1/2 a year now so there might be some new stuff about.

I heard some good news today, Airsoft guns in the UK (Gas, Electric, Spring, Pellet guns) will NOT be banned in the upcoming Arms Bill.

WHERE DID YOU HEAR THIS!!!!"£"???

But wait........wasn't this what the government was trying to ban, since they are the most available replica?

I think they should just give up their pathetic attempts.

I was in a store looking at guns today, a major reseller for TM and Top was in the shop, I asked him about the law and he said he had some confirmation that only pure metal and straight replicas would be banned, not airsoft guns.

He was there to sign a contract for selling Electric rifles for the next 6 months, so I assume he was fairly confident with this information.

I just bought a Sig Sauer P229 at my local Sporting Goods store. It's a spring Airsoft gun. The slide is stuck right now... easily fixed but... I'm lazy.

I have tried both and i know my opinion rests with airsoft, as long as you have a large number of honest players.

Generally i see paintball as more of a sporty sport if you know what i mean, airsoft guys generally like the whole tactical thing, real weapons, more accuracy etc.
In paintball all the guns do the same thing near enough.

You tried both?

Press the slide release catch..... XD

Um, nope, it's most definately stuck. You must not think I'm that dumb.

Edit: Fixed. :)
Edit 2: Nevermind, it's broken... tip: don't buy an Airsoft from a Sporting Goods store. ^^

Where should I go to buy a good quality airsoft gun...one that wont get stuck? heh...Also with gas how quickly does it burn through it cause I don't wanna have to go replace it often.

I definitely agree. I'll never go back to paintball after running around the woods with a g36c and sidearm. When everyone takes it seriously it beats paintball hands down.

Try to find a place in the cities first, don't order them from overseas

If someone cheats in airsoft (and paintball) it completely ruins it.
Some of the silly arguments my dishonest mates had were annoying.

I'd alway give the person against me the benefit of the doubt if they say they shot me then they did, if they say i didn't hit them then i didn't....i'd rather be out the match early than argue, trouble is a lot of people wouldn't

I've been trying to think of a way to make airsoft hit detection easy and fair, if i found a cheap way i'd patent it and sell it.

collision detection vest...ie something that detects a high velocity small object vs a branch or a rock when you fall down for prone.

Anyways...im still un sure as to whether to go gas or spring. Does anyone have a good site that I can read up on about airsoft and also can anyone suggest a good vendor for them?

I am thinking I will be getting a glock but am still looking around.

You need to go gas, having to cock a spring every time is a pain, plus to refill the gas you can just run down to Gander Mnt. and fill it for a few bucks, actually, that's a good place to look for gas guns, I think I saw a gas HK G36C there

Spring are fun but comparing them to gas is like comparing a 4 inch cock to an 8 inch cock.....get gas if you can.

Please sir, I kindly request that you screw off. Comparing the two different sports is like comparing basketball and baseball. Or something. Just... shut up.

Glirky, I made a big list of inexpensive airsoft guns. Most of them are by one company, though. I usually link it to people who are new at the sport, cuz most people don't want to fork over $350 or so to get a high-end AEG (Electric rifles by good companies like Tokyo Marui, Classic Army, and ICS). It's at Arnie's Aairsoft Forums here.

If you have some cash to blow, though, I suggest getting a good Gas Blow Back pistol (or even a SMG), like shorty recoil said. My first real gun was a KJW Full Metal Silver M92, and damn that thing is so very fun to shoot. Cost me around $160 to get everything I needed for it (Gun, Gas, BBs, extra mag) but you can get GBBs for cheaper, even full metal ones. I just needed to have my Silver Beretta. ;)

If you don't want to spend lots of money, but still want a nice-shooting gun, get the UTG Shotgun. For $35-$40, it shoots great. Its a shotgun so that sort of explains the whole "spring cocking" thing.

Lookie my picture of me, my friend's, and his brother's collection:

85123831_0c9fc18f50_b.jpg

Top to bottom, left:
KJW Silver Full Metal M9 Gas Blow-back (mine) (~$130)
UHC Spring "Dirty Harry" Revolver (~$50)
HFC Mauser M712 Broomhandle Full Metal Gas Non-blowback (~$100)
KWA M945 Gas Blow-back (~$100)

Top to bottom, right:
TM SPAS 12 Spring Shotgun (~$170)
CSI AK-47 AEG (~$100)
UTG M970 SOS Spring Shotgun (mine) (~$35)

By the way, if you get a GBB pistol or SMG, and it is compatable with "Green Gas" then you don't need to buy that gas over the internet. Just get this little nozzle from most retailers that you can put on the top of $2 propane tanks that you can get from the hardware store. Green gas is the same thing as propane.

Erestheux, my collection pwns yours, your friends and his brothers collection combined, and mine don't have the orange tips :D
Nice looking guns btw

Alright. I think I am going to stick to a sidearm for starters...a decent one though. If I go gas do I have to carry a tank in my pocket or is the gas in the clip with ammo in there as well?

Funny this thread should pop up.

Today I ordered my first electric gun that I plan to do some amateur playing with. The UTG MP5 A4/A5. Probably the best idea for someone who wants to get into airsoft and doesn't have all the money in the world, it's an amazing value for what you get. Look around online, you will find prices from 100-110 US dollars, which is amazing for an AEG of this quality.

But if you have more money, (300?) you could get the higher class version by Tokyo Mauri.

If you plan on playing, you usually want to have an AEG (electric) primary weapon and a gas pistol as a secondary.

I'm no genius on the subject but this is what I have learned in a couple months of interest. Take Erestheux's advice over mine if he says differently :p

Glirk: The gas goes in the clip.

The magazines for GBBs hold usually more than 2 mag's worth of gas. Like I said in my post, as long as the gun is compatable with Green gas, you can get a propane adaptor for MUCH MUCH cheaper. One propane tank should last you a loonng time.

Find out what style of Pistol you like, and do your research from there. (Desert Eagle, Sig Sauer, M9 Berreta (<3!!), High-Capa, or something old fashioned like the Mauser) I suggest the HFC M9 (full auto full metal version!), the Non-blowback Mauser, or maybe the WE High-Capa.

Haha, nice shorty. Me and my friend are both poor college kids, so we don't have all that much to spend on airsoft. Sucks, too, cuz we have no where to play and no one to play with us. I envy that collection, though ;)

The magazine will have enough gas for AT LEAST the rounds it can hold (if its a gbb, non blowbacks store the gas in the gun)
My KWC GBB's hold about 3 or 4 mags worth of bb's (or more) of gas.
With gbb's its better to have a few spare mags rather that fiddling reloading constantly (talking skirmishing here)

NBB's usually have MAGAZINES that you put the gas in, just like GBBs :D At least the two I've seen...

What's in your collection? I lurve it! You look like a sniper fan, and the Lugers are loverly.

Edit: I said clip instead of magazine OH NOES

Umm a few of the things there arn't airsoft....it's my whole collection of guns (swords and knives are a different matter :) )
Few air rifles, co2 pistols and air pistols there...couple of the things there have gone now as its an old pic.

But the airsoft are as follows:
Marui AK-47
KWC m16 spring (with upgraded spring and home made hop up so i can snipe with it)
2x Kwa gas blow back ingrams complete with a total of 4 magazines and my own double chest holster ......these babies are awesome akimbo max payne style. (although highly untactical)
GBB Glock 18c (select fire)...fun
GBB glock 19 ...good side arm
Springer luger...cheap shit but some funny games involving that including a legendary headshot whilst playing a nazi.
Springer s&w m4505
Sig sniper rifle, bolt action....used to be v acccurate hop up rubber failed so it's pretty crap now.

Everything else is non airsoft.

What's that mauser c96 in your pic?

Damn lucky people and Airsoft. Everyone here who plays airsoft will only let you play if you are over 18.
Guess I stick with paintball for a few years. Then I get a sniper rifle...!

i play cs:s, its like virtual airsoft with blood !!! (doesnt know jack about guns, airsoft or otherwise, wants to fit in... *cries*)

I love airsoft. And Redwolfairsoft.com is great- until you get to the shipping price. I live in east coast US, and the cheapest I could get for a simple GBB M9 was like forty bucks!

EDIT: Hahaha, Qon, I just realized you bought the airsoft version of the Compact. You're my hero.

Alright I have been looking around. I was interested in the KSC/KWA g18c but it is pretty darn expensive. Should I shell out this kind of money or is there something cheaper that is also pretty good? I don't plan on using this to play airsoft...just a gun to shoot shit around the house and look cool with.

Gas also sounds a bit touchy. I was reading up on a maintenance guide. Perhaps a spring gun would do?

Also I am still at a loss of a decent vendor, best places around here that I am aware of are wal mart and other crappy places.

I'm buying an airsoft AK-47 in a couple of days hopefully, haven't fully decided yet :D

utg is making a copy of the mauri ak-47 so if i were you id check that out...

Alright...I think I am going to go with a spring glock. Whether it be g17 or g19 I don't really care. I want one with weight yet can't seem to find one. I don't really feel like shelling out $100+ for a gun I am just gonna shoot stuff around here with. I don't have any plans to go out and play airsoft.

Can anyone find a good quality spring glock that has weight to it? I have been searching all over and can only find plastic models. If there are no glocks like that then are there any other good spring guns with weight to them that I should get?
