It's about time we do this. What's everyone's pick?

My tentative choice:

Clark - Totems Flare

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

This post will get edited a whole lot

Flying Lotus - L.A. 2X3 EP

I really just continue to find good stuff from the 80's and 90's... the only album's from this year that I own are the The E.N.D (Black Eyed Peas) and Life Starts Now (Three Days Grace).

And I would get yelled out for saying either of them, so **** you all.

Tentatively I'm going to say Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca. The new Akron/Family album was also great.

edit: Actually, Bitte Orca comes in second. I just remembered that Bluetech released The Divine Invasion in early 09, not late 08... incredible album.

I would vote for Kaleidoscope from Tiesto but no one will agree.

Either way, it was a change of face from the usual Progressive Trance that Tiesto did, and it worked very well.

Grizzly Bear- Veckaimest
or
Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavilion

****ing 2x3 was late '08. God damn. I'm going with the Warp20 series. I'm allowed to do that, right?

If not, Born Like This by DOOM.

Dream Theatre - Black Clouds and Silver Linings.

either this or Sonata Arctica's new album - The Days of Grays

is it just me or do most of these post your favorite music threads just end up with people posting what they like and just ignoring everyone else?

Shpongle - Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland

Chooiice.

I'd have to go with the crowd and say the Merriweather Post Pavilion/Veckatimest double combo. Absolutely brilliant albums from both AND OH MY GOD I'M SEEING ANIMAL COLLECTIVE LIVE TONIGHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGH

They played here two nights ago

And I missed out on tickets

**** my life, I'm serious.

... some good choices.

Drama Junkie Queen (Billy Boy on Poison)

ThemCrookedVulturesCover1-300x297.jpg

I have 2 choices, either

Five Finger Death Punch's War is the Answer

or

30 Seconds to Mars: This is War

both completely different but very easy to hear lyrics and almost perfect music

Probably Trans-Siberian Orchestra's 'Night Castle'. I've listened to it so much lately (probably because I'm seeing them on the 29th :p ), but it's amazing.

i just bought that and its rather awesome

Sparks, Nutrocker, and Toccata - Carpimus Noctem are easily the best 3 on that album.

Only album I can remember from this year is:

flaming-lips-embryonic.jpg

Well, the actual album Embryonic, not the EP, but this cover is cooler

A few weeks ago, my friend told me, "You're going to laugh at me for this but I've been listening to a lot of Sonata Arctica lately." I was like "Who's Sonata Arctica?" I looked at their myspace and started listening. At first I loled. Then I had to turn it off. Blech.

Anyways, I can't think of anything I really liked this year. I like half of Do Make Say Think's Other Truths album, but that's only two songs. I guess Fanfarlo - Reservoir came out earlier this year, but I could probably get tired of that pretty fast. Motel Motel - New Denver came out too but I only liked 1/2 tot 2/3 of it and it's kinda fizzled out.

So this year was mediocre. Just like last year. Sigh.

Ah, I didnt know they had a new album out, thanks for posting this. Listening to it right now, and its nothing less than what I have come to expect from them.

Grizzly Bear- Veckaimest
or
Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavilion
Definitely these two.

And to add:
St. Vincent - Actor
Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
Andrew Bird - Noble Beast
A.C. Newman - Get Guilty

I can't really decide on just one album, so I'd say these are my favorites of the year.

machinariumsoundtrack1.jpg

An entirely fantastic album by Tomas Dvorak that deserves all the credit of an independently released work. I love the music so much that in the days before release I would play the trailer on my iPod just to hear it. And now long since completing the game, the soundtrack is still one of my most regularly played albums. Even if you have no interest in Machinarium itself, I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of ambient electronic.

Otherwise, 2009 had little that interested me. Though to be fair, I put no effort into looking.

Easy, I'm going with Obscure Band Nobody Has Ever Heard Of.

Hmm, there's been a lot of good albums this year although I've probably got to go with Arctic Monkeys - Humbug.

You gotta be fackin' off your rocker to think anything in here is obscure.

My album of the year is easily And So I Watch You From Afar's selftitled. Mindblowing. Even better once you've seen them live and then listened again afterwards. So good.

dunno really, the antlers - hospice is worthy of note, so too are the big pink - a brief history of love, phoenix - wolfgang amedius phoenix and girls - album

other mentions include pains of being pure at heart, mumford and sons - sigh no more and slow club - yeah so

I had a chance to see either Mumford & Sons or Slow Club at sxsw in March (they were playing free day shows in different places at about the same time). Ended up going to the Slow Club show. It was pretty fun. Album is good but not my favorite.

I originally thought the Fanfarlo album would get annoying after a while, but it's actually getting better with each listen. So I'm going with that one as my favorite.

I'm pretty sure my friend/kinda neighbot Ron has some kind of involvement with Pains of Being Pure at Heart. His band, Nord Express, used to be on the same label.
