Alien Swarm?

Anyone gotten a speedrun yet? Friends and I have been trying, HOLY CHRIST you have to go fast. There is literally no room for error at all.

This.

My buddy and I attempted a speed run on the first mission. It was our first try, and we were expecting to fail. After crossing the finish line, we were both pretty disappointed that we had gone one second over TWICE the target goal. O_O

Tried to get through the campaign on insane with friends, but we gave up in the biomass map. God damn it is infuriating. :p

I haven't tried insane yet, but once you hit max level even hard isn't that difficult.

Insane is a whole other beast. Forget what you learned in Hard. My friends and I made it through Hard with bullshit loadouts when we realized it was cake. Insane is just damn near cheap.

My friends and I spent about 2 hours working on speedruns today and we only got the first 2 missions. You need at least 2 people with chainsaws to take down doors (hacking is too slow) and whoever is tech needs to be super fast.

There is ZERO room for error. The elevator mission was so goddamn hard to speedrun.

Insane is fun, and super hard. Takes real strategy and loadout coordination.

To deal with infestors, have someone out front with a flamethrower. Once they're on fire they're harmless. Also shock armor is helpful on medic and stick together so the medic can heal you if you get infested.

Shield bugs = tesla stun and get behind. Flamers are useless pretty much, you need your minigun dude (or a very dedicated officer with vindicator) to take them down quick.

sounds like a blast, we need to play next week when I get internet ennui

Damage Amp + K80 PDW's all around is much faster, a door is leveled lickety-split. If you use the chainsaws, grab the PowerFist... it will increase chainsaw damage 2x.

Yes, I've been doing speedruns.

I'm on the final map of Insane, breezed through the other with an insanely talented guy(He had all achievements in the game I saw on his steam profile at the time too, with over 60 hours spent in the game!)

Sadly he wouldn't accept my friends request.:(

It's really sad that he managed 60 hours on a game that takes a couple hours to beat and came out a week ago :(

Hard isn't actually that difficult, especially if you have three other experienced companions, but Insane has earned its name.

Bit judgmental, eh? I mean, if he wants to spend his time on that, why is it sad, if he gets enjoyment out of it?

I far prefer he spends 60 hours in a week playing Alien Swarm than say 60 hours in a week making childporn or some shit.

Yeah childporn maker is the worst job. Such gruelling hours, too.

Prolly not the best comparison. Nope.

I'm just saying that Alien Swarm as it stands is just a minor experience for free not justifying spending one third of the time between its release and right now. I mean the game is fun, but there's one campaign with seven maps that take all of 10-15 minutes to complete. I just think there are better games around that are more dynamic and have more to experience. I don't have many games where I've spent more than 60 hours in the entire game. 60 hours in a week is more than I spent in WoW at the pinnacle of my play time... and of course there's a lot more to experience and enjoy.

So yeah, I don't think my statement is that harsh. I just can't even imagine playing that game for that long in that short amount of time.

That was kinda the point.

I see your points too however and I am inclined to agree with them.

I've spent 20 hours in it though.

What does that make me?:(

Beat it on easy...can't believe that was easy mode...though I did keep the beginning AR the whole time.

The beginning AR is still pretty effective on other difficulties... (well maybe not insane)

There's not really any excuse for not playing on at least normal. Oh wait, yeah there is.

PUBBIES.
