Alienwares new ALX system

fricking overpriced. Until they intergrate that dual-PCI express vid card soltuino, there's nothing special in there,. 'cpet they'll overlco kit for you and keep it under warrenty.

and 21$ for a netwoprk cable?

One rant. Alienware suck...i could make that pc for half that price.

Edit/ The only thing nice about them are the cases...other than that, check above.

I wondered about there overclocking kit. It looks pretty nice from the screenshot. Just slide up a couple of things and its overclocked. Pretty nice. But yeah I am waiting until Alienware comes out with PCI-Express

But it got nice looking case... case... it worth additional $2000.. right?! AM I RIGHT?!

Even so, I saw a demonstration of the dual cards...very impressive.

you're not right. looks means nothing. can build my own watercooled machine with higher clocks than that for probably less than half the price. throw it all in a black lian-li PC6 or something, turn out the light and what does it matter what the case looks like?

Looks great. Alienware is always ahead of the game.
But what does ALX stand for anyway?

nothing, just makes it look more appealing to noobs.

Well, it would look more appealing, to me, if the acronym actually stood for something.

you really have a strong hatred/grudge toward Alienware dont you...

They look great, but they are too expensive.

Too expensive? What do you expect to pay for a machine like that? I think it's rightly priced. If that's too expensive for ya, then look at their lower-end rigs.

I'd rather build my own one, for less with same specs but not ass uber looking.

Point is, they're too expensive for a web-based PC company. Everyone's trying to let everyone else know that you can build a system equivalent to that for at most half the price

$2000 at most if you built it yourself.....it IS overpriced and IS a rip off....even new people to pc's can build their own without a struggle...i did, the only bit i was clueless to was installing windows but other than that, its basic common sense.

Yeah, I doubt you'll be able to build something as great as the almighty Alienware. Maybe something from their lower-end models, but definitely not anything like the ALX. Especially if you are on a $2000 budget.

Uhm seriously, 4.9k for THAT? I could probably build that for around 2.0k-2.5k.

or save $3,000 by building your own, which unlike this rip-off ALX, would come with a monitor and speakres.

Alienware is already huge ripoff. ALX is the king of ripoffs.

alienware has good support.

they have overpriced computers. i can go to newegg, grab all those components, build them in a better looking case than that ugly ass one. for ~2500. support isnt worth that much. besides, i dont want any gangly acne scarred computer technician touching my baby.

the newb reference is true. who the hell else needs to have games installed for them... what a stupid service. CHECK OUT MY LEET RIG. IN 8-10 WEEKS LETS PLAY SOME CS SO THEY CAN INSTALL IT FOR ME :( :(

trash.

But will you also have the Personalized Support and the liquid cooling technology that Alienware has?
If you can indeed build such a machine, I declare you the ultimate Yoshi-killer computer builder.

Yeah, from what I gather it's just all of these components:
AMD Athlon 64 FX-53+
ATI RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition
1GB Corsair XMS Dual Channel PC-4400 DDR SDRAM
148GB (74GB x 2) Western Digital Raptor™ 10,000 RPM - RAID 0
Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy 2 ZS

With the CPU and the GPU water cooled with their own propriety blocks, hoses etc.

And raid 0 isn't even that great. If you're a gamer it's much better to use them beside eachother and not in a RAID array.

so im paying an extra $3000 for tech support that I WILL NEVER USE?

sounds amazind :| :|

Liquid cooling = water cooling, which I already have.

So I R teh ultimate then?

I doubt it...but you could prove me wrong.

User Name-"Get to work, now!...There's no time to be spent, you need to build this Alienware-killer gaming PC with a $2000 budget! Get the crackin'!"

MaxiKana-"But I can't! :( ...I need a few more dollars...Can I get some more dough, pretty please?.....Now how do I get that thinga-ma-jig into that whatchya-ma-call-it while still maintaining a cool temperature!? Damn, this PC building experience sure is tough!...Alienware is GOD. I QUIT!"

*And that concludes the fall of what-was-to-be, the Alienware-killer for a $2000 price tag, by MaxiKana.* :p

Meh :p My watercool thingy cost around 200€. Doubt it would cost more than 500€ for a top of the line version. Anywya Im heading to bed now nn.

Haha, I see which idiots buy their products now.

Is that directed towards me? If so, I doubt I would be an idiot with that much money.

Sharp, but there are a lot of spoiled kids out there with access to such money, and they are not, by any chance, are smart. Point is, if you spend so much money on a damn computer, which comes without monitor/keyboard/mouse, you are an idiot in my eyes. Now my eyes are nothing special, so you can do whatever you want with your money, but I tell you one thing, expensive doesn’t mean better than anything else. If you can get something of the same power for much cheaper prize, why not?

Lemme tell you this...I'm not a kid and I'm not spoiled.
I do agree with what you say about getting a machine with the same power and cheaper price, but...one thing...if you can find a machine with the same power and cheaper price as the Alienware ALX, you let me now.

ummm, just buy all the stuff and build the comp urself... i would think that would be cheaper....

wow, that wasnt hard :)

Okay, I will build you one for $500 less than the alienware price and it will have the same performance. ...Lets see, that gives me a profit of $1500 to $2000 if I don't shop around for the best price.

The main feature of the ALX line, is that it is supposed to have 2 video cards. That feature won't be available until Q3 of 2004. So right now, you are buying a computer for the name alone.

If your still interested, contact me, I would be happy to build your an equivalent computer for $500 less than what alienware is currently charging.

:)

Will you also give me 24/7 tech support whenever I want it? I also found this on the website.

High-Speed Downloads: ALX owners get “front of the line” privilege for all the latest demos, patches movies and more.

So will you also pay for my subsciption?

tech support?

"OMGz... my comp is b0rken... can you help me PWEEEZ?"
"Thank you for your call, all of our operators are busy, please hold while we find someone who can tell you to stick the ****ing restore disk into the drive.."
(not sure if alienware uses restore disks, but anything you call tech support for can be fixed just as easily by looking on the net.)

Yes, because the chances of a high end part breaking down on you after it is built is practically 0. I would definitely take the risk.

Mind you, it would be actual tech support questions not questions about windows. Plus, it would only be for a year like Alienware's.

[edit]: For 2 grand profit, I will pay for a year's subscription to fileplanet and ign.com.

:)

holy crap username, i thought you were being sarcastic. if i really wanted to i could go to newegg and get them buti have a concert soon. just trust EVERYONE else here, the alx is a rip off. the warranties on the manufcatured parts are way better than 1 year of alienware shit.

you couldnt make that dual video card solution even with 5,000 dollars. supply and demand. alienware is the only one who makes it. :(
