I'd say it's because you've had an information/media overload of BF2. Now the last thing left is to play the damn game. We know so much about this game there's hardly anything left to learn which kinda takes away from the hype.

I don't care though, I sill can't wait :D

Ive been rationing myself on those vids, but mainly cos i have limited bandwidth. I am so amped about this game it's not funny. AND, i got a headset today, so im set.

Ben Smith is answering questions. Post #52.

Two tidbits.

No specific word on the demo. "Soon" seems to be the word of choice lately.

The BFTV feature sounds like it's only server-side but you can choose to d/l the file at the end of each round. You cannot record singleplayer games because they are not dedicated server games.

EDIT: A bit of new media as well. Low Detail movies at IGN for those out there that don't have the powerhouse rigs to get medium or high.

awesome thanks a ton Amish, you seem to always be on the forefront of BF2 media, even when I sit there refreshing all the BF2 related sites all day... which makes me wonder how much more dedicated could I possibly be!?

lol, I just happen to check at the right times. Either that or I'm at work with absolutely nothing to do but refresh sites.

I'd say I spend about a couple hours a day just searching up info for games I'm looking into when they're this close to release. This is only during summer though when I have very little to do when all my friends are at classes or work and whatnot.

EDIT: More updates.

Join 24.86.30.104:8767 teamspeak server. I don't know all the details but there's some guy in here answering a bunch of questions. It's all regulated, you have to pm an admin of a channel to have a question asked. It sounds legit and I'm listening to it now.

IGN has some new vids up that show the game on low settings. Still looks great. <LINK>

Argh, my bad. I just woke up; that's prolly it. But maybe this is new: Bossman posted the BF2 read-me file on the TotalBF2.com-forums.

IGN FAQ, most of the stuff we know, if not all, but meh... might be some who don't

yay
Q: What about this Commander Mode I keep hearing about, where one player can see the whole map and stuff and order people around?

A: Well, one player will be voted as Commander, and he'll have to divide his time between playing the FPS portion of the game and the top-down Commander map. In this mode, you can order airstrikes, do a radar sweep of the whole map (the results of which only the Commander can see), fly in a drone spy plane that temporarily reveals local activity to all players on that side, drop supplies, and set markers for locations you want attacked or defended.

yay, voted in :D

GameCloud Battlefield 2 interview

http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=258

Gamecloud - After the release of the game are there any near-future plans for expansion packs or free official maps?

Ben Smith - With Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam, we released a number of updates with new features, vehicles, weapons and full maps. There were also two expansion packs built for Battlefield 1942. We are committed to support Battlefield 2 in the same way that these titles were supported. Well be able to speak more in detail about these plans after Battlefield 2 hits shelves.

Gamecloud - How does the new ammo penetration in the game affect how players operate on the battlefield?

Ben Smith - Basically, certain materials are penetrable to gun fire, meaning you can shoot players through a wind shield with most weapons or even penetrate the bullet-proof glass of an attack helicopter cockpit with a high caliber round. There are also tin-sided fences that players can be shot through (assuming you know that they are lurking behind).

Q: Can I bunny hop all over the place?

A: Nah, it's more of a Counter-Strike setup. More realistic movement, although I have had people do a jump-dive combo on me a few times. Some people think they're Spider-Man. Then I blow them up with a grenade.
HE HE Ace

yeah I love that they tweaked the infantry combat, I can't wait to play this game damnit!

muhahahaha !!

its looks amazing , cant wait for the demo :(

one thing that REALLY bothers me about screens I have seen....
http://media.pc.ign.com/media/677/677882/img_2846315.html
they could have used more than 5 polygons for the damn bullets on the M249 that looks horrendous. what an eyesore. what in the hell were they thinking? next gen my ass, lol

Maybe that's because they will move if you fire?
that's no excuse, none at all.
I haven't seen low polly bullets on a gun like that since... since freaking OPfor for Hl1.
Look at CS:S bullet chain on their Machine gun, looks good and moves.
it's not really a bother to me though, I don't plan on playing support... it just simply boggles my mind that something so visual (something that is seen at all times on the gun) was something they decided to cut polys on...

I mean look at these bullets from the previous version... it's BF:V for crying out loud.

http://www.planetbattlefield.com/imagebfv.asp?/bfv/game/armory/nvaweapons/nvaweapons/nvarpd.jpg
and on the M60 from the same game:

http://www.planetbattlefield.com/imagebfv.asp?/bfv/game/armory/usaweapons/weapons/m60.jpg

both guns had moving bullets, and brilliant animations.

compare those old models from BF:V to the "new" one in BF2

This game is far from next-gen, the only thing that really looks quite nice are the player models. Everything else is rather standard.

here is an illustration of what I mean, for those who don't see it. (although I can't see how you could miss it)

and yeah Axyon, it's not by far, I know.. they just refer to themselves as having a next gen engine in a lot of interviews, so I was poking fun.

http://img155.echo.cx/my.php?image=icky2tb.jpg
it's just so glaringly low poly, it's something modelers used to do way back in quake 1 and Hl1... to conserve polys, this is simply mind boggling.

to some it might mean nothing, but to a modeler it will be instantly irritating.

Wow, that is a lot different to BF:V. I wonder why they cheaped out like that.

Wrong!

You're right, it really is a step back.

Those pics are from an old build tho. Maybe they've perfected them now?

you don't Unwrap a model, then texture it, then model it.

the model is completed first, and then you unwrap it (make the skin template on which a texture artist creates the texture) and then it is skinned.
unless something has changed, it's a bother to go back and change geometry after the other steps as it creates errors in the UVWmesh/skin.

the only excuse would be is if the model was a placeholder, and no in all videos and screens I have seen, it's the same.

I meant to mention this long ago, but I was swept up in the rumors of demo release.

that pic I posted is not an old build, it's from the set of latest IGN pics, but feel free to look at any pics of the gun, they are the same.

The less polygons, the better. (well for me atleast)

I scrolled thru a couple of pic-pages on TotalBF2.com, but I could only find square bullets on machine-guns.

Same here, rather minuscule detail tbh.
as I said, most people will not notice, but if you are a modeler/even the least amount of modeling knowledge, this is glaringly wrong.. and really aesthetically displeasing.

think of it this way, if you have good grammar and spelling and it takes no effort on your part to take that little bit of extra time and effort to ensure your grammar and spelling are correct.

then seeing someone who simply has 400 word sentences, spelling mistakes everywhere, etc.... and english being their primary language.
it might not bother a lot of people, but it's going to bother you, it's such a simple thing to take care of.

as for people who want less polygons on their weapons, that's fine.. however there is/should be a geometry option for those who need performance and would gladly sacrifice graphics... I am not one of those people.
having square bullets opposed to round ones seem to greatly detract from my immersion.

Well let's just hope that they were placeholders, Everyone has five/six-week old copies. Either that or "M249 Bullet Chain Detail" was set to Low.

;)

They're not placeholders, since IGN has retail copies and their latest screenshots are taken from them. It's just something we'll have to deal with :/
