I been around this fourm for about 9 months now, and I always hear things like "Oh, people will mod that into the game. or "modders can have a ball with that." Well, I think it's time for all of us at HL2.net to have a database. Everyone take all the little mods that they plan to ACTUALLY MAKE that make the minpulator throw buildings or the iRifle in HL1 or have you replace the g-man with Mr. T....and post them here. (Serious thoughts only) Discussion about soon to be mods and total conversions is cool too. That way, when HL2 rolls around, we'll have a place where we can look at all the cool addons that people are making that will make HL2 fun until the internet is obsolete.

One things that would be essential is a program that acts as a hub for all the little mods, so you could turn each one off and on at will. (Think like the "Choose Customized Game" in Max Payne 2, only better and the ability to have more than one on at a time. I dont know if this is even possible, but i'm sure some talented person could do it.

Lastly, if HL2.net actually catalougued these and posted them on the site it would ensnare them the title of best HL2 site on the net. Face it, this site has the most minds, so lets make the coolest stuff!

Post away.

Word to your mother.

Ok~ I'm thinking of a GTA mod that models some places in real life. Except this ish wouldn't be 3rd-person, but a pwning FPS. Yeh, heheh. Except I'd have to learn how to make a mod before I could do anything. I think I'd first master the game of HL2, then I'd beat the shiz outta all the MP games, then I'd make a mod when I'm bored. Or wait, all these other games like Killzone, F.ear D3 all shiz ll b out. I WANT HL2. I WANNA MAKE STUFF.

I think there should be a mod called "HL2 addons" for all the little fun tweaks want to put in the game. Make it so you can check off in a menu what tweaks you want at the time then play the game. Tha'd be neat.

That is sorta already what Valve planned to do....

EDIT: www.moddb.com <- Mod Database.....

EDIT AGAIN: Some of the things you're asking for such as the switchable mod thing is in the original Half-Life....and having multiple mods out would probably consume too much memory...

yeah but moddb is confusing and this way all the HL2 SP/MP/TC/other junk can all be in one awesome place.

I like your idea Hiln...but it'd have to be rereleased so often that it'd be better to have a dynamic program that sneses newly installed mods and you can turn them on and off at will. (possible? any coders out there?)

I think that dynamic program is called Steam.

:bounce:

well no, fore example, when you add a custom model in for counterstrike, steam doesnt know about that. I'm talking about a program where you could controls mods that are WITHIN HL2. (mr. t, in stead of the gman, hippie combines, manipulator can pick up live people you know what im talking about) Just like a checklist or something simple. Steam controls all of the total conversions and full blown mods (Firearms, SC, etc)

if a mod could sticky this and make it official that be (ala office space) great......thanks a bunch

Like mutators in the Unreal games?

GTA: Just when you thought you couldnt have more fun!

I was hoping for some kind of Halflife: RTS mod pitting Resistance Vs combine or something along those lines. There could be a commander on each side that would place down building that could pump out combine soldiers or resistance, ability to research upgrades etc. Although there could be many modes including 1 v 1 with AI units or full games with real players as your soldiers. The possibilities are endless....

The HL2 engine is not built for things like that..

I'm working on something titled 151.

just like the HL1 engine was not built for space combat. i pulled it off quite nicely :)

Wasn't there a mod like this for Quake 2.

It was Strogg Vs Strogg and Resource collection was as easy as grabbing energy crates but it was cool none the less.

Perhaps thats another thing I'll attempt to do when I get a bit of coding know how.

A mod plugin system for HL2.

A mod plugin system seems like you just need a set of batch files to move/rename things around....

Not sure the only Quake 2 mod I played was Gloom a sort of Marines vs aliens type mod. You could build things, and make your own little minions. It was fun for awhile until I moved onto bigger and better games.

The Strogg vs. Strogg thing was called 'QuakeWar2'. It was actually a very, very good mod, and the current inspiration to the mod that I'm being a one-man mod-team to. Or something. Expect some Xen vs. Combine RTS action soon enough.
