Seriously?

For the past 10 years, i have gradually but surely lost all trust and hope in the governments. If this is the freedom that democracy supposedly grants us...then democracy is an extremely flawed and outdated system.

I use Linux-based operating systems. I somehow feel safer that I can grab the source code for most of the software installed. :E

Agreed. Way to far.

That woman has a horrible voice. Also the guy at 53 also reminds me of the guy out of "my name is Earl".

I wonder if anyone in Obama's family ever downloaded an MP3. Shouldn't his daughter be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars?

You can't escape breaking copyright law anymore. Everywhere you go, everything you do. Singing a song in at work? Copyright violation. Playing the Happy Birthday song at a birthday party? Copyright violation. Get sued. Have a photo taken of you with a logo or painting behind you? Copyright violation. Use your phone to video record your daughter playing at the park when someone in the parking lot is blasting their stereo to a copyrighted song? Copyright violation.

It's absolutely ridiculous. Copyright law needs major reform. In the mean time, they can kiss my ass.

THIS
Seriously, I find about two thirds of my playlists and favorites on youtube removed due to copyright violations.

yeah a warning is one thing, but to blatantly search someones PC is really going too far. How would the President like it if random people searched through his computer. He'd probably kill them

Representative, two-party Democracy is flawed and outdated. But i think its the best system anyone has at the moment.

This is what happens when you regularly illegally download files. The iron hand will descend upon thee.

The iron hand is stupid and needlessly unfair. Punishing people with hundreds of thousands of dollars of fines for downloading a few songs is ridiculous.

Not only is it grossly unfair and disproportionate to the crime, but those kind of harsh sentences (and "harsh on crime" sentences in general) do nothing to deter people from committing these crimes for one simple reason...

When people commit crimes they're not thinking they'll get caught.

So much about the government by the people, for the people, of the people. My ass and you should realize that. They are so much tied up with corporations and influential interest groups it's not even conspiracy funny anymore.
And i've got enough proof to believe that (for my gov of course, probably the same in the US if not worse).

The democracy system we have today is more suited for the 19th and 20 century. In this information age it is really outdated.

The republicans/neocons might be a bunch of idiots but at least some of their principles are praise worthy.

its also sad to note that another trillion dollar deal is about to be made with almost no Democratic voting whatsoever. once again "Democracy" is only in the select hands of the few and millions of Americans are left waiting for their elected leaders to voice their concerns thousands of miles away. I wish we could go to the polls and vote freely on this

Honestly, you shouldn't worry too much unless you have something to hide. If there's nothing illegal there they can't bust you for anything. Sure some may see it as an invasion of privacy or whatever, but I'm sure the government is already ignoring that.

just like wiretapping is ok SO LONG AS YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE

just like non warrented search and seizure is ok SO LONG AS YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE

just like the patriot act is ok SO LONG AS YOU'RE NOT A TERRORIST

funny how people just willingly hand over their rights

Im sorry, but how dare they enter MY home in any form.

Its completely a breach of privacy. Its not like its a case of national security or whatever bullshit excuse they come up with next week.

Fine, **** it, ill just encrypt everything and argue my case in court.

I have nothing to hide really. Everyone has songs they havent bought though.

Its the fact that there are personal files on my PC(s) that nobody but I or whoever I choose has the right to see or know that theyre there in the first place.

My thoughts exactly.

It's always a certain group of people that advocate this as well......

I have plenty of things to hide. Most of them are perfectly legal I'm sure, but I still don't want people searching through it all. It's not okay. People need their privacy to stay sane.

Really? So it's okay if they spy on every aspect of your life while they're at it? Wow, this is the worst comment of the decade.

Right, because for George Wiretap Bush, or 'The Maverick', this would have been out of the question. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Couldn't have said it better.

I've heard that in the UK you get a couple of years in prison for refusing to hand over the encryption key. So, no that won't work.

We must fight this Chinese 'democracy'.

^ you obliviously don't what group of people I'm talking about.

What ?

This bill is being pushed by groups like RIAA and MPAA, Now who do you think runs those groups.

Oh my god, coupled with my signature that was just the worst thing ever.

You know that it doesn't help the cause when people who look like Richard Stallman do video interviews. Keep him on text or radio good God.

Excellent, I just so happen to have a fresh bag of hot buttery popcorn next to me. Do go on and inform the world at large what it is you propose as an effective, contemporary and expedient political alternative?

Technically, the US is a Republic, not a Democracy. Not that it matters...just a nit-picking point.

Bad by association.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The Democratic Republic of the United States of America.
The Democratic Republic of Congo.

I think this report is sensationalist. I doubt this treaty will work.

Pretty much. I wish we weren't so apathetic as a people (yeah, this bill is in the US, but the UK will have stuff like this soon enough).

The Democratic Republic of the United States of America.
The Democratic Republic of Congo.

The country's formal name is "The United States of America"

those other countries' names are correct.

The USA's government TYPE is a democratic republic. The others I don't know enough about their internal government if they are truly a democratic republic. (DPRK obviously run by Kim Jong Il but I dont know how the local politicians conduct day to day business)

From The Onion: "Republic of the Congo: Hey, at least we're not the Democratic Republic of the Congo."

That makes me feel very sad.
One day the world will be about as close to perfect as can be, I'm almost certain of that. But the chances of it happening in my lifetime seem slim. Sigh.

You won't fool me that easily. Your banana republic will get its comeuppance!

We need to get Project Chanology interested in this.
