Alternative to death sentence or life imprisonment?

The death penalty is inhumane (IMHO) and a waste of tax-dollars. I mean, if it takes at least 10 years to put the murderer to death, isn't that defeating the purpose of the death penalty (purpose example being: hes too dangerous to keep alive)?

no death penalty. Life in prison for extreme cases. No cruel and unusual punishment, unless it is "community service" for extremely minor offenses or "rehabilitation" for people with curable mental/physical disorders.

Alot of people where I live are talking about rediculous, horrifying things like blinding pedophiles and branding them with letters. This is not puritan new England, this is the United States, and our justice system is based on the constitution, which explicitly forbids cruel and unusual punishment. This includes putting signs outside of pedophiles homes (which is already legally being practiced) In my opinion, such barbarism is unconstitutional and should be banned.

That's a pretty tough line to draw. The way the legal system works over here, if it's word vs. word, nothing gets accomplished. Whats to stop someone from kidnapping a person, bringing them in their house, then shooting them under the premise of "He broke into my house, and was going to kill me."

Wait...that sounds like a solid plan....

as for the actual topic at hand i'd stick with life imprisonment for serial killers and a modular rehab program for other offenses. rapists and pedophiles would receive acute attention because they share a similar sociopathic mindset with serial killers.

I say we cordon off a major city, preferably New York, and dump all of the offenders there to fight it out between themselves. If the President of the United States just happens to be flying over and gets shot down then we'll just have to find a bad ass to rescue him, or if it's George Bush, find a new president.

Practical alternatives: Forced labor. Lots of it.

OR

Forced military service, like the 647th special warfare command unit. (Guys who were traied to go and get Kim Il Sungs head and bring it back) Unfortunately, 647th didn't work out that well, as they turned there backs on their country and went on a rampage in the mainland.

Unpractical alternatives: Reprogramming. Takes too much money, imo.

Brai- "Education".

Actually, I'd rather see murderers work their asses off for eternity.

Except traitors. They might corrupt the other criminals with their viral philoshophies. So just kill 'em..

Oh, that crazy numbers.

Back to the chaingangs, eh?

Theoretically you could save a lot of, 'Tax Payers' money if you kill the criminal right after he's been proven guilty.

Right, because proof is always total and right in a court of law.

Not exactly the most just thing to do, killing someone.

You're going to be confused, but thats exactly what I was hoping someone to say Jintor.

A reasoning killer's lack. It's no suprise that in exchange, we would lack the patience.

Ah, right. I forgot all about Einstein's great theory of "two wrongs make a right". How silly of me.

It's not about patience, it's about the irreversibility of it. Hell, I'd rather have you kill me right now than wait 10 years in a shitty prison cell and then kill me. However, when you kill me right now, you take the risk of killing an innocent.
