They are ignorant to the fact that he IS more than he appears, boy thats confusing lol.

Actually, Eli made referrence at "Black Mesa East" on how Gordon looked practically the same age as twenty years ago. I don't have the exact text on me for sure, but he does end it with "How do you do it man?"
