Alyx's martial arts...

Let's not compare them with the Iraqi insurgents, Narvi. These people have noting but stolen, mostly russian weapons, suicidial attacks are often, few of them have battle training, and the forces that drives them to violence are very different.

In HL we have a whole community of people, united after a common cause, a cause for freedom. All racist, religional and political diffrences are long forgotten. The remnants of our species are very well bound together, organized, but they lack the equipment the Overwatch forces are abundant with.

Does this whole motivation thing make the rebels better trained? Because insurgents have religious and patriotic motivations to fight, as well as actual training camps in certain cases. They still get slaughtered.

It's lucky that the same Iraqi insurgents don't have the equipment the coalition has, or the tide will be different.

It sounds stupid to compare things like real human tragedies of war, with a computer game. We're sitting cosy here at home playing HL while these people are duying out there (both sides).

From my experience, it seems that Combine Elite > Combine Soldier > Rebel > Metrocops, which is reasonably realistic. In any case this is a game where fun is priority #1 for the developers. It would suck if you arrived in C17 only to find that the rebellion has been slaughtered and that you have to wage the Street War all by yourself like some '90s shooter.

Yeah, and we can't compare the situation in the game to what fascist governments that existed in history did either? You have an emotional response to it if you like, I like seeing parallels in it. :/

It's fairly comparable anyway. Insurgents are generally armed with AK-47s (or AK74s or whatever variant you like) as well as RPGs and a few light vehicles armed with some mounted weaponry in the back (what did they call those? Halftracks? Trailers? Something anyway.) The AK-47 is a pretty reliable gun, and with the proper training it can be lethal. The difference wouldn't be very great if it was an M-16. The USA has armour support and a much greater mobility. Even if insurgents procured US body armour (unlikely, since the US doesn't maintain supply caches in city) their lack of cohesion and training and armour support would lead to them being shredded.

Fairly familiar, but seeing as this might raise a flame war, I think I'll drop it. I only brought it up in the first place because I dislike seeing arguments (even silly ones) being dismissed over feeling it's silly. It's an hl2.net fansite. Silliness is encouraged. :p

(In fact, I'm not sure why the Resistance won so much. Sure, I suppose you could have begun the uprising by sabotaging and striking Overwatch positions so that they were unable to coordinate a focused counter-effort before the vast majority of the city was overrun, but the Overwatch still had their main C&C and supply center active at all times. They should have crushed the resistance easily with artillery barrages and superior mobility, as well as combined (hah!) armour support. Meh. Just a videogame.)

Most of us don't know the truth about the real war, it's what they want us to know. "They are the bad, we're the good, over". It's not that simple. And the slaughter of innocent women and children, it's not something apropriate to compare with the HL world.

War is fun only in computer games!
End of me talking about this.

Oh, right, and I said that war was fun and games.

The HL world is a place where genocide, horrific mutilation and crippling occur. Off-screen, of course (otherwise it's torture porn). It's not exactly a universe of fun and games.

Seems we both were a bit drawn away from the theme of the thread, and since i think i started this, i apologize.

She never did any martial arts for me in either EP1 nor EP2.

Give them both equal armaments...the rebel owns.

Themonkey: you could get her to do it by luring a zombie REALLY close to her.

^Actually it's like this^

Not for me...in Anticitizen One my rebel squadmates always beat the shit out of the Metrocops that populate the first half of the level, but start getting slaughtered without my help once they start going up against Soldiers.

They're called 'technicals'.

'martial arts' is not the right word. She's very agile, she can do some very impressive cicks on the zombies, but nothing too fancy as karate. It's very fun watching though.

The technical word is "Dynamic Scripted Sequence" :cheese:

/runs away

Yeah, she beats the crap out of all the zombies that attack the shed in Under the Radar.

I have yet to see this,I remember her bashing them in the head in the hospital with a shotgun, but 0 hand to hand

I also only just noticed that feeding barnacles poison headcrabs kills them. Too cool!

Give a barnacle a antworker, shit goes boom and they both die

^ they die in a cool way of yellow-greenish goo splashing all around, which just fills me up with joy lol

Yeah the barnacle bites the worker, it explodes and kills them both.
