am I better off buying a PSP or a Nintendo DS?

Reason to get a DS (I recommend this option): Fast easy to fire up games that are fun and entertaining.

Reason to get a PSP: If you like the extra easy ability to store movies, music, photos and a web browser pick this option.

I own a PSP and my brothers getting one too. I still recommend the DS to everyone else though. If you want a portable gaming machine go the DS nuff said on the matter.

Unfortunantly, i hear it has the battery life of a dead ant.

I get 6 hours out of mine + car charger/USB charger. Not that I use it that much per day if at all. What battery life does the DS have?

I got a PSP mainly becuase I like the Jap developers that produce games for it. Stores actually sell that sort of stuff down here. Now if I walk into EB or any other joint down here I'll only find Mario and other annoying games for the DS. I want a mature storyline dammit. That and the following;

Lumines - Simply an awesome simple and addicting puzzle game
Ghost in the Shell: Stand alone complex
Tales of Eternia - Nice RPG
Metal Gear Acid - Card game lol
Mercury - Gotta love the blobs of metal
Coded Arms - Nice FPS
Bleach 1&2 - Generic 3d fighter, but I like bleach

This won't end. It can't!

Unless of course Samon does in fact pull a gun...or lays down some bans (a lot of bans)...or just closes the thread with a fascist sequence of keystrokes/mouse clicks....

Here are some things to think about in regards to the thread topic though:

--Cool people buy a DS
--Cool people buy a PSP
--Cool people buy both
--Cool people buy neither

--Friggin idiots buy a DS
--Friggin idiots buy a PSP
--Friggin idiots buy both
--Friggin idiots buy neither

--Republicans buy a DS
--Republicans buy a PSP
--Republicans buy both
--Republicans buy neither

--Democrats buy a DS
--Democrats buy a PSP
--Democrats buy both
--Democrats buy neither

--Gamers buy a DS
--Gamers buy a PSP
--Gamers buy both
--Gamers buy neither

See what I am getting at here?

So how's this little war going? I left because it's just like any polarized argument where neither side really wants to approach anything with a Rogerian style so it's almost completely senseless to argue.

And I'm sorry for my bad word usage. It's inexcusable.

Just buy a pad of paper and a pencil. Endless fun with games...well until you run out of paper.

DS is getting it's own version of Opera Mobile, and previews of it have been fantastic.

I personally have been all about DS since I was able to get one. Love it. I was jealous of PSP owners in the begining, because it seemed more capable. But if I REALLY wanted to, I could get a movie player that gives DS all the functionality (save for graphics) of a DS for less money.

I think that PSP tries to be this jack of all trades system, but in the end loses touch with what makes a handheld a handheld. Case in point UMD movies. Brilliant in Ideas, but not so in execution. UMD sales have been horrible, and many studios are pulling support. I'm not making this up.

With that said both systems due have a slew of excellent titles in the works, and both have been doing phenominal (as of late the DS is the world wide leader due to the launch of the DS lite). So don't count either out.

As for the DS battery life question. For DS Phat (original)I'd say >10hrs. It will get more if you don't use the back light (which I don't recommend) or play only GBA games. DS lite has an adjustable brightness for it's backlight, which severely effects battery life. Maximum brightness gives ~6 hrs, but this setting is really only usful when in sunlight. I can't comment on a lower setting but I'm sure it's max life is similiar to that of a Phat.

I finally killed my DS Lite battery after 14-15 hours of use on the lowest brightness settting (which is perfectly visible unless you're in the sun or something). I'm not sure about the setting(s) between lowest and highest.
