Amazon date assure conflict with Doom III

According to that Doom III and Half-Life 2 are set to go head to head competing for sales on the same day. I can see the carnage now, respectable Half-Life fans armed with crowbars fighting gothic gamers armed with spiked collars and chains attached to their pants.

But really all these dates are confusing, is it in April or March? It's certainly not going to be released this holiday season.

I'd say retailer's dates aren't to be trusted, but then again all the way through to the run up to September 30th they were all right in saying it wasn't going to make September.

I've noticed that people on the HL2 forums flame the hell out of Doom3 fans, but people on the Doom3 forums are much more tolerant of people with differing opinions. I think as a whole the HL2 scene is alot less mature than the D3 community.

i'm actually liking D3 better than HL2 right now.... but i still like HL2 and want to see what kind of revenue they can rack up and see them compete is awesome! BTW... can u point me to a D3 board that is like these?

very true, i aswell am liking Doom 3 more then HL2 becuz the hype has died down from anticipating it so much. now the Doom 3 has a sure Date im looking forward to that game the most. i will likly buy Doom 3 then HL2 when it gets cheaper around when the X-Box version comes out.

Maybe the respective games attract gamers who have played the original? Like, HL1 fans may be younger in general than Doom series fan, perhaps. Anyway, they're going to be (hopefully; I better not jinx it or anything) great games. The best thing is how both games are set in interesting respective universes; one in the Black Mesa scenario and aftermath, with the invasion of the Xen creatures while the other is in on the moons of Mars fighting the hordes of Hell.

Both feels so tasty, right now. Mmm...

Good point, over at the doom 3 forums they're really excited about HL2 as well. There's also a lot more open disgussion of the two games, rather then arguements about which is better. I've learned more about HL2's weakness's and strenghts there than here.

But I still love this community more.

u wanna know why this is true? okay.. HL = recent game that became a must have almost instantly.. and i shouldn't even have to mention the all the mods that started from HL..

now Doom series.. quite old.. while still popular.. its not remembered as well because its "way back from the day" so naturally HL will have a much younger fan base.. see where im heading here?

Indeed. I think another major reason for the lack of maturity among HL2 followers would be Counter-Strike. Now, I dont need to tell you how immature a great deal of the CS community is, and it stands to reason that more than a few of them would be following HL2 closely.

I personally think Hl2 will be better, alot better. So I'm going to buy Doom3 on ebay about a week later, that way i don't end up spending £60 in one go.

HL2 and its fan base = mainsteam

Therefore the D3 fanbase will have more people with the attitude "Both games will have good and bad parts, and I'll buy them both"

My sediments exactly. Doom caters to an older crowd, mainly because it came out much sooner. Not looking at much of an age difference, but 5-10 yrs does quite a bit for maturity.

Thus, Doom 3 players will tend to be more mature then the pre-teens/teens/early 20's that play HL.

I for one will pick up both titles, being a fan of the original Doom series, and of HL's modification and story line.

i agree they do look fantastic and a little bit better then HL2. physics while im not sure cause i haven't played them tho im sure Stalker and HL2 beat Doom 3's im physics and immersivness. stalker looks like its the kind of you game where u live in it whenever you play it. but it wont be out for a couple months after Doom 3 and HL2

Since you haven't played them, you can't be sure about physics and immersivness either. Especially immersivness is something you only find out by actually playing the game.

Having played the D3 and HL2 leaks, I can tell you that D3 is by far the more immersive game. Seriously, it scares the absolute shit out of you!!
