Amnesia: The Dark Descent Gone Gold

Download is live on the Frictional Games website.

played the demo and damn it was good, the part right at the end sure got me tensed

Nice. Downloading now. CANNOT WAIT! Too bad I have to leave for work in 10 min. :(

Wow that article made me even more excited for the game.

Also, Steam is now decrypting the files for my game :D

EDIT: Yep, I can launch the game now! Gonna go play for a bit...

Well, I caved and grabbed it, a mere 2 hours before unlock.

I am going to regret this.

Whew. Played for an hour, this game is great. I really like how they designed the castle around somewhat of a hub area, making it easy to backtrack to older areas if you need to.

ooooooooooooooo im giggling like a little school girl

Playing now. This game is the new standard for all future survival-horror games.
The gameplay is simply awesome. The guys at Frictional nailed every single aspect of what horror games should be.
Is this an indie game? Oh no, this could be a mainstream game, published by EA, Ubi, 2K or whatever.
Alan Wake, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Space: Amnesia could fight with this games, and win.
Frictional, keep up the good work!

56 minutes in two separate play sessions. Considering I probably haven't even gotten to the actually scary parts, its going to be a long, sporadic trek to beat this game. Once I get to the good stuff, I'll probably be down to 10 minute sessions. I have practically no endurance for this kind of horror.

Awesome game.

Heh, I'm also exactly 56 minutes in, Krynn. I stopped right at the beginning of an area, because I just KNOW something bad is going to happen. Its been built up too much for something not to happen.

Pant-crapping imminent.

I've managed to die once so far. Room I was in only really had one hiding spot and I was not in it. Thing came around and said hi.

Have played for a while tonight. LOVE it. Really amazing storytelling and unparalleled atmosphere. VERY scary is many parts and unsettling in the rest. This will definitely be one of my highest praised games of the year.

I am just now at the part where

you have to fix the cave-in to get further into storage/get the elevator machinery working. Man, after the race to escape that thing in the water, arriving at the back foyer or whatever was SO peaceful and pleasant...not to mention well-lit! :p

Finished it earlier. There are three endings, there are minor differences between them but just make sure to get the head is all I'll say. Not bad for 6-7 hours worth, although I much rather enjoyed the wandering around parts and not the OMG dude around that corner parts.

Well played it for 3 hours straight last night. Took my time and stopped just after completing the hub area with the lab, wine cellar etc.

I had a funny moment in the library section. The game was forcing me to go back through this large room, but monster noises were coming from there so I ran back quickly and hid in a closet. :p Later went back to find that there wasn't anything there...

So far I've encountered 2 monsters, and I've remained stealthy both times. Haven't died at all so far.

I'm... not getting it. I'm really not getting it, and i'm sad, because I so wanted to. Played the demo: clunky mouse controls, hideously dated and amateurish graphics that obliterate any chance of believable atmosphere and immersiveness for me, and simple platform puzzles. Either the demo isn't demonstrating the full potential of the full game, or i'm too old and gore hardened to be anywhere near remotely scared of scooby doo. It's not for me. But I doff my cap to the developers for getting their hard work to the gamer, an impressive feat in this day and age of corporate monopoly - and hopefully an inspiration to future devs...

Graphics are fine for an indie game, if anything they're stellar for a $20 title, but there are some dated textures here and there I'll grant you. Mouse controls are good for me, so I'm not sure what could be the problem there, maybe try turning up the sensitivity? Perhaps they're meant to be a little sluggish to simulate character movement, but I haven't noticed. From what I've heard the puzzles aren't the game's strongest suit, but I find them quite satisfying so far. Trust me, when your adventuring is punctuated with the groans and screeches of the undead (or whatever they are), you'll be more concerned with just getting out of there than with scratching your head over some obtuse riddle or something.

Anyway, if it helps, I didn't find the demo very creepy either, and I'm normally a huge wuss about horror titles. The full game, however, is an entirely different story. I'm about 2 hours in at this point, yet to even encounter my first beasty thing, and I've already had to put it down. The game absolutely exudes atmosphere, turning you into a nervous wreck with just a sound, and yet it compels you to go on (literally, at that - making progress and solving puzzles soothes your character, increasing his sanity).

But yeah, your mileage may vary, just giving you my experience so far.

Yeah, I don't really have any problem with the graphics, I think they're pretty good, actually. Any shortcomings are more than made up for by the immersion of the amazing sound design, really great physics and innovative world interaction. The demo has some decent scares but they are nothing compared to the full game, and there's a lot more story development than is hinted at in the demo levels. Also, the demo also doesn't really have any puzzles to speak of in comparison to most of the game. Most of them so far have been pretty well designed and intuitive with decent variation, although a bit too easy most of the time.

The game is really terrifying, far surpassing my expectations. It really is unparalleled in that regard; no other game has ever scared much, so consistently.

I stopped at 56 minutes too o_O

also this game is awesome, yet scary as hell.

Gonna play this tonight, or friday. I'm trying to set up a free night for it, in which I can stay awake as long as I want. But I most likely won't get through the first hour. :(

I am extremely proud of my progress so far. Mind you, I haven't finished it yet...

I would of liked the option to fist fight the monsters, or use random objects to defend yourself, Condemned style...

Yeah, I want to break a chair over it's head, and cut it with a broken bottle! :p

Or better yet spill that lantern oil all over it then light it on fire. So many possibilities.

My point is that this whole "you can't do anything LOL" does add to the horror, however it's not realistic by a long shot.

Then go play Condemned. This game isn't a game where you're supposed to fight things.

Same but you would lose. Those things are ruthless. I would not try with anything less than an axe. It would be impossible with anything you could find. The monsters are very strong and your character quite weak.

This game also needs iron sights and a cover system. Oh oh, and don't forget quicktime events!

That's the point. These are supernatural monsters, there's no chance to survive a fight with a lovecraftian creature.

i was just playing the bit where the invisible thing in the water hunts you, and when i turned around to close the door it hit me and i screamed so loud i woke my friend up that was sleeping beside me.

"wtf?"
"sorry, go back to sleep"
*exit game*

i just got the wine cellar key and i regret playing it already.
