as far as i'm concerned at the moment, amon tobin is the best thing since richard d. james. i halfheartedly aquired the album bricolage randomly at the suggestion of a friend who listens to similar music, and it was unbelievable. i've since then gotten supermodified and out from out where and i have to say that amon tobin is some of the coolest and best ambient/intelligent/whateverthe****youwannacallit electronica out there.

discuss?

i totally agree. supermodified, along with his debut album Cujo - adventures in fome, were among the albums that first got me interested in electronic music.

Heard of amon tobin before, never checked him out though.

Minutes Later...

Just listened to Stoney Street in it's entirety on Bleep.com, and am now halfway through Easy Muffin. I'm definitely going to have to get this album, and more, one way or another.

Edit - I'm loving this cloudy, aged atmosphere in the songs. Thanks for recommending this.

i still feel Bricolage is my favorite so far. very surreal, eerie songs - the feel reminds me of RDJ's ambient work, but with more finesse, activity, and a little bit of jazz in it.

I've had trouble getting into his other albums as much as I have Supermodified, but man, I love Supermodified. Four Ton Mantis still stands as one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Amon Tobin is excellent. It's one thing make your tracks relying on synthesis, but it takes a keen ear and some exceptional skill to mix, treat, morph, and mash up all those samples into your bitches and form something so unique and exotic.

So far I only have Supermodified and Out From Out Where. Well... I used to have Supermodified until I lost it. Gotta pick it up again. "Marine Machines" is my favorite track on it, and probably my favorite one in general.

What I like about Amon Tobin is that he's experimental, but taps into that Big Beat vibe just enough to attract people otherwise averse to the IDM genre. Basically, you can play it without getting funny looks. Hell, they'll probably like it too.

Was going to start an Amon Tobin thread but I found this so... BUMP. This guy is awesome. I had the pleasure of seeing him DJ a headline set at a festival in front of shitloads of people in July, and his set was fresh! Anyone heard the Chaos Theory album?

Whow, I love his work, I used some in Slap Dish

My favourite is Slowly, then comes Searchers

I'm listening to him at the moment matter of fact.

I'm indecisive at which album I like more. From the three I have (Bricolage, Supermodified and Foley Room), I just can't choose. If I absolutely had to choose one, it'd probably have to be Supermodified. The overall tone of the album and the tracks within are so wrapped up in its own majesticness that carries you away as you listen. That being said, Foley Room does have my favorite Amon Tobin so far, At The End Of The Day. Bricolage is so slouch, though; it's the Geogaddi of BoC.

Suggestions for the next Amon Tobin album I get?

Out From Out Where and Permutation are both really good, but I would get them in that order.

What he said.

Out From Out Where should be next.

yeah amon tobin is good stuff. only heard bits and pieces though, i may purchase an album soon

Think I might try and pick up Out From Where as well at some point. Lets say the artwork from the CD of Chaos Theory I purchased got lost in the post, and upon checking the album out it's actually the soundtrack to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. I had no idea before last night hahaha, just thought it was another studio album. Anyway, point is... GET IT! There's some of the fattest riffs around and although I've never played the game I imagine it would be a contender for soundtrack of the decade.

haha it's kind of awesome that you thought it was an album and didn't realize it was the game's soundtrack, but understandable. i need to get that and his first album (adventures in foam, iirc) and then I'll have all of them i think. at the moment i have five of his albums and i love every one of them.
