Unfortunately we are not able to bring you performance numbers based on titles such as Half-Life 2 just yet, but come September 30th the release of the benchmarking demo will allow us to do just that.

Actually Gamespot said that. Hold on, I will find the link
Valve remained tight lipped about Half-Life 2's release date at this week's press event. However, Gabe Newell, Valve's founder and managing director, did note that the Half-Life 2 benchmark program will be included in the box when the software does ship and that it will be distributed to the press on September 30......

If you have read of those issues you know these guys are reputable and serious about their work. I would view Anand as a reputable source.

see, i was right, no one said what i was refering to.
the poster i quoted, said that "Don't forgert that they said that the benchmark will be released the same time with the game launch....."
see, no one ever said they would release the benchmark on the release date of the game, they said two seperate things.
1) the benchmark will be released ons eptember 30th.(probably only to hardware sites at first)
2) the benchmark will be included in the game when it ships.
see, nowhere does anyone say the benchmark release will coincide with the game release.
Taken in combination, these two bits of information make it doubtful that the game will ship on September 30, Valve's announced release date.
