Well since HL2 info is pretty scare, I was thinking we should come up with good mutliplayer gametypes for HL2, so what you guys got?

not sure how it would all work out and such.. but in theory, a neat idea anyway
LoneDeranger said:Ok I got one. There are two teams. One is the "terrorists" and one is the "counter-terrorists". The terrorists can have weapons like AK-47, while the counter-terrorists can have like M4A1.
MINDA said:Something tells me the modes included in HL2 MP would let u select between the Combine and the other doods, rebels or watever u wanna call em. And they will prolly just have, DM, TDM, and things like, Infiltrate bases or blow something up, or steal something. I cant really think of any new game modes that VALVe might be using. Its a mysterious mystery of unknown mysteries. :O
Would be fun, launch a trashcan off someones face. Would be chaos with alot of people though.Cutey_Kaite said:I think a cool mod would be just an arena with a bunch of crap lying around, and u can use the manipulator only
Imagine the possibilites

Ive also had a similar idea for a mod for quite some time. except the way i thought about it, would be more broad than the standard round based multi player mods. i would want my bank heist mod to progress how a sp level would. it would be a lot like the movie heat, and i would also have the bank robbers only have one life. cops would spawn for a couple rounds maybe in pairs in squad cars, and actually have to drive up to the bank, and eventually once enough cops have died, perhaps 8 of them could roll up in a swat van (their weapons could become better as they spawn). The criminals will be heavily armed (like heat: m4's, galil's, AK-47's, etc...) and have kevlar, so that they could survive for some time if they worked together. as i said before, i would want it to progress like a level, maybe the first part would be to get out of the place and get to an escape vehicle. at this point, if the criminals failed, perhaps it could be like a save point, for the sake of a continuation in the mini story. they could then have to make it to some hideout, or maybe even to a parking garage with a helicopter waiting for them on the top. once again, it could "save" when the get to the garage or skyscraper, and then its the final fight, when they have to fight their way to the roof, and try to get away.Chump said:Nother idea, not quite as complicated as the last one but kindof a spin off of a retrieval type mode.
Cops and Robbers. Bank Heists. its a small group of highly powered, elite bank robbers with all there gadgetry and stuff Vs. lots of The fumbly police guards with there batans and pistols.
Robbers only get one life, but security guards get infinite lives per round. To give variety to each match there is a large number picked (based on how many players) for how much the robbers have to steal for that round or possibly how much they must steal for all of the rounds combined. After the robbers get to the safe (which should be easy against weak security, they have to protect the safe while the others stuff loot into money bags. As more and more money is stolen, The bumbling security spawns as Swat team, FBI, and so on, kinda like GTA.

I really really like your idea from your first post on this thread (The Mideval Seige mod).
I think that we should maybe even open a separate thread to further explore this idea. Your original idea got a little strange by the end and it was funny (to me), but I think a realistic Mideval team based seige game would be incredible, especially with Source's physics engine and the use of big clunky interactive objects used like catapults w/ boulders, or big castle doors that can be smashed away.
It would be really interesting if the castles could literally be made of individual, breakable blocks that support players and other blocks, but could be smashes down and fall on people.
It should definately be a team based mod with 1 team defending and 1 seiging, but catapults and ladders (like in LOTR: Two Towers) could balance the gameplay.
Think of playing a 32 vs. 32 player seige game and be swinging swords and spears rather than firing AWPs and MP5s.
To make the combat not always be close range, the game could use realistic long range weapons like bows and arrows and the above mentioned spears that may be tossed with the click of the secondary attack button.
Maybe, even have the game have horses in place of vehicles....
The source engine could probably handle flung arrows stuck in things to remain either throughout the whole round (as 2D sprites) or only 500 maybe in the scene at a time.
I don't really know.. I just kinda got all those ideas when I read Six Three's post, and it occurred to me that while I've been thinking about new game modes for mods, a realistic mideval theme hadn't occured to me.
This post started out as a message to Six Three (who's name I've weirdly said a bunch of times so far in this post), but now it's to the rest of you too, maybe we should open a new thread for this idea if enough people think it's a good one.
edit: knowing that HL2's crowbar is physically simulated, a sword or spear could really not be that hard to manage with HL2's source engine.
CrazyHarij said:Altough I'm a big fan of gorefest nonstop instagibbing everything, it'd be kinda fun having an MP mode where you're supposed to cooperate with your team with manipulators to stack stuff onto other stuff and making a big tower and being careful so it doesn't fall down (there's an IRL thingie of this, don't know it's english word hehe) and the higher you build before it falls down the higher score your team gets...
After your teams turn it's the opposing teams turn to do the same thing and meanwhile you guys spectate and talk strategies for the building/stacking process..
Would be fun imho.

Ive been thinking about something like this the past few days in school
You got a big map, City map W/ ever player for him self. It has to be very dark, kind of Splinter Cellish in the lighting aspect, maybe darker. There are a bunch of NPC’s (Michael Corleone types) randomly scattered at a bunch of points on the it. Everyone has a contract. The suspense would be great. Weapons can be purchased from a location or I guess it could be like a counterstrike buy thing. You are penalized by killing a random player by having a bounty on your head. The more a random person is killed the higher the bounty until someone gets him, which is incentive for everyone to go after them. Obviously much of it is based on stealth and suspense but it would probly have a fair bit of action. I think there should be some sort of tracking system, that also makes you more vulnerable when using it.
Point Systemmap. You talk to them and they give you a job to kill a random player. Think about
1.)The more consecutive people you kill that your given a contract to the more $$ you get.
2.) The selection of who you (whoever you are) is to kill is not completely random. The more points (kills) some one has they have a higher percentage chance of getting a price put on there head. For example, Nikolai Zherdev is 18-1 he has like a 33% chance of getting a bounty on his head. Robert Kron is 0-7. He has a very small percent chance of having a bounty put on his head.
3.) You are penalized by killing a random player by having a bounty on your head. The more a random person is killed the higher the bounty until someone gets him.
4.) more stuff needs more thinking
Lots of things I haven’t really thought of, but I think that players that have the same contract should be able to work together. I don’t know if it would be continuous spawning of players or it could go round by round, or both modes could be thrown in there. It also seems like it could be kind of slow but there are of few things that could speed it up. I guess contracts could get to you via an intercom of something, so you wouldn’t have to go back to someone to get a contract every time I also don’t know if what time period it would be, Futuristic industrial looking, Right about nowish, WWII (just kidding), or even could be like a mafia thing.
I dunno. Sounds pretty fun to me. (well duh i thought of it I’d probly try to mod it, if I had any Idea how to do any thing with making games.

That'd be really messed up...Sparta said:I think i remember reading somewhere that the physics system is coded in a way that, if someone dies, the physics will play out differently on every computer or something like that. I think thats what i read
