Anybody here into JDM tuning?

Exactly. Stock cars being driven on the street have no need for them.

yea, you're right, but it's just styling, like non function hood scoops and fender vents on the mustang. Spoilers increase drag, so they're normally pretty small from the factory, like the G35:

picture whore*

but ford is slowly fixing that problem:

I meant giant aftermarket park bench style wings. I've always held a belief that if you mod a car, then it should have a significant impact on track times, whether road, drag, or rally tracks. Giant wings on an otherwise unmodified Civic do absolutely nothing. If the mod costs a greater percent of the cost of the car than the percent increase in performance, then it's not worth it.

There is a big difference with or without a spoiler at highway speeds. Well, at least I notice it if I'm behind an 18 wheeler - without the side parts of the spoiler, the back of the car will rock back and forth forcefully. Therefore it's going back on.

EDIT:

You can see what I'm talking about (the 3 piece spoiler) here (same spoiler, but Not my car. Mine's a hard-top):

Yes, I'm the same. If it doesn't increase performance I don't want it. I do kinda want a body kit though, but there's only been 1 I've seen that I actually liked. I won't get one though, I've got more important things to buy.

My car has heated seats and a 6 cd changer...all I need.

I've got a 1994 Fiat Uno. As far as cosmetics go, the doors have an artistic corrosion icing on them and the rear bumper has a unique dent in it. The rear right shock absorber is loose due to decay, therefore I will remove it and ride without it - I like to keep it raw.

Also, the rear mirror is fixed in place by a sponge stuffed behind it, making it point at the couch in the back, rather than through the back window. However due to some reflection physics laws which I'm not sure I comprehend, on a sunny day the reflection of the rear couch is a background for the actual reflection of the view through the rear window. It's not often that you see such a solution in a car.

Moreover the speakers in my car, hooked up to my Sony sound system, have a bass enhancement system causing them to enrich basses with a satisfying "BVRRRT".

I'm happy with my car.

That's an ugly brick of a car. Did you actually choose it or was it a gift you didn't feel you could bring back to exchange?

Yeah, I was never a fan of the Scion box shaped cars. Frosted's actually looks alright though. The color and the trim, plus the white wall tires make it tolerable.

White wall tires? That be the chrome lip of the rim man.

It was both, I choose it and my parents paid for it. Its not quite done yet so its in its meh phase.

There are some truly nice ones that are done up really well.

TBH, I will ALWAYS hate the way those looks...but I can respect someone who does it right, still.

I love scions. Especially the first gen-XB's. I'll post up a pic of one I really liked as soon as I can find it.

Maybe I can't enjoy show cars....I love cars that look sexy and can move what they show. I've never seen a fast Scion.

It doesn't matter if you put $9,000 dollars worth of plastic and metal parts screwed to it, you think that makes it look better? Holy God...that's - I've never seen such an ugly car. Looks like it got hit with the short bus and like a dozen midgets are going to come pouring out of it.

Take that shit off and put it back to stock.

Frosted's actually looks decent because it's just got normal wheels and a decent color. That black one looks like a retired circus car, restored by a midget crypt keeper.

Plus, vehicles so low they can't even go over a bump? How useless. If it races on a track, win, but 99% don't. They just sit and look pretty.

LOL, the orange one looks like a box on wheels.

But when the zombie apocalypse comes I'm riding with Frosted, this thing somehow strikes me as a car made for such situations. Dunno why, really. :p

Its called air ride suspension.

Most boxes that low have it since its really the only suspension that allows a box to get so low. Also, its only so low for shows/photos, and raised up for driving around.

This is the most "performance" mod thing I have (adds like 20 horses ya dig.)

Is that what the advertisement said? 20 horsepower? Heh. If that was the case, don't you think Toyota would have just put a similarly designed exhaust on themselves?

Engine(s) 1.5L 103 hp (77 kW) - 108 hp (81 kW)

Think you're going to get 17% more power from a larger exhaust from the catalytic converter back? Or is that just a muffler only?

Toyota carefully tuned the stock exhaust for drive-ability. Probably tuned to give the most power in the 2K-3.5K RPM range, where the engine will spend most of its driving time.

A larger, freer flowing exhaust allows more exhaust to flow; allows more air and more fuel to be burned.

So while that exhaust may allow up to 20 more Horsepower (a peak value chosen from some chart at a very specific RPM), that depends on what other parts you have installed to take advantage of that freer flowing exhaust. Things like a high pressure fuel pump, larger fuel injectors, larger air intake - all of which will throw off the carefully tuned fuel map (computer). They should still improve performance, you just might be running lean or rich.

What that exhaust does by itself is lower the drive-ability in your daily commute and in traffic. It sacrifices the torque in the 2K-3.5K range, and allows more HP at very high RPMs, like 5.5K RPM to Red-line.

It looks nice and has a finish that may never rust, but stock exhaust and mufflers don't usually rust for like 25 years anyway.

The only reason I got me a cat-back, is the sound. Stock exhaust doesn't really have that "rotary tune" very well.

Mazda kicked some major ass at getting this 1.3 liter engine to it's max power. A little bit more from tuning *Damn you emissions!*, but nothing huge. Around 200 WHP. I miss having a turbo :(

97-01 Integra Type-R had them....

Ah, yes. Slip of the tongue. No "NEWER" cars were sold with them.

In Cali if you engine swap you are restricted to only putting in a newer motor. There is no such thing as a legal Type R 92+ civic.

Yeaah....there's lots of reasons I'm glad I'm not a car enthusiast in CA... *Shiver*

Damn. I want to put a test pipe (remove the catalytic converter) in my car. ****ing laws and shit. ****ing pollution and shit. ****. WHY GOD? Why must you restrict my horsepower with your chemical wizardry?

Take a long sharp stick and just scrape it out, that way it still looks like you have a converter, but you really don't.

Yeah. The diameter of the pipe is too small to mate with the larger downpipe though.

I could get a larger catalytic converter and hollow it, but it's illegal to replace a catalytic converter here.

Also, lazy and broke. (Probably related).

OH, but I could paint it rust color! Dunno if they have high-temp rust color. Oh whatever, I don't really care these days. I need a lot of other things.

I was actually joking, since its just a rather large muffler. Trying to poke fun at the ricers with ginormous exhausts that they claim adds 20/25HP on top of the 5 horses they get from the stickers.

The muffler never bothered it, it's always the tips. Why have a 2.5" exhaust pipe that ends...then stick a 4" exhaust tip on the end? The exhaust for my gti doesn't even have a tip, the piping just ends...no polish, no tips, no blue flames...it's exactly what I wanted.

Yeaah....there's lots of reasons I'm glad I'm not a car enthusiast in CA... *Shiver*

Yep, it sucks.

Hence why every car I've ever done anything to were 1975 or older.

Friends Chevy truck, 1975. New intake, exhaust. (Small block 350)

Some crap to my Chevelle. (1972)

Swapped a 350 into a 1973 Nissan 240z. (Lost my house midway and had to sell it!!!!!!! BAH!)

Sorry, I see that you were joking now. I just hate to see people messing up cars with tachometers the size of a dinner plate, and retarded fart burner exhausts when the car is an economy car, designed to sip fuel and be reliable - things that really have nothing to do with high performance.

Also, the loud exhausts and "boomin' stereo systems" keep me up since I live by the highway.

God dammit, I got old, didn't I.

Anyway, I'm not dumping on Type R's and stuff, they are sports cars. I'm talking about "souping up" cars with no potential. Making them perform worse, weighing them down with hundreds of pounds worth of stereo systems and body wings and then putting the loudest muffler they can find on it.
