Anybody here wear contacts?

I went to the eye doctor today and got a pair because I was getting tired of glasses.
I am wearing my contacts now, but I have a question for anyone who happens to wear them, are they supposed to be a little funny at first?

I have been looking at the Num Lock key once every hour for 3 hours and it still seems blurry.

Mabye the num lock key lettering has been smudged?

Does looking around the room look ok?

Yup yup, contacts are odd at first. I remember it vividly! Or to be more accurate, not so vividly.

The room is fine, just some colors (the orange glow of the Num Lock key and the blue light of my speaker power indicator are REALLY blurry. Although, my PC and TV still look really sharp.

I do love contacts, always hated that little weight on the front of my face.

Vegeta-Did they sting at all at first?

Contacts do feel a bit weird at first. You will probably blink more frequently for some time and may have the feeling of dry eyes. Actually, I have that feeling right now, but that's because I put my contacts on about 7:40am and now it's 1am. So I'm not really sticking to the 10 hours a day requirement (or whatever the requirement is). :p

Why not get laser surgery? It costs less than 400 quid per eye nowadays.

It's certainly on my to-do list.

Contacts will feel weird for the few week or so. After that, you won't be able to feel them. Dunno about the blurriness.

Just took my contacts out and the lights are not as blurry with glasses, hmmm, I dunno, I'll get used to it.
repiV- It's on my list too, but I still can't afford it now.

No, but it's the same as glasses. Your eyes will soon adjust.

I considered switching to contacts, but my eyes are kinda dry so I think it would probably hurt.

Because they SLICE your CORNEA open with a KNIFE.

But srsly, yes to blurriness, and they might even cause some astigmatism.

Ack. Contacts would drive me crazy. I'd probably freak out and either stab my eye, or freak out because I have a contact BEHIND MY EYE!

*eyes tear up thinking about it*

i still wear glasses. i dont look as good with them. which severely cuts my make-out rate.

It's a mental thing with me and glasses. The first girl I ever liked in 8th grade....I was infatuated with her throughout middle school. She never really talked to me ever. Then, 8th grade rolled around, I got glasses, and she started talking to me. Of course, no real dating or anything happened, but she talked to me a lot, and signed my "year book" thing and what not. Ever since then, I've had the mental block in that me without glasses = ugly. It's really hard to break that.

Been wearing 'em since around 10th grade I think. Definitely beats the hell out of glasses. I suppose some people can look ok with glasses, but in general, no glasses makes you look much much better.

Depending on the type you're getting, the downsides for me is the ~10 hour limit and the fact that it dries very easily when staring at a computer for prolonged periods.

Although Lasik would be great, it's just it's a tad bit expensive and it's not applicable for everyone. After a few years I may opt for that route though.

I'll be getting Lasik when i start making real money. It'll be awesome to be able to just wake up every morning and actually be able to see things. But for now, Ive got glasses. They're cheaper, easier, less irritating. I wore contacts for about a year, then my last pair got used up and I decided not to continue. Its just a hassle for me, and if you stay out for long periods of time and dont have a chance to change them then they get really annoying. Plus every once in awhile I'd forget to take them out before I went to sleep. Then I'd wake up and be like "OMG I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW THE RAIN IS GONE!" "Oh wait... shit! OW OW OW OW GET OUT OF MY EYE GET OUT GET OUT!"

Not fun. With glasses I just get up, grab em off my nightstand and put em on. Then do it in reverse order when I go to sleep.

hmmm, i dont know if I agree with you entirely on that one. People do say I looked better without my glasses though! so fair enough!

I wore contacts for a good few years and had no major problems regarding comfort, eye strain. But I find glasses more practical (unless im heading a football, out in the pouring rain!) and enjoy not worrying about solution, them drying out, becoming dislodged etc. I think im just lazy!

lol, me too!

Can you tell me if street lights and car headlights look blurry to you?

Is it almost like you have double vision?

I have contacts, and I think I know exactly what you mean. The unfortunate thing is, the only time I've ever had this problem was when I used to wear crappy contacts that always messed with my eyes. You may need to change the brand of contacts you use.

But don't jump the gun based on my unprofessional advice. Give it a few days, who the hell knows.

I exceed the limit pretty much everyday, putting them on when I get up and taking them off when I go to sleep. My eyes haven't fallen out yet, so I guess it's fine. ;)

Ah yes, I exceed it too on a regular basis as well. The thing is, it starts to get really irritating after around 14 - 15 hours of non-stop use. I've slept with them in my eyes at times but I typically avoid it, since the contacts sometimes move to other parts of the eye and it's becomes a bit of a bitch to get it back in the right spot.

Oh, I've never had them move by themselves. I've had times where the contacts were killing me, though - I put them on one or both of my eyes itched and hurt me. I think it was caused by the case where you put them for the night not being cleaned by me properly. It says in the instructions, that you should clean it with the fluid you keep them in, but now I clean it with normal tap water under high pressure and it's all fine.

They might not be the right type for your eyes. Where did you get them?

I wear monthlys, but I really really really want the highly-oxidised ones that you keep in non-stop for a few weeks. :bounce:

I already have astigmatism in my right eye.

Pitz-It only really kinda stings the first time, after a day, you'll be used to it.

I have these. They are epic. Problem is, they get so much more painful than regular ones do when they start to irritate. If that makes sense...

Had contacts since Summer 04. I remember I never got the girls before. Then I got contacts and I was in the pants of a really fit girl within 3 weeks of getting them. Cause = correlation? Most certainly!

I think I slept in my contacts for half a year once. Not a damn thing happened.

No but hopefully I will be able get some pale blue ones for my Underworld party (for my 18th). I am going be a vampire! At the moment I wear glasses. All the time. I hate them, the make my face look fat. I look better without glasses, but if I don't wear them my vision is shit.

Oh, I thought they used a laser to cut the cornea back now too, instead of that blade thing. I dont really know why I thought that.

i actually think i might soon need glasses because sometimes it takes a while before i start seing things clearly, everything seems blurry first

but it might be the lack of sleep, so my eyes are always sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired, and combine that with 20 hours of staring at the computer monitor every day

which leads me to my question. is there any evidence that staring at a computer or tv screen could actually impaire your vision? can you become blind?

It is possible, especially if you screen is really bright, try turning down brightness/sharpness(TV)/and contrast.

You might want to be careful with the whole cleaning with tap water. I remember a few news story a while back about tap water passing bacterium onto the contacts. And if I remember correct, the problem with wearing contacts while sleeping is that it might scratch your eye, which will leave it vulnerable to infection. Personally, I would really avoid cleaning it with tap water. After all, it's not worth risking permanently losing your eyesight over saving a few bucks from not using the contact solution.

Well, I only clean it with tap water and then pour in the proper fluid, in which I keep the contacts for the night, which I guess should take care of any bacteria brought in with water. And I haven't had my eyes hurt me since then, so it seems it even works for the better. So as you see I'm not doing that to save fluid, but because cleaning with fluid only didn't wash out all the dirt from within the case.
