Sorry if this has been posted before.

I picked up PCG today and it turns out the new Doom exp. pack is gonna have bullet-time, a new suit that protects you from radiation and impact, and, wait for it.. a gravity gun.

Nice.

At least the suit isn't orange.

And a unknown man with a briefcase named D-Man.

Its gonna be great. I can't wait to head back into Hell.

And a slightly sexy but not-particularly-hot sidekick named Alexys.

The new enemies look like something from a kids toy chest, so plastic looking they are.

Just seemed odd, y'know - Id are known to be innovators, and now, they're leeching stuff from other developers. Shame they haven't added a few polys to the new pack's models, too. At least the shadows are sexy.

Didnt you hear they were placing a huge tower in the middle of mars? It holds the gateway to hell...originally it was going to be called the Cita -

Ok, back on topic

Yes, i heard that, hmm, sounds like a bit of a rip off, nevermind a bit hehe. "The grabber gun" Thats a pathetic name, but hey should be fun....especially with Doom 3's marvellous physics engine. :p

Hehe, the funny thing is, that's pretty much how iD touted it - the marvellous physics engine. That can what, err, make a barrel split into pieces when it exlodes? WOW!

The grav gun was in Doom 3 though wasn't it? Wasn't there a console command to activate it.

Anyway, this is a D3 discussion so Moved to General Gaming

OI! Dont diss the superb doom 3 physics engine!!

Sorry, i lie, the doom 3 physics engine is terrible, stupid advetisement. :|

Hehe, but yes your right, the so called super physics engine that allows you to knock over coke cans but not other coke cans.

It seems the UAC was so dum enough to brign chainsaws into space, that they have been dum enough to cement coke cans to tables! Would you believe it, sheesh mad scientists of the modern age.

*EDIT*

You sure Chris?

No, there wasn't. I'm 85% sure.

Edit - *isn't

This isn't a time to bash doom. I haven't heard about this expansion. Linky?

Doom 3: Resurection of evil.

The only screens i have seen, are in PC Gamer UK, and if i wasnt mistaken, it looks like a complete replica of doom 3...same corridor crawl (aw crap i bashed doom again :p )

But yes, was announced a while ago, if you like doom 3, as i know quite a few do, then you'll love this.

Just watch out for them coke cans. Mr cement is on the loose

No bashing done by me, just pointing out the tables have turned on Id, who now use other people's ideas.

I don't condone other people bashing, but must respect the inevitable :p

The news was in PCZ or PCGamer, whichever one I picked up in Smith's today while spending my holiday vouchers.

Well lets see how it turns out, i mean, it will most definatley work in a somewhat different fashion to the grav gun, it has too, if they want to avoid a total ripoff.

If they pull it off, then it could prove quite good in the long run.

the Ionized Plasma Levitator, also called the Grabber. It performs a function similar to that of Half-Life 2's gravity gun, taking advantage of DOOM 3's advanced physics system to let you pick up objects, move them around, and even use them as weapons. If you've played Half-Life 2, you'll find a few differences: you can grab projectiles from enemies and fling them back, or even pick up small enemies and toss them at each other.

It would be easy to treat the weapon as a knockoff of the gravity gun, but -- as was the case with Half-Life 2 -- the gadget was borne out of something the team had already been using during the creation of DOOM 3. "It's one of those things that's just fun, and we've had it around in our engine," Hooper explains, "we actually used it as a tool throughout development where we'd grab physics objects and place them around the world." While there was some thought to adding the gun to DOOM 3, the team decided against it. "We talked about that quite a few times, but we had such a big arsenal of weapons, and so many other cool things going on, that it was just one of those things that never made it in."

So they know people are gonna be suspicious and are covering their asses. If you want to believe them...

(quote taken from gamespy.com)

it makes sense i guess, i believe they created it for testing reasons and just left it out, however i do believe they put it back in because of HL2.

DOOM 3 SUCKED...Oh...sorry for bashing doom 3...just upset that i wasted fifty dollars...
It is still entertaining though (on occasion).

Id would have, at the very least, seen the e3 demos of Hl2. So this doesn't really go any length toward clearing them of said suspicion, unless they put it in before then.

Yes, id woudl have at least relised, or at least you would think they would have...maybe how they should have relised that 2004 is no longer 1993

oh please like HL2's didnt have problems.. last I checked if i threw a glass bottle at someones head in real life it wouldnt bounce off him and fly 10 feet across the room

Why did Id insist on glueing everything down? The enviroments didn't take advantage of the physics at all.

No-one said Hl2's physics were perfect

However, they were incorporated in a way that was ( is ) a step ahead of everything else.

...and you meet a sexy bodybuilder space marine named Ali

That's where i come into it, and start to work my magic!

Don't diss the physics, i lasted over an hour punching the coke cans, and walls to hear the thud. IT annoyed me when punched a barrel and it exploded....

bah, ill get it.... but the plot seems quite odd as the game picks up right where it was left, just when you've been saved get screwed by a crapload of demons from Zeh realMz Of Teh SatanZ
it's gonna have the double barreled shotgun as in the original doom, oh the nostalgia..... mmmmmmmm........
it woundt be out till march, which is poo.
i hope it'll have the soul cube...

I enjoyed Doom 3 for what it was - a good horror game that kept me on the edge of my seat. I'll most likely be getting the expansion pack.

Guess what, fanboys - you can like more than one FPS game! OMGWTF!?!

What!? Nobody told me this..hmm.

Oh i liek alot of FPS'S not just half life 2, but it just happens that doom 3 is a terrible game, in my honest opinion :)

Never!

LoLZors. Ahem.

Doom3 was a good game in its own right, just not the groundbreaker everyone had hoped.

'Parently the soulcube isn't scheduled a return, although there is a bunch of new artifacts based around a soulcube-stylee goodie and 3 evil artifacts that you eventually possess, having stolen them offof hunter-demons. One of these gives you bullet time.

Arrr.

One of these gives you bullet time.

My, my, ID have really out done themselves there !

:p

Ok, i will stop the bashing now, its getting a bit pathetic

id's not making the expansion, i thought it was nerve software. And also, how do u know someone didn't come out with a grav gun before. A STALKER dev said that they were gonna create one, but HL2 got the first to release it.

So many people here like Half-Life 2 way too much.
I'll be getting this expansion pack. Unlike Half-Life 2's gravity gun, this one can redirect enemy projectiles back at them and toss smaller enemies.
id Software is a great company.
"OMFG! ID soFtware is TeH ripof of HL-2!crapity gunN!"
I am one of the few people here that actually liked Doom III and thought it was pretty fun.
I'm going to say this:
I like Doom III more than Half-Life 2. I like id software's work.
If you wish to flame me or give me bullshit, I'll tell the moderators.
Does anybody know when this will be released?

Guess what, fanboys - you can like more than one FPS game! OMGWTF!?!

So disliking Doom 3 makes you dislike every other FPS out there?

Way to go Mr Generalisation.

If you wish to flame me or give me bullshit, I'll tell the moderators.

My dad can beat up yours! Neh!
