Apple to generate huge returns on iPhone

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/01/19/apple_to_generate_50_percent_margin_on_iphone/

$500 for a phone that costs half that much to build? Jesus. And I like how the article says this isn't the only product doing that. I wonder how much they make on an iPod.

This just makes me hate Apple even more. The least they can do is not be pricks and try to take such a huge cut.
Oh for God's sake get over it. People want the iPhone, Apple knows this. They want it enough to pay $500, so that's what Apple will charge. Makes sense to me.

Most of the shit you purchase costs half as much to make as it costs you.

They have to make money somehow...you can't expect a business to gain profit off..not making anything extra!

But man, that's a big gap D:

are you kidding me? how is apple different that any other coporation out there? when you buy a can of coke for $1 do you really think 90% of the cost went into production? I wouldnt be surprised if it was one tenth of that or less.

Also you fail to take into account things like the overhead cost of running an things like tech support, training, research and development, marketing, software, paying the freaking heating bill etc etc etc

I'm surprised you of all people would have a problem with an american company having world dominance in a sector of the tech industry ..would you rather japan? germany? S korea? what about canada?

Hahahahahahahahhahahha...

Canada on top of something....

hahahahahahahahha..
that's almost like saying the French....*bust up laughing*

Joking aside, Stern has a point. For the love of god, soda pop is SO freaking cheap to create, and they are charging you out the ass...

Ummm, water bottling companies anyone? You'll pay just as much for a water bottle as a soda bottle. Now what is the most common substance on earth? Yeah that's what I thought >.<

Whoever got the idea to put water in a piece of plastic and market it for $1.50 apiece deserves a medal.

Games cost what...a quarter to print? yet we pay $60

ktxhbai

In the end, the incomes and expenses tend to even out for a company (unless it's a shitty company, then there will be more expenses than incomes). If they had lowered the price in this phone, they would've had to cut the prices on something else, like wages, heating (freezing office FTL), marketing or prostitution.

IPhone = sexy

If I had the money... well err, ok I still wouldnt buy it, I need a new PC, but if I had ALOT of money, I would sure buy this :p

I might end up buying it after I get my new car.

Well chances are the iPhone cost them millions in expenses so by charging this much off the bat, they'll recoup their losses quicker and later on a price drop will revitalize interest in the phone.

Still hate Apple though.

I'll just get an Nphone and have a physically fit black man run to my friends to bring over my messages.

Good thing I don't care for any of Apple's "i" bullshit.

apple hate is completely irrational

Maybe. I don't like their products, I don't like their prices, I hate their advertising, and I detest the smug, pompous, beret-wearing assholes half of their customers seem to turn into.

"Oh, you use Windoze, do you?" *rolls his eyes and takes a light sip from his Starbucks coffee after a disappointed sigh*

meh I've been a mac user for almost 15 years that is actually rare ..most people who use it exclusively are professionals

and whether or not you like their products you still have to admit for a company that has less than 5% of pc market share they seem to have quite a big influence/impact on the industry

Oh no, don't confuse my dislike for them as a belittlement of their impact.

I think the reason for a lot of my angst regarding Apple has to do with the sort of pervasive attitude that they exude. This self-crafted image of an obelisk of perfection that's crystallized in their "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads.

I know that shouldn't affect my purchases, which should be grounded in a device's practicality. But as a PC user with very few complaints, and an owner of a non-Apple MP3 player that works splendidly for my needs, it gets tiring.

Yeah but their fanbase is as bad as Peta.

ya but that's always been perpetuated by both mac and pc users ..it's just as popular to hate macs as it is to like them

dont knock it till you try it ...use any apple product and you cant help but notice it's quality ..it's not just hype or an advertising gimick, apple does produce high quality products... but again it all comes down to personal choice

Yeah but their fanbase is as bad as Peta.

yes because you know the first thing about either company ..Peta "fans" what a rediculous statement ..but do shut up, your opinions mean little here and are a perfect example of the state of being irratinal

I just get pissed that you get papers calling generic mp3 players iPod's

C'mon, a Creative Zen is not under any circumstances an iPod!

I hate the ipods cuz all the stupid people I see hav ones, and allways excited for the next one,is like if they masturbate looking at it

The thing I don't like about iPhone is they are acting as if this is revolutionary... when in reality, it's bindun.

If you use macs exclusivly how do you play Half-Life 2?

I love you for this post, I have a friend who typifies this character you described, and it's accurate down to the last detail. I'm with you on that 'dislike apple' boat. Their products irritate me and their advertising feels like it's trying to be edgy & trendsetting - which frankly comes across as a little pretentious. iPod's popular seems to have given them a new found confidence to do so. And Stern, quality products is slightly debatable. The amount of problems iPod has been called up on (mainly battery issues) is astronomical. I'm happy to not be in that free fall.

More on topic though, I have no issue with the return they are making on the iPhone, every new product is the same regardless of the company, it's called a profit margin. Things come down in price after a while, but guess what? There's still profit. Bloody money making clever fat cats!
