The game will most certainly ship on the 30th of September, 2003

Edit: I agree with genocide, sorry for my sarcasm :) :)

Id say it will be out Holiday 2003, just because i think valve has the game done, and by the recent events.. they seem pretty relaxed and ready as can be.

also im trying to be optomistic, if they delay further, they WILL lose alot of customer fan base.

im hoping for holiday 2003... HOPING. but with our experience, valve will tell us april 2004 a week before whichever holiday they were referring to when they said "holiday 2003" .

but seriously, i really hope for holidays 2003. their would be alot of losses if they held back to april, but i honestly wouldnt be surprised.

if they can make a beta right now , about a week after the source leak, what do you think they could come up with if you give hackers months of time? i think the leak kind of gave valve a race against time to release it.

but i really have no idea about any of this, im only trying to think optimistically about the release.

They have to release it holidays 2003. If they dont, everyone will d/l the beta, and that will kill sales if it comes out next year.

Valve has to make Holiday 2003. With this leaked beta, they're gonna get totally raped if they delay it again.

Edit: Pretty much the exact same thing posted right before me ^^^

Yeah, they were pretty relaxed a few days before announcing a Holiday 2003 delay, too. I think they've gotten good at putting on a good show for vistors, so you can't really use their office demeanor to derive the state of the game.

Still, the only reason the game was delayed initially (at least according to Valve) is that the game was simply not done, and futher information from Gabe seemed to indicate they were in the process of polishing up the single player portion, using the same rigerous testing process that made the first game a classic leading me to believe that a Holiday 2003 release was a near certainty.

So if they do delay the game now, it will be for no other reason than to patch up whatever security risk was caused by the leaked source code. In other words, Valve will be sitting on a completed game but will be unable or unwilling to release it until they've rewritting parts of the code.

In all practicality, an April 2004 delay could be very costly because of the source code and functional beta floating around but also because it will put Half-Life 2 in direct competition with some heavy hitters.

Personally, I say Valve should just cut their losses and release the single player portion of the game and give everybody a free upgrade to the multiplayer when they're done fixing all the security holes in the code.

f this valve are playing a corporate game and im having f all to do with it.

first its steam then its a source code leak????

what did they expect everything gets leaked in the computer world.

its all a ffff ing wind up/

Going with an April 2004 date would be completely unprofitable. They're competing with other titles, they lose the sales of the holiday shopping season, so many more people will have gotten a (probably) full beta of the game, etc, etc... Not a wise choice.

That's why I'm patiently waiting on a Holiday 2003 date.

i read an article that said 2004 guys....sorry. if i find that article i will post link for ya

Guys, keep in mind the beta is not the full game, its a tons of stuff missing, so its not an alternative.

But yes, if its really delayed till April 2004, sales will be bad, why? because the hype and excitment will die by the time its out at April, and they'd have to compete with Doom3.

nov15 was my second date, but i "Dont give a shit anymore, or at least very close to"

I think for Valve's benefit, they should try to release it before March 2004 when Doom 3 is released. There are a lot of guys out there with only so much cash. Ones that can only afford either one game or the other and if Doom 3 comes out before Half-Life, I think that will hurt HL2 sales.

Holidays or Bust. I'll be in college (out of the dinky community college) by April, so the sooner, the better.

i still say holidays 2003 simply because:

1. i don't trust vivendi
2. vivendi is the publisher, they have ziltch to do with the actual production
3. valve hasn't said so.
