Story.

Saudi Arabian and former Pro Evolution champion withdraws from fourth-annual Electronic Sports World Cup due to being pitted opposite an Israeli.

This sounds crazy to me. You enter a gaming tournament knowing full-well there might be an Israeli player that you just might face and when you do face him you turn your back on the challenge? It seems to me that taking a stance against him in a videogame would be better than giving up. What sort of message does that send to his homeland that he professes to love so dearly? Apparently the Israeli kid didn't even rank in the top eight, so he might've easily whooped him. Good thing this sort of thing didn't happen in the World Cup!

Sounds wrong, but maybe hes just scared becasue of the current state between the two..two places, religions, countries, land, organisations, or whatever unimportant thing they are so rediculus figthting about.

it wouldnt be the first time ..on both sides

Wouldn't it make more sense for him to pummel his opponent and show superiority rather than backing down?

:|

I know, its just a game. Can't they put their politics aside for even a monent and just relax and play the game for the fun of it? Isn't that the whole idea behind the Olympics as well? Ugh....

ya politics always get in the way ...like how the US boycotted the moscow olympics back in 1980 (political reasons: invasion of afghanistan (how ****ing ironic is that?) or how the soviet union in return boycotted the 1984 los angeles olympics ..or how some baseball players refused to play with Jackie Robinson, or how the entire boxing federation refused to recognise that boxer Jack Johnson was the world heavy weight champ because he was black

gaming cup is in my hometown. I didn't want to go though, because I'm not a fan of any of the games they're competing for.

Scared? Your making a mistake. Hatred. That would be the correct one. You have a lot of fear when entering a gaming tournament, but that move was purely political. As with the Politics of Israel's formation against the Palestinian instigated riots, kidnappings, and massacres ... as with Nasser's failed War of Attrition, and embarassment then an Arabian Army was chased by a underling Jewish Army.

However, you deduce it.

As we know with they're regions, the middle-east and its political tensions are usually bourne out of misunderstanding and hatred. Same principle, I'll argue. Perhaps, even racism? Played the African-Americans. Played the Hispanics. Played the Caucasians. Not the Israeli, huh? It's not that far a stretch ... speaks volumes of the Israeli player however. Cause he obviously was not concerned about facing someone from the Arabian Penninsula.

No way - apparently it's some kind of bizarre impossibility that they put down their differences. Look at what a frickin' quagmire that region has been in since they stepped up. I'd like to think anyone leaving that place has the sense to leave that crap behind.

Can't blame him, if he lost he'd probably be stoned to death or something :D

I'm loving the antagonism. I hereby play the Eye of the Beholder card and invalidate all of it. Group hug!

To say nothing of all the times whole countries have done the same thing that the Arab just did.

I wouldn't have done that, instead I'd have made sure that I won.

^^ second that :p just beat the guy = brings more satisfaction aye :p
