Bottom line is that individual Americans are overall smart, attentive people. But when you put them in a group, they will only act as smart as the dumbest person in the group. The US is overall pretty racist not because everyone is racist, but because a few influential people are racist and a lot of other Americans want to be in the popular group ("if it's popular to be racist, then omg I've gotta be that too!").
Americans are so obsessed about being accepted and proving to the world that we're the best - of course we're gonna do stupid sh*t because of this mentality.
