Are you a geek?

I am very self aware, I analyze my life loads. Mostly due to myself being different from the crowd, which I now actually fully accept and enjoy. I like being different and I feel I am in some way I have good principles.
One of the insults people have used in the past is 'geek', erm so what? I'm good with computers & maths.
There are plenty of problems in life and I don't see being someone naturally talented as a bad thing, like most I have a crowd of people of all adges who run to me with computer need. Which also adds nicely to my wallet.
No matter how you are geeky, be proud, get excited at the new motherboard and 4 gig's of ram being delivered. Be proud when you realise all your shopping consists of caffeine products. Be proud to explain how surping your coffee makes it cooler.
Long live geek's!

I'm not good with computer nor maths... ;(

I mean, I'm better than anyone but 1 person I know in comps, but that's kase there's no l33t in my city....

Soon all of us geeks with rise up and take the planet Earth which is rightfully ours. Then being called a jock will be an insult to the same magnitude that being called a geek is now.

BAH HAHAHAHAHAAH

I consider myself a NUCI.
Nerd Upon Closer Inspection
A total computer/technology obsessed person, but without being immedietly obvious. I fit the bill for being a geek in almost every way, except for excelling at math.

I am teh sux with math!!11!1

Hell yes im a proud geek, I love computers and the interweb... hell im even wearing "Dark Side" star wars t-shirt right now!!

p.s. if you spend your time posting on the HL2.net forums you are a geek of some sort

I take pride and embrace that I am a super nerdy geek :) although I dont exactly have the typical nerd appearance, nor are my grades exellent, (I also dont spend spare time doing mathmatical and theoritcal equations) but yes im a proud comp geek/nerd who had had hour long (sometimes more) about HL2 theories john titorish conspiracies and theoretical time travel / physics type things even though I have fun talking about them im pretty clueless to how it would work in real life I just love to converse about wild theories its one of my favorite things to do...sad thing is I can't even puntuate or spell right in my posts :p

Nah, I'm not. I race Motorcycles on dirt tracks and I have many friends at school. They are all pretty cool kids. I take school seriously though, I am always an A+ student in English class and Spanish class. (one might say I'm good with languages.) Math isn't my strongest point, but I studied hard and got an A- on my final exam.

Computer games are just a fun thing to do with my free time as a child. I know enough about computers to get by.

I'm prolly at the border of it... But still if I was a complete geek (which I probably am) , I wouldn't be ashamed of it thanks to the movies Revenge of the Nerds :D

oh man I love that movie, the first one that is which is the only one I really love..... my parents have it on VHS from there teenage years me and my friends had a field day with it when I was about 12 and since then we have reuinion type sleepovers were you whatch it.. such a great movie

Bah! You call yourself a geek? I'm wearing an original Doom t-shirt, brandishing my mint-condition-still-in-the-pack chewie action figure, while drinking my Bawls and a big grab of chitos. I'm also using voice-recognition software to type this, with a mic I modified myself!

HA!! you think youse all that, I have a custom branded c3po di cast metal replica and a r2d2 dinner table signed by George Lucas, my doothbrush is the quake rocket launcher and my walls are painted with various characters from Star Trek I also speak clingon as well as wookie and hut... oh did I mention I have still in its box luke skywalker with saber swinging action! w00t

wow I made all that up, I have way to much time on my hands :dozey:

I still kick your ass at UT2k4 :) oh and Baby, its 'Klingon'.

I am wearing an all black shirt right now...with jeans...and white socks...and glasses.

I don't know if I am...

I'm not that great with computers, well, I guess I kind of am, compared to most people my age. But it's not like I talk about them at school, or anything.

And I'm terrible at math. Just terrible. Well, since grade 8 anyways (grade 7 I was close to top of my class in math).

I have friends, and never get bullied or anything, and I love to play, and watch sports. I play hockey in summer and winter, golf, referee hockey and soccer, and I played soccer since I was nine, but not this year.

However, I do like computer games quite a bit. Although I am definetly losing interest for sure. Compared to a couple years ago, or even 6 months ago.

This should be made into a poll. Non-Geek, Geek, and NUCI. Mods...errr....use your modilly powers!

What's wrong with being smart? If you don't yak about math all day then you're not a nerd/geek.

I makes the lesser intelligent symbiots threated while making them look bad. Thats why some have to make up their lack of crainial activity with buldging muscles. In the eyes of a women either one is good.

I'm not sure what I am..

I've tried to install Linux, I've got a modded 'puter, I love playing games, I'm running a mod team, I moderate a game fansite's forums..

But on the other hand I play county-standard Badminton, play Bass (and possibly vocals) in a band.. have quite a few friends and go out lots, plus I'm very comfortable in the precense of the opposite sex :)

I differentiate between geeks and nerds. Generally, a it is more desireable to be a nerd than a geek. Nerds can be geeks, but not the otherway around. A nerd actually knows things (has skills (or skillz, if you prefer), and good grades, stuff like that). A geek doesn't have to have any of these, just an extreme love of something (Star Wars, computers, Dungeons & Dragons, stuff like that.

A nerd: "You know, the Death Star laser wouldn't work in real life."
A nerd who is a geek: "The Death Star laser, while awesome, wouldn't work."
A geek: "The Death Star laser pwns joo!!! Boba Fett is so cool! Woot!"

That being said, I'm neither a geek nor nerd, I just have a lot of free time.

I think I'm more of a waster than a nerd or geek. I'm quite intelligent but I'm too damn lazzy. I really should be going through a physics exam paper right now but instead I'm just vegitateing infront of a computer and I really need a part time job but ringing people up and filling in forms is just too much effort, if I actually had the job I would do it and do it well but getting started is the problem.

Apparantly I don't look like a nerd/Geek but my social skills are terrible (due to lazzyness) and I know enough about computers to qualify as one.

What I hate are people who try really hard to make it look like there not a geek and try desparately hard to prove you can be a tech enthusiaste whithout being nerdy. Of course these people could never qualify as a geek anyway, they simply don't know what there on about, but they obvously think with there "superior" knowledge they could be mistaken for one.

I'd class myself as a closet geek, but a mild geek. I know more about computers and games than a lot of the people I know, but I generally don't let on because of the stigma attached. It made me very uncomfortable that I got the "Will this run on my 486?" joke in last year's e3 presentation...
The rest of the time I cover it up by having good social skills, dressing well (if I do say so myself), getting drunk, dancing like an idiot and falling over. Huzzah.

You put it best and I'd say I fall into the catagory of "A Nerd with Geek-ish qualities"

if there was a RPG- like skill level, i would be somewhere around the lower leveled geek... with "n00b" being the lowest and "1337 h4x0r" being the best.

That would be me too.
Math is one of my worst subjects :\

Yeah, pretty much me. I'm sort of part-cool, part-geek/nerd. I listen to metal and stuff like that, enjoy partying and going out with my mates, but I also know too much about technology, games etc.

And yes, I laughed profusely at the 486 joke at the e3 presentation. Doesn't bother me a damn bit ;)

I get called a geek a lot at school, because I do well in all subjects (but not maths...). It doesn't bother me though. I have loads of great friends, and I paintball regularly, so I'm making more all the time. I'm happy with who I am and I wouldn't change

Im like the guy from revenge of the nerds 2 or 3 that said swomething like: "I have realized I am a nerd on the inside and only my outside is a sexy jock."

Nah, Im a nerd but not freaky :-/ :D in my own opinion.

Maybe we should all just realise that posting here automatically nerdifies us?

Probably true...ah well, if im a nerd then the rest of this planet is coming with me!

They will enjoy my games, they will understand why i play and they will smell my cheese!...

...actually, forget the cheese.
