There is the 'neither' option because then you can say they're both incorrect or both correct. Although I didn't want anyone to say whether they are correct, but whether they sound acceptable at all. Basically I wanted to know whether you would say 'sounds horrible' or 'sounds a little odd but just possible'.
What I meant by saying that Brits don't care about change...well actually it seems like there is more variation in British English, whether they want to admit it or not. It is probably the case that those Brits who care about 'good' English are more outspoken than those in America, but my gut feeling is that American English is more uniform in general than British English, if we put aside how much people try to prevent any deviation from 'correct' language. But I'm not an expert on American English.
But thanks to everyone, I love it that you are so interested in this and there's good discussion. This might seem a stupid topic for a thread but this if what I live for.
