Even if Gamestop say the 4th of Feburary they'll realise the error of their ways when it comes to the 28th/29th/30th of September and a big truck pulls up outside with lots and lots of copies of Half-Life 2.

I preordered from Gameplay.co.uk which has contacts with Halflife2.net so I'm happy about my preorder.

I think im actually going to do what Tork is doing. And I have enough money for Spec. Edition! yay me!

I'm gonna go to the games store, and tell them to call me as soon as HL2 gets there.
I guess I'll buy 2-3 copies, for my friends too.

i regret it becasue i want the collectors edition ;(
im kicking my self over it because i pre orded it 5 months ago :p
ill prolly give it to my friend for a price and get the Collectors edition :D

I saved roughly 600 bucks for this occasion, I just hope(wish) I can get the radon/hl2 combo pack on the 30th!

If you did it online you could cancel it, couldnt you? Just like call up the credit card company and tell them to not authorize the store.
or you could do part b

man, what if you preorder it on one of the sites that says november whatever thand sept. 30th rolls around and the game is released but you don't get it shipped to your house until the november date :p ok that made little sense but you guys can figure out what i meant

the collectors edition will be on dvd? is this true? (i want it to be)

confusion? speak for urself..

i am as informed as i need to be for my pre-order of HL2..

i had pre-ordered it 2 months ago, but when i heard about the many verions of the game being released, i went and talked to the salesguy about different versions.

his response: anyone that pre-orders HL2 from us is gauranteed a copy of HL2.. and if there are many versions, our pre-ordering customers get to choose which version they want..

as for pricing, he said when u come to pick up the game, u pay the difference then.. so since i deposited $60 dollars and it happens that theres a Collector's edition which is priced at $90 dollars... guess what? $30 dollars and that version is mine :p

confusion is for the dumb pple.. anyone that wants to be informed, will be informed

nuff said :p

Dr. Freeman, where did you preorder? I want to preorder from them. That is the best deal I have seen for ANY of the sites I have been on.

i live in Toronto, Canada..

i pre-ordered my copy at the local Compucentre.

click here for the Compucentre website

i don't know the details of how it works with online orders.. u can email them and find out tho :)

I have one question. Why do people preorder games? I can understand putting money down in advance for getting a game home on request. But paying in advance? That's ridiculous. Grow up! Stop doing it! Stop feeding the greedy retail chains money to their cash flow.

I never understood people pre-ordering either. If there is a game I am wanting to get on release day, I simply call up my local EB the day its released and ask them to hold me a copy..hasnt failed me yet..

You never know whats going to change before the actual release.

People pre-order because they want the game the first day, or they dont wait to have to try to hunt down that stray copy that they cant get their hands on.

Well, I preorder from Websites because it usually works out cheaper. Having said that, you don't need to pay any money upfront.

Maybe it's just the Guarantee of having the game.

Im buying 2 copies of the special edition, and will do whatever I have to to get them.
if its a day off work/college so be it.

where i pre-ordered my copy, in order to do so, u must deposit at least $20 dollars with them.. its their way of making sure u are not playing a prank on them.. plus HL2 is so anticipated, retailers want to make sure they have a certain number of copies just for pre-order customers..

and some places don't deliver the game to home.. depends on the place.

first, u didn't read my posts carefully.. cause it doesn't matter "whats going to change before the actual release"

secondly, if u want to take that risk and calling up a retailer about HL2 on release day, go ahead.. just cause it hasn't failed u yet doesn't mean it won't at some point.. u think ur the only one thats gonna be wanting HL2?..

Did the same thing for Quake, Unreal, and alot of other games that were hyped to hell and back. When I bought Vice City on opening day, I simply walked into Best Buy and picked up one of the 30 copies that were still on store shelves. Everyone knows the hype that surrounded VC at launch..

As such, I will do the same thing with Halflife 2..and I will report my success or failure in this thread, just for you.

The last time I preordered a game was Diablo II and as soon as I got there I saw a line of people who had preordered the game and were waiting to get their copy. The people who didnt preorder asked for the game and I heard the employee say that it was SOLD OUT and that only people who could get the game were the ones who preordered. The same could happen, but dunno....

The site i pre orded from says 12/12/2003 LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :x

No, i'm not regreting that i haven't pre-ordred. Because i want the speciall editon and not the regular one. And i also want a new computer before i lay my hands on this one :)

There's no need to wait out side the store for them to open. Reserve a copy and you can be there as soon as it opens. :D

I've preordered through Gamestop and like others have said in different threads, I've recieved emails stating later release dates. In any case, whether it's released on schedule or not, when could I expect it on my doorstep? If it is released on the 30th as planned, would I have it then or a few days afterward? Anybody ever taken this route before?

Personally, I'm glad this is one of those times I actually did preorder. It seems Valve is going to push this one down the wire, so I imagine a bulk of the initial shipment will be to fulfill preorders only with a few extra units going to each store for general retail (if they have any to spare). In other words, if you didn't preorder, you'd better get to your local software shop bright and early to make sure you are one of the lucky few to snag a copy!

Im playing it now. No preorder for me. I just sit in a dark room in a vat of pudding and dream.....

err....did I say that out loud?

many people preorder because they want to get the game ASAP AND they don't have a game store in their town. i go to school an hour away from any big cities and there's no EB, gamestop, best buy, or anything like that...

this town has sam goody, walmart, and meijers....all worthless for trying to get a game for a decent price on the day it comes out.

so i preordered for the extra $5 i'd spend at meijers or sam goody (and wal-mart's supposed to only have the SPonly version and paid for overnight shipping.

i heard IGN's store ships the day before the release so you actually get the game on release day if you order with overnight.

==========================

and actually...if you preorder over the internet by credit card, you don't pre-pay...they don't charge your card until it's actually shipped.

nah, i live in portugal so there wont be ppl waiting at 7 AM for the shops to open. Then again...i better get my sleeping bag ready

I actually finally gave in just yesterday and preordered. My thinking is this, if a game is delayed, its usually 3 weeks before its scheduled release (at the latest) so I think it is safe to say it will make its sept 30th release, especially since no credible source (valve) has said otherwise.

Never pre-order where they mail it to you.
You'll end up getting it days after it hits the stores.

I'll goto the local EB at lunch the day it comes out.

well aren't we a lucky guy huh? :afro:
so u have managed to get copies of previous big release games so that increases ur chance to get a copy of HL2 as well?..

dude, if only everyone had the kind of luck u have had.. we'd all be millionaires from winning the damn lotto

anyway, good luck, cause thats something i won't be needing to receieve my copy of HL2 :)
