I think this forum is filled with intelligent people, probably because HL2 is an intelligent people game. Myself rank top in SATs and such, I know it's doesn't show that I'm intelligent, but if I was stupid I probably wouldn't do as well...

School grades only show how much you apply your intelligence. I know some very very smart people who get terrible grades because the don't just bother to put any effort in. For example, I rarely do my homework at home because first, I think its a waste of time and second I just don't feel like it. I come home to relax, not to do more work. Just because some kids need to repeat the entire lesson on paper doesn't mean I have to. And I still get A's.

I made a 21 on the ACT test (a collage entrance exam) (which is enough to get into a majority of colleges) in 7th grade, in 3rd grade I read on an 11th grade reading level. I do average in school, mostly because I'm bored by the slow pace and retarded teachers. I also hate busy work, which the school system seems to think helps kids learn, which it does not (atleast not for me). My above average intelligence seems to be offset by my incredible laziness... I actually have a talent for writing, but I'm just too damn lazy to keep refining it.

I can work out puzzels easily, so I may be smart. In most peoples minds Intelligence = Knowledge. I have interests in things that are considerd to be enjoyed by smart people and/or geeks such as computers, classical music, human behavior, programming and computer networks.

And I agree with everyone in this thread. Homework, busywork, and all that stuff doesn't help. As Static said, we come home as a break from school, not a continuation of it.

I have found in life than anyone who needs to tell other people that they are intelligent generally isn't as smart as they make themselves out to be.

Quite often the people who get good marks in school are doing it to compensate for something else. Certainly not always the case of course but it is what I have found in life. Often the most downtrodden people in life are the people who are intelligent but are unable to fit properly into the social medium of life. The result is often a very sad and depressed individual who neither themselves or the people around them ever get to see their full potential, academically or professionally.

I consider myself smart; for certain situations. Give me numbers, or logic to work with, and I am happy. Give me a problem to solve, a puzzle if you will, and I am happy. Put me in a room full of girls and tell me that I have to go hook up with one of them by the end of the day and I will run screaming out of the room.
