Does anybody know a whole lot about this game, how it is going to compared to ARMA, and if it's going to be another flop or if it's going to actually be the next gen sequel we've been waiting for, for Operation Flashpoint?

I really want this game, but I don't know a whole lot about it yet, other than me seeing that it finally has a release date, and it's coming to steam on the 26th.

A German magazine/website PCACTION.de reviewed the German version a few weeks ago and gave it a 4/10. It's apparently a buggy mess.

'Ave you seen the screenshots in the thread? The guy who took them said it was better.

I also want it.
We can play together, Raz.

Your callsign is 'Cowman'.

I really want the game, because I want to mod for it as well as play it.

But I don't want it to be real buggy.

If it is buggy, I'll have to wait until after release for things to settle down.

Reading this thread currently about FPS with ARMA II.

According to people who have the German version the AI is a bit broken and there are some bugs. It plays well though and it runs better. Tempted to get this as well.

Just wait for flashpoint 2. The guys making ARMA are idiots and keep cocking it up over and over. IMHO it was luck that flashpoint played so well. Lets hope actavison can do a good job of the second one.

To be honest, it's surprisingly good. I didn't really have any hopes for it but so far I'm impressed. The early German version I've got is different to the full finished release happening later this month, which should apparently be a lot better.

The AI was broken, but a patch fixed that up. It's actually pretty damn good now, soldiers use cover properly, move from building to building in cities, lean round corners etc. The campaign though is still fooked for me though. The first mission was pretty good, felt very Flashpoint. Second mission my team got the waypoint and jack shit happened, I'm guessing a trigger or something must've been broken. All in all though, it's a far better game than ArmA - and while it's not exactly saying much it's definitely the most polished release these devs have put out. I'd wait until the proper release this month and see what kind of reaction it gets. If you've got money to burn though, ****ing around in the editor is just great fun.

I posted some screens here the other day, here's a gameplay vid too. Not exactly exciting, just opened up the editor and dropped in a few squads to face off against each other.

How'd you get that early version Jimmeh? Is it some beta thing they were offering that I didn't know of?

Do you know the system requirements?
That just looks awesome.

Actually looks pretty decent. I've played the first ARMA quite a bit but it didn't run too well on my system. Hopefully this one is a bit more optimized. I'll check it out if it isn't too expensive.

It's out in Germany, you can buy it online and just download it. There's an unofficial English language patch out there to take care of all the German menus/subtitles. Like I said though, it'd probably be a better idea to wait for the release later this month, it's like 39.99 euros. Didn't realise how weak the pound was when I bought it. :p

It looks and runs much nicer than ArmA does on the same settings.

Actually the English language patch isn't unofficial Jimmeh, it was included in the DOWNLOAD(not RETAIL) version by accident, and some people copied it before it was removed.

Anyway, I'm playing ARMA2 right now and having a hell of a good time, it's not running great on my 3 year old computer though..:\

Gonna need to get a new one later this year..

Can someone donate me some cash? Please.

It dosnt look half bad, I'll grab a copy. When is it out in the uk?

I hope the 360 version includes a mission editor like the XB1 remake of OFP did.

Got any more vids Jimmeh? Probably getting this. Just need something to give me the push to buy day one.

Doesn't inform me of anything I didn't already knew but I guess it's a decent read for people who are new to the series or game :p

Greg has reviewed ArmAII on The Reticule. Sadly it seems to be very very buggy :(

Unfortunately the review copy didn't allow him to play any multiplayer games. Expect a re-review when the game is more stable and we can play it online.

/gets ready for anger

I'll probably wait until they work out the bugs then. And I hope to god it's a good game underneath those bugs.

From all accounts (Greg's review and the PCG review) it is a great game, but the bugs are what let it down. Perhaps BIS should have pushed it back another month to sort it all out...

No doubt the campaign's buggy as hell - but otherwise I haven't really run into any major issues. There's a few sound glitches here and there, the odd animation issue - the only noticeable gameplay bug being how the AI controls vehicles. The infantry AI is actually very good after the patch, just as far I can tell the vehicle AI uses the same logic. So when they're driving a jeep, they'll zig-zag down a road constantly stopping every 10 metres as if they're taking cover or something. Apparently that's already fixed for the next patch though.

When they do fix the campaign up it's going to be awesome. After the first few missions it really opens up, the atmosphere is just really something. Your team is basically dropped into different "areas of operations" which are populated by hundreds and hundreds of units from all different factions - which are busy patrolling and fighting each other (all of it completely unscripted), as well civilian populations which you can interact with along the way. You're given a whole range of objectives to complete and it's up to you where you go and what you do. Best of all, you can play the whole thing co-op with 4 players, although I haven't done it yet. My guess is that's bugged to shit as well. For now I'm just having fun with single missions and the editor.

Speaking of which, some guy put a 1500-unit battle together. I'm guessing he has some sort of supercomputer.

That sounds awesome. Jeeps hiding behind shoulder-high walls?

Yep. Either that or they're indiscriminantly running down trees, lamposts, postboxes, civilians...

That video was awesome. He without a doubt has a top of the line rig. The battles look a lot better than Arma 1.

Try pitting 50 jet fighters on each side against each other... fastest battle ever.

why does this not surprise me? I'll wait 6 months or so for them to fix the game to a playable state but by then I'll have lost interest

The main thing that impressed me with that video up there was being up to move your head independently of your body. I don't know if that was in the first game, since I've not played it, but that's something I've always wanted. FPS's often try to achieve immersion yet the gun moves as if it's glued to your face.

Actually ARMA2 is a lot less buggy than OFP and ARMA were at release IMO.

Yeah, you were able to do that in the others.

I thought that was only if you have the TrackIR system

how are so many of you playing it? early release in your respective territories or is it a case of ARRRRRR Matey!?

The game is already out in Germany and The Reticule review was from some review code :)

Definitely. But that's not exactly saying much.

Anyone seen OFP2? I was looking forward to it until I saw some gameplay footage. Pretty much lost me completely when I saw explosive red barrels.

Just a week after America's Army 3 launches. I just wish the ArmA series was a bit more approachable for newbs with the attention span of a fruit fly like myself.

If it is like ArmA you just have to hold/double tap alt and it will let you move your head. What annoyed me in the first was if you used trackIR you could move your head independently with sights up but the same wasn't true for the other method for some reason.
