Arsenal FC

Utter bollocks. People shouldn't be refined to supporting a football club just because of where you grew up, there are no rules to say thats the case. It should be about what team you enjoy watching and what teams ideals and how they approach the game appeals to you the most.

For instance I loved Arsenal's slick pass and move style right up through the middle, and Wenger's approach to building up new players, and the way he didn't indulge in the pathetic mind games that managers like Fergie and Mourinho used to, and still do.

Christ I met loads of Irish people while at uni last year, all of them huge supporters of Man Utd, are they all in the wrong? Not to mention their massive following in places like Japan, and the same goes for all major clubs around the world. People can choose to support whoever the hell they like. Christ you should be grateful there are more supporters like me, when you see the utterly ridiculous booing from Arsenal 'faithfuls' at the Emirates during rubbish games, or people saying that Wenger has finally lost it and should pack his bags. I have never doubted Wenger for one second, or doubted the ability of Arsenal. If anything I'm probably more faithful than a lot of the Londoners that attend those games.

Anyone who supports the munes is in the wrong.

Whos that dying on the runway?
Whos that dying in the snow?
Its Matt Busby and the boys,
Making all the ****ing noise,
'Cos they couldn't get thier aeroplane to go!

Well yeh, the one thing that annoys me the most about Utd is their ****ing supporters. Was just using as an example lol.

ur from manchester. u had the choice of two massive clubs with long traditions and community roots. yet you went for arsenal.

i dont blame you entirely. you're probably not from a traditional football background.

"i like the style"

what a self-regarding reason to support a club.

sports clubs are part of a comm-u-nar-ty.

if you want to truly get football - you should understand this first and foremostly.

what lol'd me the most was when you said that its ok, cos you're sticking it out and still supporting arsenal now that they're not the best.

lol, we're in the top 4 of the football pyramid, semi finalists in the CL! hardly "tough times" is it.

No
Man utd FTW

I don't really like football but they are my favorite team

The Arsenal starting 11 sure represent the community.

i like the way you qualified your statement. gg.

because our youth team is full of local kids. wilshere, emmanuel-thomas, simpson, gibbs

etc etc.

youth setups take a long time to build.

And don't peole say that the club is bigger than the player(s)? Of course they do.

although i will agree with you - compared to the days of the early 90s when you'd find the likes of steve bould / tony adams (people tell me) drinking in the local islington boozers with the fans, yes football has gone down a bad path. that is as a result of becoming more professional and more money orientated.

there and pros and cons to this, but the club remains part of the community.

quips vs reasoned arguments.

Urr no. My point was you were calling me a glory supporter, and I said I am still a loyal fan despite the fact that that haven't won anything for 4 seasons, I am not actively seeking glory teams in other words.

And no, in todays world the fans of clubs, as I have explained, are no longer just refined to communities, the larger clubs of the world have fans everywhere.

Football these days barely upholds anymore of its traditional routes, not just from fans from other cities supporting teams in other cities, but the fact that the game has become awash with money, players earning far too much and joining clubs purely because of the wages, managers squabbling at each other in the papers, players diving and performing ridiculous drama acts when fouled.

Regardless, its still a community, even if its involves supporters from everywhere, they are all still brought together by a common cause of supporting a particular team, saying it should only be certain people is very backwards thinking, I'm sure the clubs these days are delighted that they attract fans from all over, not just from fans in the clubs current vicinity. Its just a sport at the end of the day, I don't see why you or anyone else should have such a big problem with it.

ok well at least that's your home team. That's the most important thing.

i don't suppose you go to the games? you know cardiff city has some of the most violent fans in the country! and the owner, Sam Hammam, has a rep for being a bit of a hooligan himself!

No don't go to the games, we used to have really bad fans, fortunately over the past few years we have improved. Not perfect, but improved. Owner is now Peter Ridsdale, has been for a few years. The infamous ex-Leeds chief.

2 words, Michael Chopra.

:cheese:

Chops is awesome :D

god i hate football.
they trip up and theyre like OHGOD MY ARSE I CANT PLAY ANYMORE GIVE ME 100000 POUNDS OMG

Yeah - and its gone hand in hand as much with the globalisation of the sport as a whole as with the middle-classification of the domestic game. Its my opinion and I'll stick by it thanks. I know a lot of people feel the same way. This isn't about being some big happy global tent - if the owners want to chase supporters abroad to squeeze them for cash that's upto them. More fool them for not developing football traditions in their own countries. But for someone born n bred in Manc to support Arsenal - its a bit stranger.

Ridsdale...I feel for you :(

Not surprised to hear things have improved. Casual subculture originals must be in their 40s-50s now.

I know where you are coming from, and I will admit it does frustrate me sometimes that the team I support is in a city miles away from mine, but I will continue to support them regardless. Besides I plan to move down to London in near future I hope, because I'm bored of Manchester and I want to start attending games at the Emirates. Would technically make me more at home with the team.

Park, Park,
Wherever you may be
You eat dog in your home country
Could be worse
Could be scouse
Eating rats in a council house!

Some football chants are pure genius.

:p So now we just have to do your lot a favour right? Or would you prefer they have a long cup run! Any tips about who/what to watch out for from them?
They have one of the worst away records - 17 games winless away from home in the CL group stages. Just stick 2 goals past them at the Emirates and you've won.

All their players are mostly useless.
