Arsenal FC

Maybe you could link to something or give us some info so you can get more people interested possibly.

And if you tell me to google it I will murder you.

Its one of the biggest football teams in England (and thus the world). If you haven't heard of it I doubt you'd be interested in it. Probably more a more European / expat thing than an American thing. Apart from the few American weirdos who prefer football to American Sports! (tongue in cheek here)

Anyone whos not a mune is alright in my book.

Col U all the way

Why are you surprised? Native Manchesterers tend to hate Man U from my experience.

I don't think its a rule of thumb. And most of Manchester will support either City or Utd surely?

Anyway - any thoughts on the team for this season or how we may strengthen before the transfer window closes?

United fan here, Wenger probably wont but youll probably still do well, he is about the only other manager in the top four that i have any respect for.

Nothing like a bit of irrational tribalism to have some fun with. Otherwise we might end up like a sagacious, sensible, enlightened people like, um, I dunno...those Swedes maybe? :p

Go kick a ball into a net or something. I'm gonna check the rules, there's gotta be something about threads about organized sports in there...

Not I, despite being a Londoner. Villa fan.

I'm a West Brom fan. Boing boing baggies and all that!

Build a bonfire
Build a bonfire
put the Wolves on the top
put the Villa in the middle
and burn the f***ing lot!

Aww, I hope you guys get to play in the big boys' league again soon ;)

We'll be back up sooner than later don't you worry!

Hopefully Villa will be a bit more interesting than mid-table :p

Personally I'd like to see the folowing players come in

Hangeland ~8-9 million
Chamakh ~6 million

Then a first choice central midfielder to partner Cesc.

Looking at Veloso, but Vieira could also do a job for a year I think - bring some of that experience to the young players.

Have to say both Chelsea and Man U looked very strong in the Communarty Shield

I feel so lonely when it come to football. There are is only one other chelsea fan at my school.:(

Arsenal? In before Glenn.

(yiddo)
Yid army! Can't wait to see Arsenal this season with Man City to contend with for that 4th spot. They may not click this season but it won't be too long till they do.

Vieira is purely for leadership quality, his ability and form are long gone (the second he went Juve). So I hope you do get him again ;) I've not heard any pursuit of Veloso, but his price tag will probably be past what Wenger will pay.

Chamakh has one year left at Bordeaux, then he'll go Arsenal for free since he seems pretty interested. So you probably won't see him for another season.

But yeah...I know you've replaced Toure with Vermelaen. Adebayor was awful and I appreciate your youth policy is superior to any other team in the EPL but lets be honest, where are the 100 goals going to come from?

Bet you wish you bought Peter Crouch eh? (This happened while I was away on holiday and I couldn't call up Redknapp and tell him to stop being ridiculous :( )

I think his ability as a box-to-box dynamo, 60 game a season player has gone. I think he could certainly manage 30 games as a holding midifielder though.

True Re Veloso being pricey.

Chamakh deal still very finely balanced. I believe he wil come as Bordeaux want to:

a. Recoup at least something from their investment on him.
b. Don't want to get a rep as a club which screws over their players when bigger clubs come knocking.

Your name was in there for Huntelaar. Surprised you want for Crouch tbh considering how much money Levy's BOSS out there in the Carribean lieks to waste.

I like watching football but I feel no blood alliegance to Brighton & Hove FC. I need to just choose a team. I'm thinking Tottenham Hotspur because I've always liked their name.

I may be from Manchester but I hate united with a passion, its eased slightly since that absolute wanker Ronaldo left (I swear the mere sight of him and just wanted to kill him everytime) and Owen making there way into the team. City I'm kind of neutral with it makes me laugh how they think they can spend loads of money and think it will win them trophies, you can't buy a good team, period. The fact that Celtic wolloped them pre-season is enough evidence of that.

I only really got into football about 5-6 years ago, I remember sitting down and trying to find a team to support, and it was the time of Arsenal's 03-04 season where they were walking over everyone and Henry, Bergkamp, Veira, Pires, Lyjumberg (still to this day cant spell his name) were all in their prime, and I loved watching their football so I chose them to support. Naturally at the time I was branded a glory supporter, but really it was because out of all the teams I watched, I enjoyed their football the most, and I also declared that they won't be winning things all the time, and even then I will still support them. After they won the FA cup in 05 (which was a sweeeeet occasion) we haven't won a thing, but I am still a loyal supporter.

And yeh I would love to see Veira back in midfield, that is the main thing we are lacking at the moment, a proper leader, although Arshavin is clearly leading by example. Adebayor scored us goals but there was no question about his work-rate, I think it was a great move for Eduardo to shine, and the fact that Rosicky (who we have missed dearly) is back in the squad I think we can finally start making challenges to the top spots. I can't see us winning anything major for a while though but its the premiership, anything can happen which is why its the best league in the world :D

Been supporting United since I was a wee lad, you can put that down to my Welsh patriotism and Giggsy :D

Cardiff City are becoming my main team now, really looking forward to this new season, 4-0 win at home to Scunnythorpe :D As long we keep Ledley and McCormack and try to get a couple others we will be sorted :D

is Chamakh(sp?) any good? Never heard of him before. *goes to look on youtube.

Arsenal's young players will develop more this season I think. Wilshere, Ramsey, Gibbs etc. They are without doubt the most watchable team in the PL.

Can't wait for the new season.

Also o/t, but did anyone see that the Espanyol captain died of heart failure? Lame.

Don't you go forgetting that Ramsey is a Cardiff lad at heart ;)

how can you change team? you pick one, preferrably your home team, and stick with it.

Chamakh is 6'2" - good in the air but very technical along with it - compared to that beanpole Adebayor always falling over. His strike rate isn't anything to write home about, but I trust Wenger's judgement in new signings so we'll see. We certainl,y need a target man as I think Bendtner still has to develop more before becoming first team.

Wilshere is looking awesome!

Rangers fan here. You should be happy that we let you win your Emirates cup...

:p So now we just have to do your lot a favour right? Or would you prefer they have a long cup run! Any tips about who/what to watch out for from them?

Simply because Cardiff are more important to me now that I understand football as a whole more :)

ok well at least that's your home team. That's the most important thing.

i don't suppose you go to the games? you know cardiff city has some of the most violent fans in the country! and the owner, Sam Hammam, has a rep for being a bit of a hooligan himself!

nah, but ur still a glory supporter. manc gooner, lol.

I have friends here that have supported Liverpool and Chelsea since they were very young, and they are mancs through and through.

And you still haven't explained how I am a glory supporter.

okay middle class kid here i go:

A Football Club is part of a community of people. A Football Club is not a "brand". You are part of a community, you support the club which is part of that community.

Its really is that simple. I know lot of people at the Emirates who have had enough of all the prawn sandwich brigade we've had come on board since the Wnger era. Its one of the reasons, and yes I acknowledge it, that the atmosphere is rubbish there.
