Atheist adverts declaring "there's probably no God" could be placed on buses across the country after a fundraising drive made five times the target amount in just one day

lol

it's a good thing that atheism is becoming an accepted (non) "belief". but when it comes to organizing beliefs, things might go out of hand. let's wait and see what will become of this.

a good thing is that they are not advertising some product or some sort of service that might get people to spend money, it's currently still based on donations and it should stay that way.

So, when's Richard Dawkins crowned the Pope of Atheism?

The facts of science and logic ought to be spread through academia, not through campaigning and adverts. The existence or non-existence of God is still left up to the individual, and spirituality is not a forbidden crime for one who also believes in the sciences of the physical universe.

Shhhh! This is HalfLife2.net, you want to be disemboweled or what?

Are atheists allowed to believe in the Great Old Ones?

Organized atheism is stupid and hypocritical.

Agreed. I think it's just as ridiculous as people trying to spread the belief that there is a god.

Believe in your god or refuse to believe in a god. Just... keep it to yourself.

If atheistic signs were put on buses in America, they and all the passengers riding them would get flipped and burned.

But it is an archaic irrationality that I have every right to ridicule.

Problem is that there is a lot of people who don't keep their faith for themselves. They want to force their religious beliefs to others.

To be serious for a second, I don't see how this constitutes organized atheism, at least in the same vein as most organized religion.

Some people put an ad on a bus. That's not really the same as a codified set of beliefs and behavior.

So the way to fix that is to do the same thing?

This bus ad totally forces people to drop their faith.

Next thing you know there won't be a Church of England. The royal family will dissolve and Britain will descend into mob rule.

Seems a waste of time anyway, the UK is overly secular in all but monarchichal ritualistic ways that have no real effect on governance, and the British public are overwhelmingly non-subscribers to any organized faith.

While atheists want to force their non-belief on everyone.

It's another non-religious non-war, if you ask me.

The whole idea of swaying people's opinion about God through adverts is ludicrous. People ought to find their own answer by themselves by looking into the sciences of the natural universe.

The whole thing about atheism is that it's not a code of beliefs. There is only one requirement to be an atheist: have zero belief in God. It's like saying, "Hey, I'm not a mechanic." The only thing you can assume about that person is that they're not a mechanic. Maybe they're a chemist or a librarian or a waiter. Being an atheist denotes nothing about your other views on politics, spirituality, health, or science.

So while the whole idea of selling atheism may be a legitimate business model, it is certainly not a methodology that should be adopted to make the average population smarter. It is just as stupid and annoying as going door to door selling Jesus Christ.

I'm all for this. Obviously it wont really have an impact on people's beliefs, but at least it will get the topic out there for discussion and observation and make it less taboo to be an atheist, making it less likely that people will have knee-jerk hateful reactions to atheists.

It's as simple as using common sense; no proof of either extreme, no conclusion.

There are degrees of likeliness that humanity ought to accept as definitive. So while there is, ultimately, no absolute proof of truth, there are probable answers.

I'm interested to see what, if any, effect this has.

"Stunts like this demonstrate how militant atheists are often great adverts for Christianity."

Now there are plans to get the message – "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life" – put on buses across Britain as well as on Tube trains in the capital.
lol. With such a hate filled message people will be running to Christianity in no time!

Agnostics don't give a damn either way. We simply stay on the side and laugh at atheists and theists throwing shit at each other.

Enjoy throwing shit at yourself.

THE QUESTION OF BELIEF IS BINARY
1. Theist- Holds a positive belief in a diety
2. Atheist- Does not

THE QUESTION OF KNOWLEDGE IS ALSO BINARY
1. Gnostic- Knows that there is/is not a god.
2. Agnostic- Does not know, or does not believe it is possible to know, if there is a god or gods.

AGNOSTICISM COMES IN MULTIPLE LEVELS
1. Weak Agnostic- Lacks knowledge of a god.
2. Strong Agnostic- Believes that it is impossible to know whether or not there is a god.

ATHEISM AND AGNOSTICISM ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE
1. Knowledge and belief are independent.

THEREFORE YOU HAVE, WITH THESE TWO VARIABLES, THESE COMBINATIONS
1. Weak Agnostic Atheist- Lacks knowledge and belief in a god.
2. Strong Agnostic Atheist- Believes it is impossible to know there is a god, and lacks belief in that god.
3. Gnostic Atheist- Knows that there is no god and does not believe.
4. Weak Agnostic Theist- Lacks knowledge of a god, yet believes in a god on faith, without evidence.
5. Strong Agnostic Theist- Believes it is impossible to know whether or not there is a god, and believes that this god exists.
6. Gnostic Theist- Knows there is a god and believes.
7. Denying Atheist- Knows there is a god, yet does not believe.
8. Denying Theist- Knows there is no god, yet believes.

Or how about this, if you're agnostic about a christian/Muslim whatever god, you might as well
be agnostic to the idea that magical pink pony's created everything, or smelly smurfs. That
hamsters power a car engine, that small people live inside your brain or whatever.

No one can be hundred percent sure that, that shit does not exist, just like we can't be sure
that a god does not exist. But giving equal credence to the existence of god as the lack of
existence, as most people who call themselves agnostics do, is not smart. It's just shows you
haven't really thought about it, and it's just plain silly to somehow think you're in any way
intellectually above atheist.

Bit of an assumption there.

I wonder who it is who hasn't really thought about it?

The proper response would have been:

Eejit said:
Wow gray fox you smart devil you, you have really outdone yourself.
Thank god we have you here.

Now repent and pray to Solaris to forgive your sins.

Yay, somebody used my post on Atheisim vs. Agnosticism. aka. They are not mutually exclusive, since most atheists are also agnostics and vice versa.

I'm bumping this thread for a pun I just came across:

"Atheism is a non-prophet organization."

Yay me.

He was addressing god. Are you god?
