Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 9800 pro 256
Once I installed the card I did a full reinstall of windows XP,
to make sure no residual Nvidia junk was messing with my
new ATI card.
But then I realised that my motherboard was an
Nforce 2 and I am using the latest Nvidia drivers for it.
Now my problem is. Upon starting up my comp, I get what looks like Atari 2600 grafix all over my screen, but I can still see whats under garbage.
System boots fine and goes to windows fine (but crap all over screen)
I restart and the problem fixes itself!

Dose anyone know of or are experiencing this problem?
Is this a confliction between the ATI & Nvidia Hardware.??

Any help would be greatly apreciated!!!!!!:cheese:
Oh sorry If this wqs posted by anyone else but I couldent find it anyware

This is my system specs
Amd 2800+
Msi Nforce 2 mobo (latest dvr)
1gig DDR 400
Radeon 9800 pro (cat 3.7)
60gig hdd
500 watt pwr suply
Win xp SP1
Audigy 1
Thanks again and soz for the long winded post

make sure u have the latest ati drivers, dx9, and windows updates. the check your properties and see if it rercognizes the vid card. then try to change desktop again.

and i dont think its a nvidia/ati problem i have a asus nforce2 mobo with ati 9800 pro.

Mmmm All the latset drivers are on my system (for everything)

The system recognises the card and I have no problems playing
any games, Just the odd artifacting upon starting up my sys.
As for the ATI and Nvidia confliction theory
I think your right and Im Parranoid hehe :bounce:

Nforce 2 and all its spawns are the best ATI platforms there is (ironic aint it? :)).

But to me this sounds like a hardware problem... Maybe a faulty gcard.
Ask on the rage3d.com forum, maybe they can help you.

AMD + ATI + nForce 2 is the best combo imho

I use it at home and i dont have any probs (and i build alot of combos like that and no probs)

Try to reinstall the drivers in safe mode( make sure to uninstall the drivers you got before)

WinXP tries to install some shitty drivers when you start it with a new card, if you do like this, windows dont install those shitty drivers and you get a clean install.

Thanks so much for the info guys!!!!! I realy apreciate your Help

And Thanks also for geting rid of my conspiricy theory about the Nforce
Mobo.
Im gona try all the advice you have given me and If all
else fails I will swap the card over for a new one:cool:

Just one more thing, Could it be my Vid BIOS? Just wondering cause
a m8 of mine had A similar problem with garbled junk on his
GF2 gts (old card I know)

Just a thought. Thanks again

It shouldnt be the bios. You arent meant to mess with it either. It could still be that of course... Warranty is void if you try to flash it. Or at least, I think so, I'm not that into details (all the cards I mess with are old anyway) .

OK Flashing it is out then definatly.
Its realy weird because when I first installed the card it was more
frequent, And It crashed also, and XP told me it was my Vid drivers
They were cat 3.6 Once I went to version 3.7 it ran fine until today And then POOOOF Did it again :(

Gona try and reinstall the drivers in safe mode, Any I dea how to restart
XP in safe mode?

Thanks again

press F5 (I think, or F8, cant ever remember) when starting*, you will have a few options... If safe mode isnt there, press once again F5 or F8 (read the lower part of the screen). You will have more options then. I dont use it that much, I dont remember which is where :)

*BEFORE the winXP loading screen, just after the boot sequence.

Thanks M8 For all your help!

Im gona beat this Bitch, I must have a stable system before HL2 Ships:cheese:

I have a 9700 Pro on an Asus A7N8X mobo and I too had this problem. My card is a Sapphire and there is a huge post about artifact problems.

Do you get graphic problems even befor Windows loads during the black "DOS" loadup screens? I would get little squares all over the screen. then when the "Welcome" screen came up sometimes the artifacts would disappear and sometimes they wouldn't.

I discovered that I had 2 sticks of bad Crucial RAM. Once I got my replacement RAM the problem disappeared. However, at the same time I found some tips on the Sapphire thread and made 2 changes to my BIOS. One change was changing the AGP Aperture from 64 to 128. I cannot remember offhand what the second change was but I'll check my notes tonight and let you know.

So I'm not sure exactly whether in my case the RAM was causing the problem or the BIOS settings made my video card happier. BTW I had the problem with two different mobo's so I know it was not the nforce2's fault.

Hope this helps, Fritz

Video Ram Cachable -> Enabled

Another suggestion, which I have not done, was to set
Video BIOS Shadow -> Enabled
